Is That Slime?!

[ You sounded a bit cool and cringe right now. ] Elfie commented.

'Can't you help me somehow?'

[ I think I can. I just found out that I can give you quests like an actual system. Here is one quest for you. ] 

All of a sudden, words appeared in front of my face. Elfie began to recite the words inside my head.

[ A new system quest has been assigned! ]

Quest: Redrum No Murder!

Description: Prevent Redrum from murdering you. 

Time limit: Quest will end if you die.

Rewards: More knowledge about the current world.

Failure: You die!

Elfie seemed to possess the worst timings to do anything good. Lex didn't even have the time to read the contents of the quest properly.

Redrum stepped foot on the accelerator, increasing the speed of the car. Lex realized that if he didn't act quickly, his chances of survival were low.

'Here goes whatever that goes.' 

Chanting his life motto, Lex lurched forward and grabbed Redrum's throat. Tightening his grip, Lex tried to make the car swerve.

"You said some pretty bold words right there. Honestly, I was surprised to hear you say such things." Redrum smiled.

He made no effort to free himself from Lex's grip. Redrum's dropped his hands from the steering wheel. Somehow, the car continued to drive on its own.

"What the…"

Lex felt the skin below his hands turn gooey. A shocked expression appeared on his face when he saw what was happening.

"Is that slime?!"

In front of his eyes, Lex saw Redrum's body change into black slime. The slime retained Redrum's figure but soon became more liquid.

Slithering over the seat, the slime made its way to the backseat and settled beside Lex. Its shape changed into Redrum's figure again.

A few seconds later, Redrum materialized beside Lex.

"Even if you chose the money, I would have killed you. You don't seem to possess an ability so personally, you are doomed." Redrum grinned.

Without thinking twice, Lex kicked his soon-to-be murderer. Unfortunately, Redrum converted his body into slime again, managing to dodge the kick.

"Another murder added to my list!"

The slime changed into two guns, both of which were pointed in Lex's direction. The latter retracted his leg and stared at the two guns.

'I don't think I can fight against that. Elfie, can you teleport us to another dimension?'

[ I am sorry but that was a one-time deal. I don't have enough energy to do that. ]

'So this is the end of the line for me?'

[ Not just for you but for me as well. I am connected with your soul so if you die, I die. Damn it, you didn't even get to embrace a woman! ]

'Shouldn't I be the one feeling sad about that…'

[ You should but I am feeling sad too. You won't understand. ]

'I don't think I want to understand.'

With a sigh, Lex decided to do something one last time. He was not the type to give up easily even if he came face to face with a tough situation.

Lex placed his hands on the door behind him. Using the doors as support, he launched himself towards the gun.

He kicked them with all his power, hoping to change their direction. Unfortunately, his legs passed right through the slime.

"Fu…" A sigh escaped Lex's lips as his body slumped down on the seat of the car. He prepared himself for his death and closed his eyes.

Huh?

Lex didn't feel the impact of a bullet hitting his body. He opened his eyes and was stunned to see Redrum's paralyzed body floating a couple of inches above the car's seat

Sparks of electricity surrounded his body, slowly spreading towards the rest of the car. The car began to slow down and move towards the roadside.

Lex looked outside to see that they were driving through an empty construction area.

'Elfie, did you do something?'

[ I wish I could take the credit for it but nope, I am not responsible for this. ] 

Sparks of electricity soon reached the front of the car and it came to a sudden halt. 

Lex was bewildered by this scene. As he sat up, the doors of the car flew open. 

"I didn't expect you to refuse that offer." A sweet voice entered Lex's voice, a voice that he had heard recently.

Rio was standing outside the car, a smile visible on her cute face. She put her hands below her chest and stared at Lex with an interested gaze.

"Come out of the car because I think it's going to explode pretty soon," Rio noted while glancing at the sparks inside the car.

Lex nodded and stepped out of the car. Rio immediately stepped forward, staring into Lex's eyes. Her face was so close that he felt her breath touch his face.

But before she could say anything, a scoff entered the duo's ears.

"I never expected to see you here, Rio. Did you forget the agreement you made?" Redrum chuckled.

He currently stood in his normal form and was no longer paralyzed.

"You know it as well as I do. I am allowed to do this." Rio replied in a cold tone. All the sweetness in her tone vanished as she stepped away from Lex. 

Cracking her knuckles, a grin devoid of any humor appeared on Rio's face. Seeing her grin, Lex realized that Rio could look threatening.

[ I mean, see her features. Silver hair, ocean blue eyes, smooth white skin, and a good figure. She basically has the cold beauty figure from Chinese novels. The only thing those novels taught was the fact that cold beauties were good at looking threatening. ]

'Agreed. Her glare is pretty powerful.'

"Even though Mister Allen told me to let you stay alive, I think he would understand the current situation," Redrum stated.

"We will see who kills who." 

"You have grown weaker while staying inside that house. The old Rio would have killed me inside the car."

"The old Rio didn't know how to obtain revenge. Enough talking."

"Agreed."

Lex watched this tense with full attention. There was a chance that Redrum could pull a dirty move and he needed to stay attentive.

"This is how we end this!" Redrum shouted.

In the blink of an eye, both Rio and Redrum shot forward, ready to kill each other. 

*ZZZ!*

A sizzling sound spread throughout the area, shocking both Lex and Elfie.

"So much for talking big."
