chapter 6

The room was tense after that statement. James didn't have a clue what was going on but from the look on everyone's faces he knew it was bad. Wilfred looked a mix between concern and pissed, his eyebrows furrowed and a scowl on his lips threatening to break into a snarl. Amber looked like she was going to throw up, a stark contrast to her when she was looking at the body of a dead woman. She had gone pale, and her shoulder went limp. Sylvia however looked horrified. Her hands were covering her mouth, and she had this frightful look on her face.

The room was silent. Suddenly Amber stood up, hands banging on the table.

"Okay new plan. We need to end this fucker." Amber declared still looking pale but more determined.

"First off." Wilfred stated "we are not allowed to do that. We could and would get fucked over. "Sylvia was the next to speak up.

"But we can't just do nothing! Even if he doesn't find Amber, he'll kill plenty more innocent girls." Sylvia says, still looking concerned and fearful. James's meanwhile was trying to figure this in his head. For what they said the vampire is looking for a witch right? James can see that this is bad for people like Amber, but he wondered why in the world a vampire is looking for a witch.

"So, um why does this vampire need a witch's blood? Is it bad?" James inquired. Amber sighs and responds.

"No, it is not my blood he needs. Just me" Amber said, internally grateful for James' question to distract her. "Witch's blood is usually protected from vampire attack making them unable to consume my blood. Hurt like a bitch but I'm not in any danger of feeding."

Wilfred spoke up next, still tense "the problem is that witches have access to multiple potions and elixirs and typically know how to make them too. You get a witch; you get a lot of rewards."

"So do you guys know what he wants?" James asks only for Amber to shake his head.

"That's the tricky part." Amber said as she began to pace around. "You can get a witch for near endless possibilities. It is so vast he could want me for practically anything." James did you take it as a good sign that basically everyone in this room was at least internally freaking out. Wilfred looked between looking like he was about to run out of the room and breaking something with his bare hands. Sylvia was clawing at the tablecloths making small tears into it as well as scratching the table too. Amber was actively moving around occasionally muttering to herself for no discernible reason. All while James sat there like an idiot unable to do anything. Then an idea came to mine.

"What if we lure him out?" James said suddenly, causing everyone to look towards him. James shuffled under their looks. "We could go out tonight and maybe catch him off guard or trap him?" Amber looks at him as if considering before leaving the table to go upstairs. James became nervous when she left and then turned to sylvia. "Where is she going?" James asked.

"She's most likely going to her room to get something, I think?" Sylvia said unsure."I've never actually been in her room before. It's usually locked.'' James gets eerily reminded of his roommate Fred who was weird about people entering his room. A few moments later Amber came back to the kitchen with two bowls filled with strange liquids. She walked directly towards James.

"Listen I know you got caught in this shit show with us but if we're going with your plan I need you to agree to do this alright?" Amber said seriously, looking directly into James' eyes. James gulped. But there was this nagging question from the beginning he had to ask.

"What will happen if we don't get this guy?" James asks. "I mean it'll be bad for you but what is going to happen to me?" Amber sighs and puts the bowls down on the table, deep thought considering her words carefully.

"Worst case scenario: we all get killed." Amber said. The single simplicity of that sentence made a cold chill run down his spine however Amber continued. "Which is why I need you to cooperate with us okay? In these bowls–" she gestured to the two bowls on the table–" are the base from what is going to be a protection enchantment and a tracking enchantment. I already have both of these, and Wilfred and Sylvia have the tracking one. All that is left is you."

James sat still trying to process the whole situation. On one hand this had been technically his idea and if they failed by his refusal or ineptitude they could all very well die. On the other hand, what could he do? He was just an ordinary guy with nothing special about him but he doesn't think he really has a choice.

"Okay." James said, his voice trembling, "I'll do it." Amber looked shocked before quickly smiling and then turning toward Sylvia.

"Look like you were right." Amber said, making Sylvia blush. Amber grabbed the bowl with purplish substance in it "kay I'm going to need you to lift up your shirt. James looked confused before compiling. Then he felt a cold wet feeling on his abdomen while Amber said something in a language I couldn't recognize or understand. Suddenly a bright light appeared in the room in front of me. Brief in its blinding and brief in its appearance it died down allowing me to see again. "Alright one down" Amber said before picking up the next bowl. "One to go."
