Slight Misunderstanding

Chapter 37 Slight Misunderstanding As Kailey staggered and stumbled, the witch hat watched intently without intervening. It was curious to see how the other soul inside Kailey would respond to help her. The hat could see two distinct, vague colors within the body and observed as the less dominant color took over, steadying Kailey's legs and returning her to the table. However, due to the new soul's inexperience, Kailey accidentally hit the table with a yelp of pain, causing the vague color to recede as the dominant one took over. Kailey reacted to the pain in her side, and clarity washed over her, allowing her to collect her thoughts. Once she had done that, she spoke to Aleshia with a hint of irritation at her actions. "I appreciate you trying to help, but I would prefer if you didn't do anything too extreme until we have fully figured things out. Let's practice in an area that isn't slippery to avoid sustaining permanent bruising," she said, ending with a light joke. The scolding unintentionally attacked Aleshia's soul within the soul's sanctuary, causing her to shrink back as she felt the irritation that was multiplied due to being inside the sanctuary made by Kailey's soul. The sanctuary was filled with Kailey's raw emotion, causing Aleshia to misconstrue her true intent with her last joke. Aleshia replied apologetically, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you. You slipped, and I tried to move you to a safer place." Upon hearing Aleshia's words, Kailey was slightly confused but still forgave her. This caused the emotion that surrounded Aleshia to abate, leaving it calm for some time. Kailey appeared to be talking to herself, but no one else was around to find it odd aside from the witch hat. Surprisingly, the hat observed Kailey without confusion, as it expected such a situation. After watching for a while to ensure nothing went wrong, it returned to its golem out of curiosity, as it had not interacted with it for decades. The hat proceeded to pick up and examine each object, looking for any necessary changes. After discovering multiple flaws, it released the objects it was inspecting with a long groan, contemplating how naive and easy it would have been to be seen through by the people outside. It then went back to see how the girl was faring. As the hat watched the girl speak to herself, it calculated the possibilities of leaving the ruins.
