Years ago, standing was a Laboratory, founded by the Nigishimaya's. Its goal was to discover magic and to bring life to new aptitudes.
However, on a faithful night, a tragedy happened. A fire, burned the whole Laboratory down, along with its magicians, and unfortunately, Ryo's father as well.
Ever since that day, magic was a curse for him. Because magic, was the said cause of that fire, and eventually, it was ruled off as an accident.
Every time he uses magic, that tragic night is brought upon his mind, binding him, like a curse.
Yet he thought it was done, that's why he tried magic school. Unfortunately, it came back, like a bad omen, trailing him wherever he went.
And today is no exception.
His breathing slowly calmed down, and he was able to return to his normal self.
"Out of all the times, this will happen at this time." He mumbled in an annoyed manner.
He lets out a sigh before staring out towards the city.
Ryo was young when the incident happened. His Father was a researcher at that lab, and he was Ryo's magic teacher.
Ryo had the skills and the passion for magic. Since childhood, he has already practiced basic magic skills. Added to that was the guidance of a magic researcher, he was able to maximize his potential during his early days.
His mother was very proud and wished that he would enter a prestigious, magic academy, and would become a successful and strong magician, like his father.
However, after the incident, magic became a curse. Having witnessed the incident first-hand, the scene replays in his head like a video on a loop.
At first, he was still trying to learn magic. However, having the same aptitude as the element that killed his Father was a nightmare.
Eventually, he quit magic and locked himself in a room.
His mother was unable to get him out, so she decided to have him a personal tutor through technology, that way, he could still keep up with education. His mother tried to console, and help his son, however, he rejected.
However, he had a sudden change of heart. A realization that he can't stay there forever. That was when he saw the national magic tournament.
...
Ryo sat on his bed, with a blanket over his head, watching the national tournament for magic through his laptop. The flashing of magic and the clashing of powers captivated him. He was reminded of the times when he was using magic.
He contemplated, and relapsed throughout the years that had passed. It's been a while since he saw the outside world. He jailed himself out of the world because of that incident. He wasn't able to manage himself and instead succumbed to this.
He realized those things and decided that it wasn't for the best. Maybe, it's time to change. It's time to arise from the ashes of his past.
He pulled out his phone and called his Mom, who was downstairs, and told her that he wanted to enroll in a magic high school, and that was the beginning of his Seiei journey.
The skills that accompanied his knowledge of wielding a blade, come from the childhood lessons he had. And before going to school, for a month, he made sure to review books and lessons regarding magic, and the natural major subjects of education.
However, he wasn't going to school for himself. He decided to choose Seiei Academy, to fulfill his mother's wishes for him to go to a prestigious magic school. All those years, and all those patience that his mother poured towards him, and yet he let himself succumb to losing himself.
He felt dumb and felt bad, and that's why he decided that he'd use his magic, to make his mom proud, as she was the woman who never gave up on him.
And that being said, he fixed his mind that he'll graduate, and even reach the top.
"Forgetting the past is harder than said." He said to himself.
Even with a goal, the journey along the way is hard.
But of course, consistency and correct practice is the key.
His expression looks serious, yet troubled. He may be sometimes stoic, however, a hint of distress was clear in his eyes.
Suddenly, the bell rang, signifying that the lunch break was already done.
He sighed, before proceeding to place his hands in his pockets and leave the rooftop.
...
In the classroom, the teacher was discussing something. The majority was focused on listening to the lecture, and it was the same for Ryo.
"And, that's that. Does anyone have a question?" Several students raised their hands.
The questions were being answered and that cycle repeated back and forth until everyone's question was answered.
"Then, let's have an outdoor activity. Let's do the concept of levitation."
...
Everyone went outdoors, while the teacher was in front.
"Again, I'll do a little demo..."
As the teacher was speaking, Arata walked up to Ryo and leaned forward, whispering.
"Hey, do you get the lesson? I'm completely lost."
"Yes."
"R-Really? I-I feel quite dumb."
"It's simple. Magic is about imagination. Focus your energy on your feet, and imagine yourself getting lighter. Then, exert force, and imagine yourself floating. That's that."
"That's really harder than it sounds!"
"You can do it."
Arata leaned away and stepped back. Then in front, the teacher did a demonstration on how to do the said magic.
"Now, all of us, let's try them!"
With the teacher's guidance, everyone simultaneously tried the levitation magic. Of course, only a few, like Ayumi, Keina, and others, were successful. Ryo managed to do it, albeit with a few shortcomings.
"T-This is hell," Arata remarked as he fell on his butt, seemingly exhausted.
"Just try and try," Ryo said,
"Y-Yeah." Arata was about to stand up and try again when suddenly, a loud, high-pitched female scream echoed throughout the place, catching everyone's attention.
