Aren’t We Friends?

"And, Anna... what happened to your hair? If I recall correctly... I could've sworn it was completely dark before."

The comment hit Anna like a bucket of cold water, leaving her mind blank for a moment. She scrambled to think of an excuse, but nothing convincing came to mind.

"My hair?" Anna said, feigning surprise as she nervously touched a few strands. Her hand trembled slightly as she forced a nonchalant smile. "Oh wow, really? I hadn't noticed."

Aria raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical, but said nothing at first. Marcus, however, seemed to notice now as well, leaning in slightly for a closer look.

"Now that you mention it..." Marcus started, frowning a little. "Yeah, something does seem different."

Anna swallowed hard and let out a soft, awkward laugh.

"It's no big deal, right? Maybe... it's the lighting or something. Shadows can do weird things, you know?"
