What happened here?

After questions about where the woods were, we were on a train. Thankfully the rides were free, so not a single dollar we have wasted after switching currencies. Euros were a lot more expensive than dollars, if you want to know.

It was a ten-hour journey that make my legs cramp and like jellies. Although I have strolled on the accelerating train, it was not enough until we entered a small village, tall conifers surrounded it. Instantly I put on my jacket, and waited for the train to stop.

"We're here," I muttered as the train doors opened, the station was full of busy passengers.

"Wow," exclaimed Akiff as they went closer through the cool breeze. The air was cool as the small buildings surrounded them. They approached a shop which sell supplies for trekking.

"Three complete sets, do you have?" I asked as the man in the cashier nodded, and went to the back.

"About to trek, hm? Take care of yourselves," said the man, as he turned placed trekking bags, attire, bottles, even a first aid kit is ready stitched on the bag. I nodded as we took the heavy equipment, maybe a lot lighter on our shoulders.

"I mean, they may be robbers there… beware," added the man as we thanked him, and set off to gear up.

Well trekking is a usual activity for me in Singapore during the day, but I did not know how dangerous the 'robbers' that he said. Well, at least we could relax a bit in this woodland.

Adam gulped up some water from his water, we were heading nowhere in the middle of the woods. I do not care, though, for which way it leads?

Rustle! The sound of bushes shaking rose my instincts. I pick out my knife, and pointed it to the bush.

"Who is there?!" Adam yelled as he put out his knife, too. Oh shit, don't tell me its the robbers, I thought hesitantly.

We closed together, watching our backs. Whoever is there, don't come close!

"Hello, kid," snickered a gruff man which thick Spanish accent as he popped out of the shadows, with some armed men holding their rifles, pointing to us.

"You must be the robbers, huh? You looked to kind to be one," I put up a brave smile as the man approached me.

"Sometimes the most polite is the most savage," he muttered. Of course I knew it. But I still put up a determined expression as other men started surrounding us, myself prepared with the knife that the kit brought. What will happen to us?

"They looked brave, but they're still kids. They won't remember us," one of the men said. The man who looks like the captain nodded slightly, and asked the weaponised men to leave.

"Come, we'll show you around," the man sighed. Akiff exhaled deeply.

"We will actually welcome anyone here, except our enemies, of course. The term 'robbers' is not a word for us, we were looking for definite justice," he said as we walked into a basecamp. It looks awesome, with a beautiful lakeside view all the way. Pretty for a robber camp.

Almost nothing looked evil to us, for the so called 'soldiers' were respectful to their leader, have such attitude, how can they can be so disrespected by the society?

"Thanks," I said as some men offered glasses of water, we sitting along the campfire. It was calming indeed.

"Do you want to know why do I chose this place?" asked the captain. We three shrugged nearly the same time.

"It was a long story…"

Captain POV

1830, Spain.

No one knew what happened at that day. Nothing important happened there. The American civil war has not even started.

But it was important, for the story to go on.

It was my great-grandfather, who has risked his life for an adventure.

A great adventure all around the world. Except for one, his own homeland, of course.

He is now walking by the woods, enjoying the cool air. It was very antique by the old times, so he brought what is needed to be brought. The chirruping birds made the scenery better.

"What's that?" the brave man asked, he sharpened his vision, and saw in a distance. A lakeside, sparkling with pure water. He dashed through the bushes, having not to pass it since he has started trekking through the woods.

"Wow!"

The sparking lake was so clear until the huge catfishes swam close to the basin, so clear that the underwater plants could shine under the sun. He gleamed in delight as he pulled out his fishing rod, and plunged the bait into the rippling waters. He whistled a tune, as he prepared his camp, as so-

FLASH!! A blinding light enlightened everything around him, him closing his eyes with both hands to avoid blindness. What is happening?! Maybe that is what he thought.

Suddenly the blinding light vanished, the man squinted his eyes at the lake. Holy shit!

A pillar of light, green light, was like striking the ground from a distance, behind the towering mountains. He was shocked!

"What the hell is that?!" asked the man, who cannot believe his own eyes. Are there aliens? Or supernatural creatures? What is happening there?

But there was one thing that made his instincts go wild.

The lake was raging like the oceans, all the pure water has been seeped with the dark soil. His fishing rod flew and got sucked in. The wind was so fierce, to sturdy conifers behind him got its branches twisted and blown. He had to defend himself from the cyclone behind the rocks nearby. His stuff was ruined at that second, his tent, campfire, and all the belongings he brought were gone, blown by the wind.

Then the wind stopped but a deafening howl was heard! A screech like a phantom's was so loud, his ears could burst and rocks could shatter because of it.

"Aargh shit!!" He screamed as he pulled his towel and wrapped around his head, covering his ears as tightly as possible.

After all the chaos, at that second, everything was silent. The lake stopped raging. The pillar of light has vanished. Even he could not believe that it was that silent, like it was only him, no birds, no fish, not even a single creature was left there….

He slumped down, fainted.
