Chapter 9

Jennifer couldn't understand why her mother-in-law, whom she had just met, would insult her like this. Their marriage was forced, and even though her mother had taken their money, it was still their own choice to give it. What did it have to do with being a seductress? The drops of alcohol on her face chilled Jennifer's heart, no, it was anger.

She stood up, glaring angrily at Mrs. Sophia, but before she could speak, Mr. William slammed the table and stood up. "Have you caused enough trouble?" It was clear that he was addressing Mrs. Sophia.

Mrs. Sophia naturally didn't back down either. She glanced at Jennifer, then fixed her angry gaze on Mr. William. "Trouble? You should have known what my reaction would be when you let this girl into our house! Just because of a few words from her mother, you went and got a marriage certificate with her mother. Have you ever considered how my son and I feel?!"

Mrs. Sophia's words sounded like there was unspeakable bitterness behind them, especially when Jennifer heard that her mother and Mr. William went secretly, she felt even more unable to hold her head up, and she felt that there was something suspicious going on. And Mrs. Sophia's jealousy made Jennifer even more panicked.

Yes, she was afraid that there was something uglier going on. Her face turned pale and then green. "Please do not insult my mother!" Even if her mother really had some faults, she was still her mother. How could anyone humiliate her like this?

Mrs. Sophia shouted loudly, "I'm insulting her? Hmph! Why don't you ask if your mother is that kind of person!"

"You agreed to let Jennifer in the end, didn't you? Why are you changing your mind now?" Mr. William's forehead, full of wrinkles, appeared even more lined due to anger. "How many times do I have to tell you before you stop? Can't you calm down for a moment with our child here?"

Apologizing to Jennifer, he said, "Scarlett, take Mrs. Xiaofu to the villa where the young master lives. She will live there from now on. Take good care of her."

"Take care of her? Does she still need to be taken care of? She's nothing but a lowly woman!" Mrs. Sophia spat at Jennifer, disdainfully saying, "If you have the ability to take so much money from our family, then take good care of my son. If my son finds something unsatisfactory, be careful with your skin. The Anderson family's rules are not something ordinary people can handle! If you can't take it, then leave quickly, so I don't have to look at you and feel annoyed!"

Jennifer felt that she had no dignity left. She wanted to say, 'Fine, I'll leave. Do you think I want to stay here and endure your insults?' But thinking of her mother's threatening words, if her mother said it, she would definitely do it. She would endure, no matter how much suffering she had to bear in the future.

"Jennifer, you should go downstairs first. Your mother-in-law must have taken the wrong medicine today. Don't argue with her." Mr. William's kind face was Jennifer's only comfort at the moment. She wanted to ask why such a good man had to marry such a fierce woman?

She wanted to return a comforting smile, but she couldn't force herself. She could only say softly, "I understand." After speaking, she automatically left the hall. The air outside was a thousand times better than inside.

She heard the sound of arguing coming from the hall again. It seemed that the two elders were about to start another battle. Glancing at Scarlett, who was walking ahead of her with an unchanged expression, Jennifer guessed that this was probably the norm for the Anderson family.
