Everybody put on the same kind of gear that they had during the last mission except for this time I noticed that all the power stones and elemental rounds that they used were colored a dark purple which meant that it was all enhanced with lightning damage.
"I also have placed a total of four EMP grenades in each one of the backpacks so that we can short-circuit the purely robotic individuals that we will be going up against," Raven said as she handed everyone a specific backpack.
I looked into mine and it had slightly different items than last time. It had a pair of EMP grenades, there was also a set of electric traps, and finally, I saw two electrically charged power stones in the bag.
Before we all walked out of the ship, I saw that everyone else had on a set of matching armor that had a black rose symbol on the chest area.
"Where is my armor at?" I asked because I wanted to wear the same type of armor that they had since I was on the team officially.
"Danny, you have to earn this armor. we only give the armor to those who have survived at least one encounter against all of our five main enemies." William said as he laughed at me and flexed in his armor.
"If that is the way it happens then I will get to that armor sooner or later". I said as I looked at William and thought about how sad it was that he had to always try to one-up me.
"He is right though about that rule of ours. It only takes one mission against each of them and you have already finished the first one; so, do not worry the other four missions will be done before you know it" Raven said as she was loading her sniper rifle with the electrical rounds.
"We need to ensure that the scientist is somehow still in the world. While I doubt that the cyborgs have killed him; it is most likely that they have tortured him, or prepared to ship him off the world and treat him like a prisoner of war". Trent said to us all as he waved his hand for us to follow him while he was walking out of the ship.
I followed him out of the ship and noticed that he grabbed the tiny black box out of his pocket again. Then I saw him place it on top of the doorway into the ship. After he did that, he clicked it and two massive rotating turrets were generated from this single cube.
"Do not worry I have set it to only attack those who are either partially or purely mechanical. in the end, you don't have to worry since we are all organic the targeting system will not activate the auto fire function on us." Trent said as I looked at the turret with amazement at the fact that that kind of weapon could be in a simple small black cube. "I am truly amazed at the kinds of things that Raven has invented for us and that make our missions easier. He is an irreplaceable member of this team".
I then noticed that everyone had finally left the ship and was completely prepared for battle.
"Well, it looks like this forest world is going to be as boring as the last one". William said as out of the ship.
"William, you know that the most basic worlds could contain some ancient Osdronian ruins". Raven said in response to William's complaint.
"Raven, you know that they have not been seen for over 500 years. also, that their ruins are rarely ever found." Sid replied.
"All right everybody let's focus; the first thing that we will be doing is checking out the coordinates that we were provided with by a member of The House of Lupus. it is supposed to be inside of a mountain." Trent said in a bossy tone to all of us.
After he spoke everyone began to move in single file just like members of the military did when I was a child on the streets of my home world.
I followed their example and occasionally turned around to watch the area behind us as the last one of the lines.
While we walked down the hill where the ship was landed and deep into the forest, I could hear birds chirping and see bugs moving on the ground. This was an untainted forest world. If we did succeed in our mission, I might bring Nova here someday since we would enjoy the world more than the cyborgs ever would.
After walking for a short while I saw Trent make a hand sign that caused everyone else to stop moving. After he made the sign, he crouched down and began to whisper to us.
"It looks like we have stumbled on to the camp before we were able to reach our original destination.
Do not worry we will be going to the original coordinates after we clear this camp. I want the three of you to flank the right side of the camp and Danny and I will flank the left side". He said when he came close enough for everyone to hear him without letting the enemy know where we were.
As soon as he stopped talking I saw William, Sid, and Raven all move to the right and then out of my field of vision.
I then followed Trent around the enemy encampment. We made it to the side entrance while staying completely within the cover of the woods.
After I stopped moving, I noticed that the cyborgs were quite organized in their camp design. They had a total of four robot guards at the entrance. They also placed their banners on both sides of the entrance.
When I noticed that they also had a set of sentry turrets mounted on both sides of the entranceway; as well I knew that it was going to be a difficult challenge to try to get inside without tipping off the entire camp.
"All right how do you want to take out these cyborgs?" I asked him when I finished looking at the area in front of us.
"I want you to throw this EMP grenade. it will only last for a total of five minutes but, if you aim it appropriately then we should be able to dismantle all of the guards and disable the turrets long enough to get inside without raising suspicion." Trent whispered to me as he pulled a grenade out of his bag that had a massive black button on top and an energy core in the center that was colored a light purple.
