Chapter 12
The woman scoffed. "So you think I'd betray my kind for you? You vampires are always proud and pompous, thinking you can control us. But we have a plan… to wipe you all from existence."
Lucas' eyes darkened as he glared at the young mermaid.
"Are you threatening me?"
"You see," she clicked her tongue. "We've been watching your kind for a long time. We know of your weakness and we know when to strike."
His eyes narrowed at her. "You are nothing but food to me."
She laughed. "You are no match for my kind, Lucas. Soon you will be nothing but distant memories in our heads."
Lucas' face twisted in anger, his fangs bared. "You dare to threaten me? I will show you the true meaning of power!" He lunged at her, but she was too quick, dodging his attack with ease.
The mermaid's laughter echoed through the cavern, taunting Lucas, fueling his rage. He snarled, his eyes blazing with fury, as he realized she was not an ordinary mermaid. She was a warrior, a leader, and a force to be reckoned with.
His eyes blacked out like coal, and he grabbed her neck. He leaned forward, sinking his fangs into her skin to drain her of her blood. Her blood flowed into his mouth, allowing him to enjoy the taste before gulping it down. She hissed, feeling her body go limp in his grasp.
For some odd reason, the taste of her blood made him remember Anastasia. He frowned slightly, wondering why her blood tasted just like Anastasia's. Lucas' bloodlust drove him to drain her of all her blood. He released his grip on her neck, and she collapsed back into the chair. She was dead.
He ran his tongue across his lip before turning to the man. "Dispose of the body," he said. The man bowed his head. Lucas stepped out of the house, feeling full of the mermaid's blood. He entered the carriage, and the coachman took him elsewhere.
Emerging from the carriage, he looked ahead at the laboratory where George and his wife lived with their five-year-old son.
He walked inside to see George tutoring his son, Malakai, about something in the lab.
"George," he spoke up. George turned around and, upon seeing Lucas, bowed his head. "Ah, Lucas what brings you here."
His eyes narrowed to the clear glass containing a limp body, with chemicals filled to the brim.
"What is this?" Lucas asked. "The mermaid came in last week. I bought her from a merchant," George replied.
"Hmm," Lucas nodded his head. "Why is it in there?"
"Ah, Prince Lucas, I've been studying mermaids recently," George said. Lucas' eyes scanned the room to see different objects and artifacts locked in a transparent box.
"Mermaid?" Lucas asked. "I had a recent encounter with one a while ago. What do you know about them?"
"I believe their blood is the key to unlocking new supernatural powers for us, vampires," George muttered. Lucas raised a brow. Powers? How come? He nodded his head as he continued to listen. George walked to one of the cupboards and pulled out a journal.
"I have been doing a lot of research recently. I think mermaid blood contains a unique property that could make us even more powerful."
"And how would you do that when it is very rare to catch a mermaid?" Lucas asked. "That wouldn't be a problem,"
George said. "I have been working with other men to create weapons that could trap a mermaid. For example, this wire net is infused with chemicals that could weaken them down without putting up a fight." Lucas reached out to touch the wire net and nodded his head. "What progress have you made so far in this?"
"Lucas, to be honest, the mermaids are getting wise every day, and they know of our lust for them. But I believe that with my help, if we work together, I could succeed in this."
"I will think about it before giving my response to you," he said. Taking a step closer to the glass, he stared at the mermaid who was floating in the chemical. The scales on her skin were slowly pulling out. There were drips connected to every part of her body to draw out blood.
"Is it alive?" He turned to George.
"Neither dead nor alive," George responded.
On the other side of the Kingdom, Anastasia walked towards the door. Running her hands around the knob again, she opened the door and to her surprise, the door was not locked.
Her eyes widened. Did Maggie forget to lock the door before leaving? She turned around, her eyes lingering in the room for a moment, before returning her gaze back to the door. She looked down, feeling her heart sink as she realised the stairs were very long and she would have a hard time going down.
She took a deep breath, determined to escape from the tower. As Anastasia took one step down, she felt her heart racing with fear. A shiver ran down her back as she took another step.
Just as she heard the sound of footsteps approaching, she turned around in attempt to run back. However, she felt strong arms around her, pinning her to the wall. Anastasia eyes widened with shock when her eyes landed on him. How was he so fast?
Ohh…. She bit her inner cheek, recalling that Cassius was a vampire, hence he has speed.
Anastasia gulped when she saw his fangs protruding out. She blinked her eyes, feeling scared. She didn't think she would get caught so easily. She felt his warm breath falling on her face.
He leaned closer, his eyes blacking out. "You really think you would be able to escape from me?"
