Two Choices

Chapter 38 Two Choices

The witch hat was in its mind thinking over things while watching the progress the soul and Kailey were making. The two ran across the room as they constantly shifted their control to refine their jerky movements as they adjusted to walking in the same body. The two of them practiced in the room for hours. They moved around the room while getting accustomed to each other's presence. They even tried using magic, which surprisingly worked quite well. However, since the two shared one person's mana pool, simultaneously casting two spells proved quite taxing for Kailey's body. As a result, she exhausted herself sooner than expected. While lying on the ground, Kailey questioned Aleshia about how she appeared in this world. She thought she was just a figment of her imagination.

In response, Aleshia said. "I know this won't sound sane, but I believe I was in a space inside your soul. I was an unconscious beast for a time in there, without a will. But after absorbing an amount of mana and soul fragments containing memories. I returned to being myself. After that, I experimented with the concepts in the space and created a domain that held the memories in the space like a shell. Making up my being."

Aleshia's statement surprised Kailey. After a few moments, Kailey responded by saying some words to comfort Aleshia and then ended the conversation and approached the witch hat to ask it a question, interrupting its thoughts. The hat acknowledged her presence with a noncommittal noise. Kailey then asked a crucial question: "You gave me two choices before it was to choose to take you or your knowledge, correct?"

The hat twitched in surprise as it heard Kailey's words, remembering what it said when it first met Kailey. While in despair, The witch hat thought about what to say before responding. "Yes, I guess you're right. Since you have contracted me and chose the knowledge I held, it would be fair to assume you have custody over me. But I said that as a joke. That was the first time we'd ever met. I haven't talked to anyone in a while, so I made a joke." The hat sputtered as the words rushed out. Kailey wasted no time and asked the witch hat to take her to the research, holding unique, long-forgotten knowledge.

"I see you're quite eager for this knowledge," the hat said while giggling. The hat brought Kailey out of the room and into the hallway, leading her down many corridors.
