Chapter 152 The Fourth Mark
Aleshia and Kailey continued walking until they reached a corridor with no doors other than the one they had entered through. Aleshia looked around the room and said, "I think this is the farthest section of the maze I've reached. Alright, let's each take a side and open the doors. If you or I find a mark, holler at each other, okay?"
"Alright," Kailey nodded.
With that, Aleshia and Kailey took their sides and began systematically opening doors. With each door they opened, they improved their dexterity and handling skills. Before long, they had opened all the doors in the corridor, including the one that led to the next room. Finding no marks, they proceeded to the next corridor. They repeated this process several times, growing increasingly skilled at opening doors.
After exploring for what felt like hours, Aleshia's mind began to dull, and she was on the verge of slipping into a mind-numbing state. However, remembering that she now had Kailey with her, she realized she could combat her boredom by talking to her. Believing that Kailey felt just as bored, she broke the silence by initiating a conversation and asking, "So, is there anything we can discuss? Would you like to hear what happened after Lucia and I left the ruin?" She opened a door as she spoke.
Not seeing a reason to decline Aleshia's offer, Kailey pondered before agreeing. "Well, it beats the boredom of what we're doing now, so sure, let's chat. Tell me."
Aleshia was overjoyed to hear Kailey's agreement and began to explain what had happened after they left. "When we left the ruins, I decided to name the witch's hat Lucia, as I mentioned before. After that, I became curious about the talismans hiding the entrance to the ruins. I examined the rock covered in talismans that you must have noticed," Aleshia said.
"Yes, I did," Kailey replied.
Aleshia continued, "I ventured deeper into the forest, studying the rock's facade. While I was doing this, I encountered a green wolf, and we ended up fighting. In the end, I killed it."
"Yes, please continue," Kailey replied, feeling slightly dissatisfied with the story's simplicity but becoming more intrigued. Just as Aleshia was about to continue, Kailey opened a door that led to a room with a mark on the wall. "Wait, Aleshia! Come over here!" she called out. "Is this one of the marks you were talking about?"
Aleshia walked up to Kailey's door and peeked inside. Excitedly, she said, "Yes! That is the mark. Do you want to go in?"
Without hesitation, Kailey replied, "Of course, I wanna go in! As long as you let me check it out first, I'll forgive you for asking that," she teased.
