Chapter 30: This isn't just hunting

The battle outside the Territory is fiercely intense. Constant flashes of sword light pierce the darkness, illuminating the battlefield. These are the combat skills of the Angels, the brilliance of Holy Cross Sword and Holy Light Slash.

In addition to these skills, Angels are also unleashing golden flames that scorch the battlefield, known as Angelic Flame, capable of purifying all evil forces in the world.

Under the glow of the sword light and holy flames, Edward could clearly see the forms of the monsters. One type is made up of piled white skeletal frames, known as skeletal monsters. Another type, with greenish skin and blood-red pupils, moves swiftly on all fours, called ghouls. Most of these are mutations from deceased humans, hence they retain some human features.

Both types of monsters belong to the undead species.

As Lenn the Goblin said, the nighttime wilderness is dominated by demons and undead. Edward doesn't know what the demons look like, but he has seen the undead, and they are densely packed.

On the battlefield, there is a thick mass of undead creatures surrounding the Angel squad like a tide, making Edward's scalp tingle with horror. The sheer number has always been an advantage for the undead.

At this moment, each Angel is forced to face attacks from multiple, even dozens of undead. The only consolation is that these undead creatures don't seem very strong, as swathes of them are being slain by the Angels.

Edward communicates with the Worlds' Floating Isles, activating the kill notification for ordinary monsters. Immediately, a continuous stream of kill notifications appears, almost without pause.

With the help of these notifications, Edward also learns the identity information of these two types of undead creatures. The skeletal monsters on the battlefield are low-level troops of the undead clan, mostly level one and two skeletal soldiers, with a few being level three and four skeletal warriors.

The ghouls on the battlefield are generally level three and four, with a few reaching level five, classified as elite ghouls. Although their numbers are not as high as the skeletal undead, their strength is somewhat greater.

"The situation is still manageable," Edward thought. "The enemies are all ordinary undead creatures, with no high-level undead appearing."

Looking at the intense battle in the distance, Edward couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. The advantage of the undead is their numbers. Looking out at the battlefield outside the Territory, it's filled with the shadows of undead creatures, dense like swarms of insects.

As long as there are no large numbers of high-level undead, the Angel squad can handle the situation comfortably. But if high-level undead were to appear in large numbers, the situation would be dangerous. Hunting would be out of the question; the first reaction would be to retreat back to the Territory.

"Indeed, just as I thought, the Angels' mastery of divine and radiant power is the bane of undead creatures. Whether it's their combat skills or the Angelic Flame, they can easily slay undead beings."

Edward witnessed firsthand...

A newly summoned Angel, still at level five, battling ghouls of the same level.

With a few slashes, not only did the ghoul bear deep sword wounds, but black smoke also billowed from the injuries.

Normally, undead do not feel pain.

But the Angel's attacks made the ghoul scream in agony, as if its very soul had been struck a grievous blow.

Then, the ghoul, seemingly frightened, turned tail and ran.

It wasn't long before the beautiful, flying Angel caught up and decapitated it with a single stroke.

The headless ghoul continued to struggle on the ground, and the Angel delivered several more slashes, dismembering it completely until it finally perished.

Additionally, the Angels released golden holy flames onto the battlefield...

Under the envelopment of the holy flames, both the ghouls and skeletal undead screamed in agony as they were reduced to ashes.

Generally, fire has little effect on undead creatures.

But the Angels' holy flame could subdue undead beings decisively.

The evil power within the undead acted like gasoline; just a touch of the Angelic Flame and it would ignite fiercely, burning the undead to ashes.

Such scenes of battle were numerous.

This directly proves that Angels are the nemesis of the undead.

Even at the same level, Angels can easily slay undead creatures.

If it were any other faction's troops, killing undead, notoriously known as undead creatures, would not be so simple.

Take the skeletal warriors on the battlefield, for example—

Even if their bodies are shattered, skeletal warriors can rely on the power of the soul fire to reassemble their skeletons and fight hundreds more rounds.

However, the divine and radiant power from the Angels can purify the soul fire.

Once the soul fire is extinguished, the undead creatures must die.

This is a perfect example of factional suppression.

...

"Before higher-level undead creatures appear..."

"The ordinary undead on the battlefield are essentially just delivering experience to the Angel squad."

"And it's an endless supply of experience to boot."

Edward's initial worries dissipated, and his spirits lifted.

He could clearly see new undead creatures continuously flooding into the battlefield.

They surged forward like waves.

And as swathes of undead were harvested, both the Angel squad on the battlefield and Edward, as the Lord, received substantial amounts of primal force rewards.

If this slaughter continues...

Edward even suspects that he might not need to wait until tomorrow morning for his level to soar to four, advancing him to a mid-level professional.

Keep in mind, he is currently in the late stages of level two.

Ordinary professionals are divided into three 'ranks'.

Levels one to three are considered low-level professionals.

Levels four to six are mid-level professionals.

Levels seven to nine are high-level professionals.

Breaking through level nine makes one a king-level professional.

Stepping into king-level ranks one among the mighty, no longer just an ordinary professional.

...

"This isn't just hunting; it's like grinding in a game where you're in an XP dungeon, gaining tons of experience every second."

Edward was thrilled, even regretting why he hadn't sent out the Angels last night, missing out on a significant influx of primal power. However, as soon as this thought emerged, he dismissed it.

Last night, he only had seven Angels under his command, hardly enough to handle the current tide-like undead army. Any carelessness could have led to mishaps. Thus, his previous decision was absolutely correct.

"With over fifty Angels grouped together, they could handle the continuous waves of the undead."

"While harvesting a large amount of primal power, gold coins would occasionally burst out from those undead monsters."

"This wave was really a big win."

Both primal power and gold coins are very important. Even without the explosion of blueprints and equipment, they were enough to satisfy Edward.

Time quickly passed, half an hour went by. The battle outside the territory was still fierce, and Edward was wide awake. He felt he could watch all night.

At that moment, Edward suddenly felt a tremendous energy surge within him. This energy visibly transformed his body, enhancing his physical condition.

Long after the energy dissipated and his body stopped strengthening, he discovered his level had broken through. From the late second level, he had advanced to the third level.

Considering the entire Worlds' Floating Isles, this was a very low level; even the skeletal warriors being harvested en masse by the Angels were at levels three and four.

But remember, it had been less than forty-eight hours since his arrival. This shows how terrifying Edward's leveling speed was.

If the Worlds' Floating Isles ever opened a [profession level leaderboard], Edward's level would undoubtedly be far ahead. Dominating the leaderboard would be no problem at all.
