Nan Xianyi shook his head helplessly and smiled. He stepped forward to stop her, taking the books from her hands.
"The fairy has already broken my master's rules by bringing me food, so let me handle these books," he said gently. "Besides, the fairy must be tired after staying up all night. It's better to go back and rest."
Nan Xianyi's tone was unusually gentle, almost entrancing Yaoxi.
Rarely had he shown such tenderness towards himself, so naturally, she wouldn't overstep her bounds. Following his words, she left.
Before leaving, she reminded him, "The food will get cold. Eat the meal now and tidy up later."
"Got it," he replied.
Hearing his response, a smile unconsciously spread across her face, and she left contentedly.
Among the scattered books, his eyes inadvertently swept over two characters on a parchment scroll nearby: "Leaving State."
Nan Xianyi absentmindedly opened the other half of the scroll, his pupils contracting in shock as he stared blankly at the words...
With a loud bang, the white jade stone house instantly exploded, scattering debris all around. The white-clad celestial attendants rushed over to the sound, furrowing their brows as they inspected the scene closely.
As the dust settled, amidst the ruins stood a slender figure. The wind tousled his white short shirt, and his disheveled hair danced in the breeze.
He tried to move forward but inadvertently fell to his knees.
"Cough," sharp stones pierced his flesh, drawing out crimson blood.
Meanwhile, on the other side, equally crimson droplets fell.
Nan Xianyi wiped the blood from his lips, trembling as he stood up.
Lowering his gaze, he stared intently at the white armguards now stained red with blood, his pale lips quivering slightly.
"Wait for me! I'm coming to find you!"
As if unaware that his legs were now a blur of blood and flesh, he only knew to keep moving forward, his eyes fixed on the only passage out of Fusang.
"Bold! Nan Xianyi, are you planning to rebel? How dare you destroy the Xumo Chamber! Quickly come with me to see the Emperor for punishment!"
Withdrawing his gaze from afar, Nan Xianyi glanced at the Fusang celestial attendants surrounding him, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"I just want to leave here, that's all," his voice was low and hoarse.
Ignoring the attendants' attempts to stop him, he continued to walk forward.
A golden light flashed in the sky, and Nan Xianyi's expression changed slightly as he halted his steps.
"Where are you trying to go now?"
The Lingxuan Emperor's face was stern.
Nan Xianyi knew his master would come. He wasn't surprised, considering the commotion he caused just now. Without anyone saying a word, anyone would come to check on the situation, especially since it happened in his own house.
In the past, he would have shamelessly begged his master to spare him this time, promising never to offend again.
But this time was different. He had made up his mind to leave. He couldn't let her wait any longer, and he couldn't break his promise.
Without much ado, Nan Xianyi limped to the Lingxuan Emperor's side, raised the hem of his robe, and knelt down abruptly.
"Thud!" The sound of bone meeting the ground was crisp and loud, echoing as if it could be heard ten meters away. The surroundings fell silent instantly.
"Master, she's waiting for me. I have to go find her!"
Seeing the Lingxuan Emperor's silence, Nan Xianyi continued, "Master, please let me go this time! When I come back, you can punish me however you want, even if it means enduring the Thunderfire Torture for another five years! I won't complain!"
Even if he had to risk his life, he would never complain! He was afraid that the person in his heart would cry again because of this.