When you handed me the EMP grenade I felt a rush of stress and pressure run across my entire body because if I failed this or did not throw it far enough, I could kill a member of this team and I would not be able to live with myself after receiving that kind of guilt.
"Danny relax and breathe. If you must; count to three before you throw it". Trump whispered to me as he looked at me and saw my expression of worry.
After he said that to me, I then clicked the EMP grenade which caused the entire grenade to turn purple, and started counting to myself. 1...2...3... and then I threw it and it landed right in the center of the gateway the area around the gate was enveloped in a burst of purple lightning which shortly faded away.
When the lightning faded away, I rushed out from behind the cover of the bush and swung my dual scythes at each of the cyborg's limbs so that they would stay dismantled after the EMP ran out.
Usually, the site of an EMP would cause the enemy to be aware of our presence but when I made my way to the gate, I noticed that all the robotic soldiers were all gone to the other side of the camp as if they rushed over there. I bet that Trent and I have the other members of our team to thank for that.
"Now that that is taken care of, we to find the captain of this camp. he will probably be in the largest tent of the camp".
"All right Trent I will search for the captain's tent". I told him as we both entered the cyborg encampment.
"Danny remembers you might be a healer but still you are only human so no heroics". Trent said to me while I was walking away.
I did not know why he was so worried about me doing something reckless and stupid because he should be more worried about someone as hot-headed as William doing something that he might regret.
While I was looking around for the captain's tent, I noticed that the cyborgs used robots for literally almost everything. I had to remain undetected by everyone while I was searching. There also was a landing pad by the largest tent that had a square vessel parked on it.
When I peeked into one of the tents that was beside the captain's tent, I was quite disgusted at what I saw.
I noticed that there were a lot of medical instruments as well as a few inhumane torture items on the wall to my left. Then I saw that there were a set of dead human bodies each on a separate table that was covered completely in blood.
To follow Trent's request to not do anything alone I chose to not physically go into the tent since the sound of me moving anything around might raise their awareness.
I then heard a curtain nearby moving which caused me to rush and hide behind the tent that I was on the outside of.
"I know that you humans are here. There is no point in hiding from me. Your presence is obvious to my robotic eye." a booming male voice said from the other side of the tent that I was leaning up against.
"Danny you can now come out" I heard Trent say.
I rose completely onto my feet and made my way around the tent and saw every member of my team with their weapons pointed at a tall and muscular cyborg who had a male human that had red hair and freckles across his face strangled by holding him by the neck.
"What do we do Trent?" I asked him with my melee weapons drawn ready to attack.
"Danny stop the life of this individual is very valuable to us so we do not want this cyborg captain to kill him.
"I will not allow you to leave; this man will be dead as soon as you flinch. Did you think that I was unaware of all the racket that you were making outside of my camp? If you do then you are proving the fact that your race seems to be the least intelligent out of the five dominant races in this galaxy" he said arrogantly at all of us as he began to walk towards his ship and kept the scientist in a chokehold.
When the cyborg captain approached the ramp of his ship I saw that Raven was getting an itchy trigger finger which caused her to fire and the cyborg then snapped the scientist's neck.
The bullet was aimed at his head which short circuit in his robotic parts and when there was an opening William rushed at him slicing and dicing all his body parts into tiny pieces with grace behind every swing.
I made my way over to where the scientist was and noticed that the cyborg had only mortally wounded him internally. After that, I activated my healing skill to heal him completely and after I did, I felt nothing but a rush of fear followed by a rush of relief. Then I fell to the ground because of the amount of stamina.
"Raven you are lucky that the cyborg did not officially kill our scientist. If they had we would not get paid for doing this mission". William said as he looked at me healing the scientists we were supposed to extract from this world.
"Thank you for healing me". The scientist said to me after I sat down to catch my breath.
"Why did they choose to keep you alive rather than send you off to an enslavement camp for re-education?" Sid asked the scientist.
"Because they knew that I had some valuable secrets that I could tell them. I am just glad that you showed up when you did because they were about to start torturing me and I do not know how long I would have been able to last before breaking," he said to Sid as he rose to his feet and began to walk around.
"What kind of secrets do you know that would interest them?" Trent asked him out of curiosity.
"It is because I have found some ancient Osdronian dwellings and if that is not amazing enough, they are intact and functional". He said to us with an expression of excitement across his face as if what we were going to find was going to be dramatically important.
"Show us where you found it," Trent said with a serious look on his face.
I hope that what I might find inside of this functional ruin has something to do with what the goddess told me. The answers to my questions will be revealed very soon.
