The Unexpected

Eve and Anna were out enjoying a Saturday afternoon at their favorite coffee shop. Eve was dressed in a casual yet chic ensemble—a white shirt and blue jeans, paired with sneakers. Her hair was pulled back into a sleek ponytail, and she wore minimal makeup. Anna, on the other hand, sported a light pink summer dress with white sandals, her long hair flowing freely down her back.

They were seated at a corner table, sipping on their lattes and chatting about their week. The sun streamed through the large windows, casting a warm glow over the cozy interior.

"So, how's work been?" Anna asked, stirring her latte.

Eve sighed, leaning back in her chair. "It's been busy but rewarding. I'm getting the hang of things, but sometimes it feels overwhelming."

Anna smiled sympathetically. "You're doing great, Eve. Just don't forget to take care of yourself."

Eve was about to respond when her phone buzzed on the table. She glanced at the screen and saw Alex's name. Her heart skipped a beat. "It's Alex," she said, her voice tinged with surprise.

Anna's eyes widened with excitement. "Well, don't just sit there! Answer it!"

Eve hesitated for a moment before picking up the call. "Hello?"

"Hey, Eve. It's Alex. I was wondering if we could meet up? There's something I need to talk to you about," Alex's voice came through, sounding unusually earnest.

Eve glanced at Anna, who was practically bouncing in her seat. "Um, sure. When and where?"

"How about this evening at the Blue Bistro? Around 7 PM?" Alex suggested.

"Alright, I'll be there," Eve agreed, still feeling a bit skeptical.

After hanging up, she turned to Anna, who was grinning from ear to ear. "What's got you so excited?"

Anna leaned forward, her eyes sparkling. "It's obvious, Eve! He's totally into you."

Eve laughed, shaking her head. "There's nothing going on between us. He probably just wants to discuss work or something."

Anna gave her a knowing look. "Just wait and see. You never know what might happen."

Later that evening, Eve found herself standing outside the Blue Bistro, a trendy restaurant known for its cozy ambiance and excellent cuisine. She was dressed in a simple yet elegant black dress that hugged her figure perfectly, paired with red heels that added a pop of color to her outfit. Her hair was styled in loose waves, and she wore a touch of red lipstick to complete the look.

As she walked into the restaurant, she spotted Alex sitting at a table near the window. He looked dashing in a navy blue suit, his dark hair neatly styled and his expression warm as he stood to greet her.

"Eve, you look stunning," he said, a genuine smile lighting up his face.

"Thank you, Alex. You clean up pretty well yourself," she replied with a smile.

They sat down, and after ordering their drinks, Alex leaned forward, his demeanor more serious. "Eve, I wanted to apologize for how things have been lately. I know you've been through a lot, and I appreciate all the hard work you've put in."

Eve nodded, feeling a mix of emotions. "Thank you, Alex. It's been a tough transition, but I'm managing."

Alex took a deep breath, looking slightly nervous. "There's something else I need to tell you. My father has been pressuring me about my personal life, and I kind of told him that we were... seeing each other."

Eve was still processing Alex's words, her emotions swirling as she tried to make sense of everything. The cozy ambiance of the Blue Bistro now felt suffocating. Her face flushed with anger, she pulled her hand away from his grasp.

"I don't understand, is this a joke or something?" Eve's voice trembled with frustration.

Alex's face fell, his expression a mix of guilt and desperation. "Eve, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put you in this position. I've been under a lot of pressure from my family. I wasn't thinking"

Eve stood up abruptly, her chair scraping against the floor. Her black dress swayed as she grabbed her purse. "I find it insulting. You didn't even think about how this would affect me."

Alex stood up too, his eyes wide with concern. "Eve, please. I didn't mean any harm. I've just been so pressured by my father about finding a bride. I thought—"

She cut him off, shaking her head. "I understand you're under pressure, but dragging me into this mess without my consent is not the way to handle it. What exactly do you take me for?"

Without another word, Eve turned and walked out of the restaurant, leaving Alex standing there, his face a picture of regret and frustration. The night air was cool as she stepped outside, her heels clicking against the pavement as she hurried away from the Blue Bistro.

The next morning, Eve arrived at work, still seething from the previous night. She wore a fitted gray pencil skirt and a white blouse, her hair pulled back into a neat bun. Her expression was stern as she navigated through her tasks, trying to focus on anything but Alex.

As she was engrossed in her work, her phone buzzed with a message. It was from Alex, asking if they could talk. She ignored it, burying herself deeper into her work.

At lunch, Anna appeared at her office door, dressed in a floral blouse and dark jeans, her hair in loose waves. "Hey, you up for lunch?" she asked, her tone light but her eyes filled with concern.

Eve sighed, putting down her pen. "I suppose a break wouldn't hurt."

They went to a nearby café, sitting at a small table by the window. As they ordered, Anna looked at Eve with a knowing expression. "So, what happened last night?"

Eve recounted the dinner, her voice filled with frustration and hurt. "I can't believe he lied. He didn't even think about how it would affect me. What am I meant to tell Robert now?"

Anna nodded, her expression sympathetic. "I get why you're upset. That was a big thing to lie about."

Eve sighed, stirring her coffee absentmindedly. "I don't know what to do, Anna."

Anna reached across the table, squeezing Eve's hand. "Take your time to figure things out. If Alex truly cares, he'll find a way to make it right."

Alex left work early, his mind still reeling from the confrontation with Eve. He couldn't concentrate on anything, so he decided to call his friends, Mike, Dan, and Luke, and head to the bar.

When his friends arrived, they immediately noticed the half-empty glass of whiskey in front of Alex. Mike smirked as he sat down. "Drinking this early, huh? Must be serious."

Dan clapped Alex on the back. "What's up, man? You look like you've had a rough day."

Alex explained the situation, detailing how he had lied to his father about being in a relationship with Eve and how she had reacted. His friends listened intently, exchanging glances.

Dan shook his head. "Man, that's rough. But you can't blame her for being pissed. You put her in a really awkward spot."

Luke nodded in agreement. "You should have talked to her first, Alex. This is a really messed up situation

Alex sighed, taking a sip of his drink. "I know, I know. But I don't know what to do. I thought I was solving the issue but instead I've made it worse"

Mike shrugged. "Maybe you should just be honest with her. Tell why you did it. She might not forgive you right away, but at least she'll understand."

Alex stared at his glass, feeling the weight of their words. "I hope you guys are right. I need to fix this."

Alex knew he had spun himself in a web. Either he told his father the truth, which he was sure he wouldn't end or he found a way to get Eve on his side but he couldn't see that happening.
