chapter 3

It took a while for me to wake up with my head still throbbing. For a while and just laid still not moving due to my face hurting so much. I tried to move my head but the pain on my face and especially on my nose kept me still. After a few minutes passed and I was finally able to open my eyes and I looked to see that I wasn't at my house. It was a dark and dingy basement with only a mattress, a nightstand, and a single light bulb dangling from the ceiling. I got up slowly so as to not irritate my face any further. As I got up I heard footsteps coming down the stairs leading to the door. I started to panic as the footsteps grew louder. Soon I heard the door unlock to reveal a tall long black hair man wearing a white button up shirt and glasses.

"Oh, you're awake." he said looking a bit surprised.

"We were wondering if you were going to be okay after that head injury." he continued as he walked to where I was. Then he handed out a sandwich to me.

"Here eat, you'll need it" he said. I stare at him and the sandwich for a minute or so before tentatively grabbing it and taking a bite. I kept looking back at him as I was eating due to the fact he was just staring at me.

"Um, where am I?" I asked nervously.

"Oh, you're at my house" He answered

"Well technically you're in my basement..." he said, scratching his neck nervously. I look around nervously.

"So, who are you?" I asked. He looked confused, then suddenly looked shocked as if he realized something important.

"Right my name. I'm Wilfred. I'm Sylvia's roommate." then that meant I was most likely at Sylvia place.

"Is she here?" I asked fearfully. Wilfred grimace.

"Oh, looks like you remember what happened last night." Wilfred said

"Was kind of hoping you wouldn't." Then Wilfred reached behind himself and pulled out an ice pack from his pocket.

"Here. It's for your nose." he said as he handed it to me. I put it on my face as Wilfred turned and walked away gesturing me to follow. We made our way up the stairs and into the main part of the which looked surprisingly normal considering I now know who-or what-lives here. Wilfred then pointed to the couch.

"Sit. I'll go get the girls" Wilfred said softly. I went to the couch to wait as Wilfred went upstairs. As I sat on the couch my mind began to race. Was what I saw was real? Did Sylvia kill those guys and if she did, why didn't she kill me? As these thoughts enter and run around in my mind I look around in the room. It looked clean and well lived in with bright paint on the walls and various amounts of accessory on the wall. I look to my side to see the front door right beside me. Couldn't I just leave? Before I was able to do anything, footsteps came running down the stairs. I turn to see Sylvia looking not much worse for wear and with new clothes on too, followed by Wilfred and another woman with short black hair and wearing a dirty sweatshirt. Sylvia gasped before running directly to me and instantly I flinched at her sudden arrival which was still too fast for my liking.

"James I... I'm so sorry!" Sylvia said horrified as she looked at my face.

"So, you should probably get your nose looked at. Think it might be broken." the other woman said lazily as she came walking at a slower pace.

"James, I didn't mean to… you have to understand I wasn't-" Sylvia continued before she was cut off.

" Syl calm down. It's already too late to fix it." the woman said, looking down at us. Sylvia looks at her shocked.

"Amber! We don't know that yet!" Sylvia tries to argue. Amber shrugs before turning to me.

"So, what are you going to do?" Amber said calmly.

"Do what?" I did not get what she was saying. Amber tilts her head to Sylvia

"About your relationship with her. Don't think you'll stay with her knowing what she is. And what she did." I paled,

"So, what I saw last night was true?" I said frantically. Sylvia jumped up at her defense.

"I swear it was just those two guys!" Sylvia cried out. Amber muttered something I couldn't understand causing Wilfred to glare at her.

"Anyway," Wilfred growled,

"We need to figure out what to do with this situation." I gulped. They... They weren't going to kill me, were they?

"What is there to do? What is done is done. Nothing's going to change that." Amber said with a frown. I needed to speak up. What if they decide I'm too much of a liability and decide to kill me the chance they get. I swallowed.

"Um." I said, gaining their attention.

"What are you guys and what do you want from me?" I said slowly as to not agitate them. The three however looked a bit shocked which concerned me. Wilfred narrowed his eyes

"You mean...You don't know?" He said, looking directly at me. "

No," I said,

"I don't." For a moment nobody said anything. Then Amber groaned out

"And you couldn't get someone who actually knows what is going on here?" Sylvia looked down in shame.

"I-I was planning on telling him." Sylvia said with her head down. This got me confused. She was planning on telling me she wasn't human.

"Well why don't I tell him for you? Make things a little easier, okay?" Amber said, clasping her hands before turning to me. I still went. "

So, as you saw Sylvie isn't human and neither are we." Amber said, pausing for apparently some sort of effect.

"When it comes to people like us, we like to be referred to as neighbors or what you call Monsters."
