Strange Markings

Chapter 143 Strange Markings

Aleshia had reached a dead end in her search for that place, prompting her to return to the laboratory. On her way back, she encountered the strange markings that had intrigued her earlier. Although she couldn't decipher their meaning, she felt they must serve a purpose, given their random appearance in various rooms. Aleshia remembered the 'Start' glyph she had seen on the console and began to ponder why the markings were there and how they might relate to the glyph.

"What could 'start' mean?" Aleshia murmured, furrowing her brow in confusion as she contemplated the nuances of the word. She recalled the various contexts in which "start" could be used and began listing them. Eventually, she settled on an interpretation that aligned with her current situation. "Considering its implications, it suggests an action that initiates something or sets an event in motion." As she paced around the empty room, she reflected on that idea.

After a few more steps around the room and some contemplation, Aleshia realized the purpose of the glyph. Slowly muttering it aloud, she said, "The glyph is meant to initiate something—perhaps a game of some sort. The markings could be one of the objectives of the game." With that conclusion in mind, Aleshia began replanning things.

'Since I can't find the room where I first met her, I suppose I should start looking for more markings and note their locations on a map or something,' Aleshia looked around for a piece of paper and a quill, but after searching for a while, she gave up. "I guess that idea is out of the question," she groaned.

Thinking up another solution, Aleshia began memorizing every room she encountered with a marking. However, after a few grueling minutes of trying to remember each door and corridor, she devised another clever trick: she would close the doors to the rooms that didn't have any marks.

Aleshia slapped her forehead in frustration for not thinking of it sooner. She retraced her steps to the farthest point she had reached and started closing doors that were not related to the hallways and markings. After she had finished that task, she proceeded back into the laboratory. "Alright, now that most of that is out of the way, I guess I should press the button and see what other criteria I need to meet. Knowing one of them will be helpful, but since I'm unfamiliar with the game, here goes nothing." With that, she pressed the glyph.
