New Fear

"What weapons and gear do you want for the mission?" the elite trooper leader asked me as he entered the rear room where I was sitting.

I saw that he was pushing a massive dark blue cart that was being levitated above the ground with anti-gravity braces at the base of it.

"What kind of items do you have in the

?" the female elite soldier asked her leader as he walked by her.

"This device contains all of the standard types of weapons as well as elemental rounds and stones for every kind of weapon." he said as he opened the top of the box, and then a blue display screen came online.

"Then boss; I want two power cells and a TS-54 assault rifle with solar rounds." she said to him.

Then he pressed a few things that were on display, and the items she had requested came from inside the box.

"Here you go, all of the items that you requested are present and accounted for. so, what kind of items are you looking for, Danny?" he asked me after he told her about the items she had asked for.

"Do you have a Whistler pistol?". I asked him and then did not say anything else because whatever his answer was would determine my next question to him.

"It seems that we do actually have that type of pistol available." he said to me after looking at the terminal for a bit, "I am surprised that you even know about that pistol since it is commonly used for assassinations."

"Well actually even though I am a healer, I mastered the use of that pistol before I turned sixteen and went through my Klitron. I know it might be hard to believe, but my father is the person who invented it." I said to him as he handed me the pistol.

"Wait, are you telling me that your old man is the inventor of that pistol?" he asked me with a massive amount of shock that became visible across his entire face.

"Yeah, I know it might come as a shock, but it is true." I said confidently to him without a single expression that would tell him that I was not lying by looking into my eyes.

"Do you need anything else, Danny?". he asked me.

"Yes, I would like fire rounds as well as one firestone for my melee weapon." I said to him with a smile across my face as I held my father's creation.

"All right then, here you go." he said to me as he handed me five clips with fire rounds in them, and my one requested firestone.

After looking at my father's creation again I suddenly remembered one of the weird things about this specific pistol was that there were only five shots per clip unlike the usual pistols that contained anywhere from six to eight rounds in them.

"Now that I have given you the things that you requested for this mission, you need to prepare for battle since we will be leaving the safety of hyperspace soon enough." he said with a serious look on his face as he looked at her and then back at me before leaving the room.

The pistol felt a lot lighter than what I had remembered; but I bet that was because my strength has dramatically increased over the last four years.

After he left, I placed the red elemental stone in the hilt of one of my scythes and then loaded the pistol and then began to walk to the back of the ship to look at the area outside of the barrier around the ship when we finally left hyperspace.

As the ship was about to leave hyperspace, it began to slow down, and the area around the ship began to look fuzzy until the blue lane of hyperspace was totally out of sight.

I then noticed that I could not see anything within my line of sight except the dark beauty of space with occasional stars that made it look quite amazing and there also was a massive ring of asteroids as far as my eyes could see on both my left and my right side.

If the soldiers of The Undead Council were going to attack us this would be the best time for them to do so since we were now out of the safety of hyperspace and there was a short window of vulnerability before we made it to the safety of a fleet around the planet that we are going to finish our mission at.

A few seconds of peace passed before I saw a group of ships that had a red flag with a white skull of different undead races on it, which was the official logo of The Undead Council.

As soon as I saw the ships, they started to fire at us; and shortly after they began to fire, I saw a set of transport ships that made their way to our ship.

The first transport ship started to connect to the back of our ship which meant that we are going to have to fight the army of The Undead Council if we are going to succeed in this mission of transportation.

"Get yourself ready, Danny. this is where the fun part of the job begins. " the female elite trooper said as she put on her helmet and pointed her weapon towards the approaching enemies.

The transport ships begin to close the distance, and when they are almost right on top of us, they attach themselves to the ship in different areas from the outside.

As soon as one of the ships attached to the rear of the ship, I began to feel excitement since I knew that this would be my first time fighting The Undead Council. I wondered what kind of soldiers they would use against us. would they attack us with only the typical soldiers of only skeletons that I've heard about in my studies; or would I have the thrill of fighting my first werewolf on this mission today.

With this ship that was attached to the rear of the vessel, there was only a single door in between me and my next set of targets to kill. As soon as the door opened and I saw the skeleton bodies standing in two columns like an army, I took a few quick shots at them with my pistol to get the element of surprise against them.

When my pistol rounds met the skeletal bodies of my enemies, they burst into flames and quickly became a pile of nothing but ash.

Then the female began to fire her assault rifle as soon as the clip in my pistol went empty, and I started to change the magazine out for a fresh one.

I backed up and noticed that no matter how many shots we took at them and their numbers felt almost completely endless.

As the rear of the line of enemies that was advancing deeper into the transport, I felt it shake with a quick jolt as if something had attached to it. this meant that they had used even more solders to complete this mission, and there was going to be more to deal with if we were to protect this new mineral.

