CHAPTER FOUR
'I still don't get why you my help to look for an outfit, I thought you are just meeting your co-worker, is he hot?' Kate my best friend of over twenty years asked, obviously excited with the fact that I was leaving my house for once, she had tried setting me up multiple times with different guys, she was lucky in love, she got married to her high school boyfriend and decided that is a love guru, setting me up with every single guy she sets her eyes upon. 'I'm actually surprised you agreed to go out with him on a date, you friend to go on a blind date with Edwin s friend the last time' Edwin is her husband
'Well, it's not a date and you tried to set me up with a guy that have fifteen cats, I mean I am a cat lover but fifteen is quite a lot' I said
'A man that has fifteen cats definitely would have a lot of love to give, why don't you try this one' she pointed to a black leather dress that I can't even remember how I got it 'yeah, definitely wear it'
'Nah, it's too sexy, I'm going for a don't mess with me like of vibe'
'Okay, then this should go with your vibe' she said laughing, she pointed to my police uniform
'Ha ha, very funny' I said pushing her playing
We finally settled on a pink shirt and a black jean pants, I got dressed and drove to sunset bar, the best bar in town by my standards, then I got a text from Kate 'have fun with a winking face emoji' typical, I thought to myself.
I walked in and saw Gabriel sitting at a bar already conversing with a female, eager to hear their conversation I walked quickly to him and said 'hi'. He looked up and said 'Oh, hi Ariadne , this is Jasmine, she was just introducing herself to me, Jasmine this is Ariadne my co-worker' he introduced us, I could deduce that the girl, Jasmine was obviously attracted to him and wanted to try her luck. 'Hi, I guess I would see you around Gabriel' she said blushing and walking out.
'Just one day here and you are already popular' I said to Gabriel
'No, I'm not, everyone here is just pretty friendly' he answered with a little smile on his face
Gosh this guy is really cute, I thought to myself.
'So...'
'Well, Ariadne what would you like to drink', he asked
'Margarita please'
'Ok, and I would have scotch on the rocks please' he said to the bartender 'so, what made you want to become a detective' he asked me
'Well actually,my dad was in the police force for a long time, so I grew up going to the station most of the time, and my dad's friend was super nice and I just loved the way he acted, I grew up watching them solve cases and I just knew it would be something I would love to do, and I joined five years ago and I must say that I'm loving every bit of it, the satisfaction that comes with solving a case is unmatched' I answered while sipping my margarita slowly
'That is cool, I joined because I was finding it really difficult to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, my sister suggested I joined, in her words so I can find a purpose, to be honest I was kinda a bad boy when I was younger' 'oh I can tell' I said snickering and we laughed.
We chatted for hours on end, laughing, I found myself opening up more, it seemed almost surreal, he was very easy to talk to, the walls I had built around myself seemed to be collapsing, brick by brick, I found myself reminding my heart multiple times not to fall, he seems nice now but who knows.
I checked the time it was past 10, 'I think it's time for me to leave', I voiced out.
'Ok, let me walk you home' he said dropping cash on the counter for the bartender.
We walked down symphony street, our shoulders touching as we walked, I could tell that he was watching me, his eyes I touched had a little shine to it in the dark, I walked a little bit faster, trying to stay ahead so I wouldn't have to notice his eyes. We walked till we got to my apartment, 'well, this is me' I said.
'I guess I will see you tomorrow then' He said 'and I hope tomorrow our work relationship would be a little bit better that it was today' he added.
'I hope so'.