A layer of confused murmurs began to buzz. Kyouko felt that something was amiss and that she should investigate.
And that's when another scream echoed. This time, it was a scream for help.
Kyouko immediately reacted and ran towards the source of the sound, the 1st-year building.
The teacher, Ryo, and the other students instantly followed, running as fast as they could.
They followed the source of the sound, which led them to the Music Room of the first-year department. Upon arrival, Kyouko noticed that the door was locked.
Without hesitation, she unsheathed her sword as it instantly flickered with purple lightning, and immediately slashed through the door.
Inside, was a girl, pressed towards the wall by a boy, who seemed to be possessed.
"Get away from her!" With flickering speed, she dashed towards the boy and attacked him from behind using a ball of lightning energy on her palms. The boy screamed loudly and terrifically as her lightning electrocuted him.
His screams weren't human. It was of a monster.
However, he began resisting. He was beginning to counter the electricity and was planning to launch an attack on Kyouko. He raised his palms up and began gathering a vortex of black energy.
By this time, Ryo and the other students (Hayashi Silas, Atsumasa Ayumi, Aoki Reina, Tsubasa Rin, and Gushiken Ryuko.) and the teacher arrived. Silas and Ryuko immediately dashed forward, and pinned the boy to the ground, stopping his gathering of black energy.
Tsubasa and Ayumi then went to the girl and pulled her out of the room. The teacher checked for injuries and found some, superficially fresh, lacerations on the arms, and several bruises on the face. The teacher immediately cast a healing spell.
Meanwhile, Reina's expression turned to shock as she realized what was happening.
"This is the case of a "dreaming" incident." She said in a serious tone. Everyone's expression was shocked and serious as they heard the word dreaming incident.
Out of nowhere, a rummaging sound came from the closed bathroom at the far end of the room. In the next second, a girl with a similar case to the "possessed" boy came running out of the bathroom, carrying a purple-magic-enhanced sword in her hand, quickly running towards Kyouko.
Ryo immediately reacted, and in a flash, he flickered in front of the girl, slashed both of her knees with his burning blade, and adjusted his stance, to quickly pin her down on the ground. But, her strength was unexpected.
Ryo exerted more force, but the girl was able to break free.
"What the hell?!" He exclaimed in surprise.
Reina from the side immediately responded and used a bluish type of magic that turned into chains that bound the girl.
The girl also screamed like a demon. A scream that is high-pitched yet doesn't sound like it's coming from a girl. It sounds out of this world. As she continued to resist, the girl slowly glowed purplishly, emitting a strong magical aura that acted as a defensive mechanism against Reina's chains.
Ryo reacted quickly and swiftly pierced through her purplish aura with his flaming sword, and with just enough force exerted, he broke through the piercing right through and shattered it.
And by this time, the Vice-President, who was covered in a whitish aura arrived at the door, with Hina and Airi behind her.
Without hesitation, she cast very accurate ice spikes that crawled from the floor at the speed of sound, and immediately pushed the two possessed students onto the wall, freezing their hands and their feet, without affecting the surrounding students whatsoever.
"Is everybody fine?" Everyone nodded.
"I thank you all for your actions. I will take it over from here."
She walked towards the pinned, possessed students, leaving a cold trail behind her.
Gushiken Ryuko stood up and was about to walk over the door. However, when he walked through the white trail left by Yukime, he was stunned, his eyes widened in shock.
It wasn't just cold. It was absurdly cold to the point where his hands were almost turning into ice. This goes to show that just from magic aura alone, Yukime is already on a high level.
Ryuko snapped out of his shock and walked right outside the door. The cold lingered in his body as he repeatedly shook his hands.
The rest of them quickly left the room, excluding Kyouko, who stayed and walked up besides Yukime.
"Ayako-san... Is this?"
"This is exactly just like last year. This is the beginning of the dreaming incident." She said in grave, and serious voice.
Kyouko's expression turned shocked, and worried. It's only the beginning of classes, and yet, this is already happening.
"I will call the authorities regarding this. We should act while it's still early." Yukime added.
"I agree. So, what should we do about them?" Kyouko asked while looking at the squirming possesed students.
"I'll take them in, then I will ask them questions."
"I affirm your actions, Yukime-san."
"Okay. I saw your teacher put so much effort into healing the injured girl. Just take care of that girl, I'll handle the bigger issue."
Kyouko nodded in agreement, before leaving.
Immediately after, she left, Yukime froze the head of the possesed and knocked them out.
"I will, prevent this incident from happening." Yukime murmured with great determination, as she looked at the frozen, unconscious body in front of her, and her hair slowly turned white.
