chapter 7

After marking James with the enchantment, a plan was made. James and Amber were supposed to go out tonight looking as unaware as the average human being while Sylvia and Wilfred followed a few blocks away.

"Why you and me though?" James asks puzzled while Sylvia nodded in agreement.

"Simple." Amber said smugly, confident that her plan will work. "If they notice a vampire and a werewolf with me, they're not going to attack, aren't they?" Jame guessed that would make but if that was the case.

"Then why am I here?" James inquired. "it would be much easier to catch him if you were by yourself"

"Do you think I put that tracking rune on for nothing?" Amber question "Unlike with another vampire or a werewolf, humans are ridiculously easy to overpower even for a fledgling."

James shudders at the memory of Sylvia feasting on those two men even though they were almost twice her size. But she still didn't answer his question. He voices it out to get his answer.

Amber ended up signing. "Truth be told, you're more of a witness than anything. So that if anything goes wrong you can attest to being there." James looked shocked before Amber continued. "With the way this is going it very likely that Syl and probably me and Wilfred will get killed if we don't find this fucker." Amber then looked out the window at the setting sky. "It seems like it's showtime." she said as she got up.

After the sun has set the group split up into pairs with James and Amber on one pair and Sylvia and Wilfred on the other.

"We come as soon as something happens okay." Sylvia said, holding James's hand tight. James hesitantly squeezes back trying to ease himself. This was his girlfriend, and they were fine!

Except his girlfriend is a vampire who killed two guys in front of him just barely two nights ago, and now he's risking his life to be bait for another vampire so that they don't all get killed.

"Okay I trust you will." James said as he split from Sylvia to join Amber. Amber gestured to the walkway.

"Lead the way." Amber said and with that the plan starts.

Several hours later he and Amber were still walking around the city. He checks his phone to see the time. It was 11.45 and it was almost midnight. He put his phone in his pocket when amber suddenly started speaking.

"So how did you and Syl even meet?" Amber asks looking at him

"Why are you asking?" James said nervously

Amber shrugged "mostly curious cause vampires don't tend to court humans and those who do never seem to stay or be that attached" Amber then turned and looked back on the road. "Which is why it kind of surprises me that Sylvia cares a lot about your well-being. Even the nicest vampires aren't this concerned for human life." Jame's looked down back on the road as well.

"Honestly we met during one of my night classes and we just hit it off." James replied. It seems so long ago and honestly, he can't really remember what they talked about, but he knew he liked her. "Anyway how did you and Sylvia meet?" James said trying to divert the conversation

Amber was about to speak before she stopped, and her eyes went wide. She suddenly put out a hand in front of him and spoke very quietly. "Be quiet."

James stopped and looked around and well as listen for a bit before speaking. "but I don't hear any-" was all he got out before he flung backward onto the side by quick blur as he hit the ground, he started to quickly lose consensus. The last thing he heard was someone scream as if they had been burned.