I could now see a massive beast-like enemy that stood about an extra foot taller than the skeletons and had a huge coat of purely white fur around its body. He then started to walk out of the rear transport in a slow walk.

We both kept firing at all the skeletons as they advanced, and then suddenly, they stopped moving.

I was about to shoot at more of them after I had just reloaded my pistol when the female elite soldier put her hand in front of my face to stop me from shooting.

"Danny, stop the main fight is about to start. you need to make sure that you are completely aware and ready for it." she told me as she stopped waving her hand in front of my face.

Then I heard the skeletons begin to stomp in unison and growl at the same exact time. this was most likely a Warcry of some kind. It had a high pitch squeal that was followed by a deep chant that made the hairs on my entire body stand on end as they were chanting.

When they finally stopped making such a racket, they started to move into a pair of lines with one line against each of the walls; and then the werewolf started to move forward until it stopped right in front of me.

"Well, you are quite a scrawny one; even for a human." he said as he laughed while looking down at me.

I stood completely still to ensure that I was not phased at all at the intimidating presents that he was bringing to the battlefield. This was the time to be strong since the battlefield was never for the weak of heart or conviction.

"I will not be intimidated by you a filthy second-rate mutt." I sent as I pointed my pistol at him with my left hand and began to swing my scythe in my right one.

"You really must think too highly of yourself if you believe that you can defeat me." the white werewolf said as his claws began to glow with a purple aura around them.

"Please stay out of this. I am going to either put him in his place or kill him. " I told the female warrior that was to my right with an expression of seriousness and determination that made it clear to her that I was going to win at almost any cost.

I quickly shot two rounds from my pistol at him, and he quickly deflected them with his claws. The shots that I had fired were shot into the wall to my left instead of hitting him.

Then I swung at him a few times with my scythe, and when his claws met my weapon, I saw a small explosion of color rush across my field of vision. This aura of different colors of energy that kept changing was quite spectacular to look at even though it only lasted for a few seconds. It became a mix of purple and red energy as they made contact.

So, I quickly attacked him repeatedly with my melee weapon, and he kept blocking the edge of the blade with his claws. When I continued to swing at him, he eventually stopped it completely from moving by blocking with both of his claws at the same time.

"I do not think that you need this blade anymore. So, since you don't seem to need this anymore, I am going to break it. " she said to me as he pulled the blade with such force that I lost grip of it.

He then snapped the blade in half and threw the pieces at me.

"Now that your weapon is snapped, the only thing for me to play with is you" the werewolf said as he looked down at me.

When he did that, I felt a sudden rush of anxiety and fear come across me. My hands began to shake, which made it hard for me to focus because I had used that type of melee weapon ever since I was instructed by my teacher during my education phase. I knew that he would be very upset at the fact that my weapon had been destroyed in battle and by a filthy mutt no less.

This werewolf was a lot harder than I thought that it would be.

Then the werewolf attacked me and due to my fear, I was unable to move in time and he knocked me onto the floor and quickly knocked the female unconscious beside me before she could react to what happened around us.

"Now that I have rendered you two disgusting and weak humans useless in battle, I will claim my prize." he said as he started to step all over my body.

He started to laugh as he stepped onto my back. It was clear to me that he was enjoying the pain that he was inducing to me. The pain only became sharper when he dug his claws into my back.

I was unable to move whenever he had finally gotten off my back due to the fear that was still clouding my judgment. Would he come back to finish me, or would he think that I was so weak that I would not be worth any effort on his part.

After he left the room, I was only able to hear a little bit of weapon fire, followed by a lot of loud screaming. Then everything went totally silent.

"The vampire lords will be pleased with our success on this day. Leave the pitiful humans to be they are not even worth killing. " I heard the werewolf say as he entered back into the room where I was lying on the floor.

He stepped all over me again before leaving the ship and heading back into his dropship.

After all the enemies that were still in one piece had finally gotten back into the dropship, it began to separate from the transport after it was sealed its door shut.

When I was able to finally move again since I could no longer see that werewolf, I began to feel upset at the fact that the reason why we had failed this mission was because of my fear. I would have to do whatever it took to recover that rare item.

"Are you still alive, ma'am?" I asked her when I began to shake her awake.

"Yes, I am fine he just caught me off guard." she said to me as I saw her rub her head as if to nullify the pain that she was most likely feeling.

I had a bad feeling about whatever was going to come next because of what I had allowed to transpire here today.

Would my fear have caused something more intense to occur to the group, or would I ever have a chance to redeem myself for allowing myself to be engulfed in fear when he broke my melee weapon. that is what I was going to find out as soon as I possibly could.
