Web Searching

Arriving at the house, Alex entered and put his shoes in the drawer next to the door.

"Im back!" Alex yelled as he came inside, hearing ruffling from the dining table.

Turning to the sound, he found Bella's mouth coated with what looked like strawberry jam as she ate a sandwich.

Alex stood there for a moment as a sweatdrop rolled down his temple.

"That looks horrifying. Clean your mouth, will you?" Alex said as he went to the kitchen and threw Bella a towel.

"Mmmh Mmm Mmhmm," Bella said as she shook her head.

Alex just looked at her momentarily and shook his head in disappointment.

"Is my sister a barbarian?" Alex mumbled to himself, though he was just loud enough that Bella could hear him. He had practiced just the right volume to make it seem as if he had let her hear him on accident.

'From what Alice said, though, I need to practice even more. Maybe she can teach me the ways, ' Alex thought to himself as he remembered Alice's perfect fake expressions.

*Gulp*

"What do you mean by barbarian? If im a barbarian, then what does that make you? My own brother, huh?" Bella said as she yelled in Alex's face.

Alex could only hold his hands up as he retreated backward, step by step.

"Im sorry, im sorry," Alex said. His words didn't match the smile on his face, however.

Turning around, Alex headed towards the stairs and then had a sudden thought.

'Bella's pc worked in the movies!' Alex thought suddenly as he turned to face Bella.

"Hey, Bells, can I use the computer in your room? Mine doesn't work," Alex asked as he faced Bella.

It took a few moments to get an answer, however, as Bella almost choked on her food and had to get up quickly to grab a glass of water.

"Uhh, are you all right? Do you need me to help?" Alex said as he looked at his sister.

"Haah." Releasing a breath of air, Bella finally turned towards Alex and nodded.

"Yeah, you can use the computer. Don't play any games on it, though, as it's already barely working," Bella said as she sat back down at the dining table.

Nodding his head, Alex turned around to head back upstairs.

"Thanks, Bells," Alex said as he almost ran upstairs.

'Let's go take a shower first, however,' Alex thought as he headed into his room. He took off his clothes, only taking a towel that he wrapped around himself, and headed into the bathroom.

What started as a quick shower idea turned into an hour-long hot shower.

As soon as the bathroom door opened, white-hot steam started flowing out and engulfing the hallway.

'That was just what I was needing.' Alex thought as he got out of the bathroom with the towel around him as makeshift shorts.

Heading into his own room, Alex quickly changed into a comfortable pair of old pants and a hoodie and then headed outside his room, right toward Bellas's computer.

'I can finally access the internet. I have no idea how I could survive this long without it. If I didn't have vampires and superpowers to mess with, then I would already be dead from boredom,' Alex thought as he opened Bella's room door.

Heading inside, he sat on the computer seat directly as he pressed the computer's power button.

*Vrrinng*

Sound started to be heard as the hard disk inside the computer started turning and making noise as it read the data that was inscribed on it.

'Ah, these old Hard disks sure do bring back memories of my childhood,' Alex thought as he smiled at the old computer.

'Now, don't you dare show me a blue screen,' Alex thought as he furrowed his brows at the computer, his expression changing in a single second.

The computer's screen lit up for a second, becoming bright gray and then black again.

'No, don't do this, come on!' Alex thought as if his encouraging thoughts would make the computer work faster.'

The screen finally changed color as it showed the Windows XP logging-in screen.

'Hell yes,' Alex thought, raising his fist in celebration.

And then he stood there for another five minutes.

Finally, the screen changed once more and showed the desktop.

'Finally,' Alex thought as excitement bubbled through his body.

'First, let's check out the web and search for any mentions of vampires. I've searched about this countless times in the past in my old world, and I know what there is pretty much, so let's see if there are any differences, ' Alex thought as he opened Internet Explorer and searched for 'Vampires.'

'Let's go from the simple definition of the world to more selective knowledge that I know from the movies, ' Alex thought as he waited another minute for the search results to show up.

'It's not just the computer. Even the internet speed is horrendous,' Alex thought as he shook his head sadly.

Finally, the search was completed, and he was greeted with a bunch of websites.

They were all the same as the ones he had seen in his own world. However, they were all called vampires, creatures of the night who were burned under the sun and were afraid of garlic.

'That's closer to what I would be if I had all the side effects rather than what the vampires of this world are,' Alex thought to himself as he skimmed through the hordes of text on random websites he found.

'There's nothing that interesting on there when I search for vampires. How about I search for the cold ones, then?' Alex thought as he typed the words into the search bar.

A minute later, Alex stared, surprised at the single article on the search results.

'Myths of the native American tribes? Is this supposed to be the website Bella found?' Alex thought as he stared at the link on his screen.
