The Deal

Chapter 132 The Deal Aleshia felt the individual in the shadows scrutinizing her words for signs of hidden intent. She expected this suspicion and accepted the scrutinizing gaze of the voice. After a period of silence, the one who spoke emerged from the shadows of the dimly lit room, stepping into a small patch of light. Aleshia saw the figure appear to be a boy around the same age as Ren. However, unlike Ren's tattered clothing, this boy wore sturdier attire suited for the wilderness, adorned with many well-mended patches suggesting it had endured many battles. Looking at the visible parts of his body in the dim light, Aleshia could see that his body bore numerous scars. As Aleshia stared at them, she couldn't help but recall Ren's tearful words about being a "lesser" and the supposed punishments they faced for leaving the slums. "And do we need to pay you for that service?" The boy asked in suspicion. No," Aleshia replied. However, as the boy's gaze grew sharper and more intense, she could feel the suspicion radiating from him. She added, "In exchange for information about the city, I can help heal the children." "Alright, I can be up for that deal, but I won't let you near them," he said, making a broad gesture toward the shadows. "Unless you perform your help on me first." He repeated his words, his voice taking on a threatening tone. "I won't let you near them until then." Aleshia was surprised but expected demands and accepted his terms, extending her hand. "Shake my hand, and we will have a deal. Then, I will demonstrate how I can heal," she said politely. "I won't intrude unless I have your permission." The boy stepped closer to Aleshia, extended his hand, and shook hers. "Alright, then. We shouldn't do it here, though. We will go outside, and then you can perform your healing. However, if you try anything funny, you will not be welcome back." With that warning, they made their way back through the front entrance. When they stepped outside, it took Aleshia a moment for her eyes to adjust to the brightness. Once her eyes had adjusted, she looked behind her and saw the boy who had followed her, blinking repeatedly and rubbing at his eyes. "Hey there, Aleshia. I trust you've met Daniel. He doesn't easily trust others, but once you get to know him, you'll see that he is kind-hearted," Ren said while watching the children play with the witch's hat.
