Chapter 5:- Kana's death and revival

A bunch of leaf jonin also came alongside Tsunade including a Hyuga woman who I later found out was a medical nin. I raised my hands and backed off, letting them do their work after explaining mom's condition to Tsunade. They asked me to wait outside and Kakashi kept watch over me as I anxiously waited for them to do something.

[Third person POV]

Once Kenshin had left, Tsunade tried various treatments that, according to her, should help with a chakra disease. But nothing was working. The Hyuga medic that was with her, using her Byakugan, saw that Kana's body showed no signs of recovery and that it would most probably not last the night. Several hours went by and her body had almost completely stopped circulating whatever little chakra was left. They couldn't reactivate her chakra circulation even with the Byakugan's ability to see the chakra network.

"Please, it's not use. My time is up. Please.... let me see my son, one last time. I can't hold out anymore."Kana pleaded, her voice barely audible. Although reluctant at first, Tsunade soon realized that there was nothing more they could do for her. She called for Kenshin to come inside and made way for him to sit beside Kana.

"Mom? It... it's me. I'm here." Kenshin said, forcing a weak smile as he fought back tears.

Kana's eyes locked onto his, filled with tears and a mixture of sadness and gratitude. Her voice was barely above a whisper. "Ken-chan, I'm sorry... so sorry for putting you through all this.... for making you bear the weight of my illness alone. I've been nothing but a burden to you for the past 7 years. I'm a failure as a mother." She struggled to speak, her breath growing shorter with each word.

"Mom... please, don't say that. It's not your fault." Kenshin said, holding her frail hands tightly.

"If possible I'd like to be buried with your father and sister." Kana said as her gaze drifted to Tsunade and the others in the room and then back to Kenshin. "I know how you feel right now but, I want you to remember... to hold on to hope, no matter what happens. Find strength within yourself.... and never.... give up on life. Be strong. Protect others. Thank you for staying by my side until the end, thank you for believing in me. I love you, Ken-chan."

With her last bit of strength, she cupped his face and gave him a gentle kiss on his forehead as her heart stopped, and her head fell back. Too devastated to say anything, Kenshin held her hand tightly as silent tears flowed freely from his eyes.

Kakashi stepped forward to put a hand on his shoulder, knowing all too well how it feels to lose a loved one. Suddenly, involuntarily, his sharingan activated as the tomoe in them began to spin rapidly, his sharingan evolving into the mangekyo sharingan.

[Kenshin's POV]

I could feel the change in my sharingan as it evolved but I was too devastated to care about it. But suddenly, through my right eye, I saw a faint white light coming from mom's heart. And I felt the need to pour chakra into the eye, to focus on that light. It wasn't knowledge, it was more like an inexplicable sudden instinct. And after I did so, the light brightened as I felt a sharp pain in my eye, followed by my brain and body. The pain was so bad that I nearly fell from my seat but Kakashi grabbed me in time.

"Mom..." It was all I could utter before passing out.

[Third person POV]

After Kakashi laid Kenshin down on a nearby bed, his gaze turned to Kana and his eyes nearly shot out of his skull. Everyone else in the room had a similar reaction because at that moment Kana, who should be dead right now, was suddenly breathing again. Her breaths were heavy but she was breathing nonetheless.

"But... how?! She died right now, in front of our very eyes." Shizune exclaimed. The Hyuga medic that was present activated her Byakugan to observe Kana's chakra network. "Hokage-sama! Her body... it's circulating chakra! And I see no signs of any problem with the generation of chakra as well. Which means....."

"The disease was cured. And her heart restarted. But how?! This shouldn't be possible." Tsunade interrupted.

"I believe it might have something to do with his mangekyo sharingan. Moments before he passed out, he awakened his mangekyo sharingan and did something. I believe that this is it's ability." Kakashi said, looking at Kenshin.

"You did say that he was the son of an Uchiha. We need to talk to him after he wakes up. We don't know what power like that can do if it falls into the wrong hands." Tsunade said, her brows furrowed in thought. "None of you will speak anything about this outside this room." Tsunade ordered everyone that was present there before asking Shizune to take care of Kana. She ordered five ANBU to keep watch over Kenshin before leaving the room.
