Chapter 33: No amount of gold coins ever seemed enough

This was Edward's second night on the Worlds' Floating Isles, and sleep did not come easy.

Throughout the night, he could hear the roars and howls of unknown creatures near his Territory, waking him up several times.

He suspected that the Skeletal King, Gary, frustrated by his inability to breach the Territory, had dispatched undead creatures to disturb his sleep.

Each time he thought about this, Edward's resolve to defeat the Skeletal King only grew stronger.

The next morning, Edward woke up yawning.

On the bedside table next to him, the Angels had prepared his breakfast—fresh fruit, roasted meat, and honey water, the same as yesterday.

Given the circumstances, the Angels did their best to serve Edward.

To them, as their sole deity, the Lord of Holy Light, Edward deserved the finest things in the world, and they would have gone to great lengths to provide for him if conditions allowed.

While eating breakfast, Edward browsed the [Island Trading Platform] and occasionally checked the chat channel to see what the professionals were up to that day or if there were any new scoops.

This was part of Edward's daily routine.

After breakfast, Edward walked down from his second-floor bedroom to the first-floor Lord's hall.

The first thing he saw was a pile of gold coins in the hall—over two hundred of them.

Clearly, this was the harvest from the Angel squad's overnight raid on the undead monsters.

While Edward was asleep, the diligent Angels had already cleaned up the battlefield and piled the spoils in the Lord's hall.

At that moment, the Angel squad was not in the Territory; they had already headed to the Goblins Tribe.

Along with the Angel squad, there was a large transport team composed of about two hundred Goblin warriors and Goblin fighters.

The battle at the Tribe was about to commence.

"There are a total of two hundred and sixty-four gold coins," Edward noted.

"Enough to summon five two-winged Angels."

"Besides the gold coins, there are also two pieces of equipment," he added, pleasantly surprised.

"A bone sword and a piece of defensive leather armor."

Although no blueprints had exploded, the unexpected appearance of two pieces of equipment and a substantial amount of gold coins delighted Edward.

He immediately checked the information on the two pieces of equipment:

[Skeletal Sword]

[Type: Attack Equipment]

[Damage Level: 4]

[Durability: 100]

[Special Effects: None.]

[Description: This is a bone sword crafted from the vertebrae of skeletal undead, containing a faint trace of undead power.]

[Ghoul Leather Armor]

[Type: Defensive Gear]

[Defense Level: Level 5]

[Durability: 100]

[Special Effect: Camouflage]

[Description: Crafted from the hide of elite ghouls, this leather armor allows you to blend in among ghouls. Ordinary undead creatures below level 5 will have a hard time seeing through your disguise.]

...

Two pieces of equipment, one a level 4 standard gear.

The other, a level 5 premium gear with a special effect.

Edward was thrilled; together, these items could fetch several hundred gold coins, maybe even more.

Especially the Ghoul Leather Armor—it might just bring him a pleasant surprise.

Without hesitation, he listed these two items on the [Island Trading Platform], setting the auction mode.

Auction duration: one hour.

The starting bid for the [Sword of the Skeletal] was one hundred gold coins.

The starting bid for the [Ghoul Leather Armor] was three hundred gold coins.

As soon as the items were listed, they caused a small sensation in the [Island Chat Channel], attracting the attention of many professionals.

At this stage, level 4 equipment is still quite rare on the trading platform.

As for level 5 equipment, it's described as scarce.

Especially level 5 equipment with special effects, which are even rarer.

So far, only two pieces of premium level 5 equipment, not sold by Edward, have appeared, and both fetched high prices.

However, that's not the main reason for the sensation.

Nor is it because Edward's fame has reached every corner of the island.

It's because of the 'secrets' behind the [Sword of the Skeletal] and [Ghoul Leather Armor].

[Island Chat Channel—]

[Typical Edward, putting up two pieces of gear, one of them a premium item.]

[@Edward Lord, looking for a sponsor.]

[But seriously, didn't you guys notice? Both pieces of equipment Edward listed are from the undead faction.]

[Just undead gear, what's so strange about that?]

[Edward the big shot can even pop level 8 premium gear, let alone level 5.]

[That's not the point, I suspect Edward the big shot has started hunting at night. Generally, undead faction monsters appear at night.]

[Damn, is Edward's strength really that formidable?]

[As a high-level Lord, I say going out hunting at night is a death wish. Just last night, I lost a squad of high-level troops, didn't even make a bubble.]

Being one of the few high-level Lords, this professional was quite proud.

But soon, someone replied and scoffed.

[Brother above, just because you can't do it doesn't mean Edward can't.]

[High-level Lord, so what?]

[Edward is a top-tier Lord.]

[While our squad was still figuring out how to survive the night, Edward the big shot was already hunting wild monsters... just goes to show, comparisons can really kill.]

[Edward the big shot is just too strong.]

[Holy smokes, look at the trading platform. In just a short while, the bidding for the Ghoul Leather Armor has already surpassed four hundred seventy gold coins.]

[Are there really that many rich folks nowadays?]

[This bidding frequency... the final price is definitely heading towards a thousand gold coins.]

[Seems like, the most expensive level 5 premium gear before only went for five hundred thirty gold coins.]

[Is this the so-called star effect?]

[Really don't get what those crazy bidders are thinking, what's the point of paying a high price for a level 5 gear just because it's from Edward?]

[Just goes to show, some folks have more money than sense.]

...

Edward, keeping an eye on the [Island Chat Channel], couldn't help but shake his head as he read through the messages.

These people just didn't see the real value of the [Ghoul Leather Armor].

Those who did realize its worth were either frantically making offers or beating their chests in frustration, upset that they didn't have enough gold coins to participate in the bidding.

"There are still plenty of smart folks out there," he mused.

"The Ghoul Leather Armor hasn't let me down; it's brought me a nice surprise."

Edward was looking forward to the armor fetching a stunningly high price at the auction.

As for the chaotic chat channel, he no longer paid it any attention, instead using his thoughts to connect with the [Worlds' Floating Isles] and summon a black hole.

Shortly thereafter, five beautiful figures emerged from the black hole—five enchanting, dual-winged Angels.

After this summoning, Edward was left with only twenty-six gold coins, which made him reflect.

For him, as a Lord, no amount of gold coins ever seemed enough.
