Silver Wolf closed the screen and downed a can of cola in one go. Now, she needed to start planning how to get back at that man named Gu Tang... But today was exhausting enough. She'd think about it tomorrow.
"Nothing to worry about—being good at games is already pretty impressive," Silver Wolf reassured herself.
...
...
Gu Tang had found Stelle and Asta.
"I got a text from Stelle saying Arlan is missing. What's going on?" Gu Tang asked with a frown.
"Hmph, just so we're clear, I didn't ask you to come," Asta said, folding her arms and turning her head away in a classic "tsundere" pose.
Stelle sighed. "Sis, now isn't the time to be stubborn. Let's get to the point."
"Oh, right. Arlan is nowhere to be found. He's not responding to messages, and he's not answering calls," Asta said worriedly. "I've been looking out for him ever since I picked him up, and this has never happened before."
"Picked him up..." Stelle seemed puzzled. Could that verb be used for a person? But then again, she was also "picked up" at the space station, and March 7th was picked up by the Astral Express crew. Maybe it wasn't that unusual.
Gu Tang rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Did you inform the Defense Division?"
"Of course, I did!" Asta said, annoyed. "They think it's no big deal. They keep saying things like, 'Arlan is a grown man now; it's normal for him to have his own plans…' I can't get through to them at all!"
"Hmm... Let me ask, how long has Arlan been out of contact?" Gu Tang raised an eyebrow.
Asta put her hands on her hips and answered confidently, "Thirteen hours."
Gu Tang and Stelle immediately put on expressions that said, "You called us here for this?"
Stelle, trying to be diplomatic, said, "Well, Asta, I think 13 hours of free time is perfectly acceptable for an adult..."
"Yeah, maybe he just decided to have a drink with Dan Heng and accidentally got drunk," Gu Tang shrugged.
Though, Dan Heng didn't strike him as the drinking type.
"Arlan never takes more than 13 seconds to respond to a message. Something must be wrong," Asta insisted, firmly believing in her own judgment.
Stelle sighed, "Being a bodyguard for a young lady sure isn't easy."
If Stelle had to reply to every message within 13 seconds, she'd probably just ditch her phone altogether.
Gu Tang scratched his head. "Well, since you're so sure, let's start looking. Do you have any leads?"
"Oh, I have Arlan's work log for the week." Asta pulled out a printed sheet of paper.
The sheet listed Arlan's work review from last week and his plans for the current week. The work review contained all sorts of miscellaneous chores, but the work plans for this week looked rather odd.
**[This Week's Work Plan: Training—From the Heart, From the Mirror, From the Self.]**
Stelle blinked. "Training? What the heck does that mean?"
"Isn't it weird? I told you something must have happened to him," Asta said.
Gu Tang nodded. "I see. In times like these, it's time to bring out the secret weapon."
Stelle looked intrigued. "You have an expert?"
Gu Tang brought his fingers to his lips and whistled.
Soon enough, the secret weapon came running over.
It was a fluffy little dog, panting as it ran over, its round, plump body looking very cute.
"Wow, what an adorable dog," Stelle said, squatting down to pet the dog's head, enjoying the soft, fluffy feel.
The dog was well-behaved, sitting there with its tongue out.
"This is Pepe, my beloved pet. Arlan has been looking after him since he was a pup, and they're very close," Asta explained.
Gu Tang looked down at Pepe. "Exactly. Pepe is more than familiar with Arlan's scent. He'll definitely lead us to him."
Pepe ran to Gu Tang, happily circling around his feet and nuzzling his leg.
"Why is your dog so close to Gu Tang?" Stelle asked Asta.
"I don't know why, but Pepe has always liked Gu Tang. It's how we initially met... ahem, getting off track. Let's focus on the task at hand," Asta quickly cut herself off.
"Alright, Pepe, go find Arlan," Gu Tang commanded, pointing in a direction.
Pepe barked twice, sniffed the air, and then set off on its little legs, heading in a certain direction.
The three of them followed Pepe.
Before long, they found their target in a spacious room within the main control module.
There stood a confident young man, surrounded by a crowd, giving a speech. The people around him looked at him with eyes full of admiration, with many taking notes on his every word.
"It seems Pepe detected Arlan's scent on that man," Gu Tang said, looking at the confident figure.
"Woof!" Pepe barked, apparently agreeing with Gu Tang's assessment.
Asta frowned. "That's... Professor Capote? Odd, what business would Arlan have with this showoff?"
"Showoff?" Stelle looked at Asta, confused.
Asta pointed at the crowd around Capote. "Look at all those fans. Don't you get it? This guy clearly loves being worshiped more than he loves research."
Stelle took a closer look. Among the crowd, two people were even wearing fan shirts that read "I Love Bo-Master." They seemed like die-hard fans.
"In any case, let's go get some intel," Gu Tang suggested.
Asta thought for a moment. "Hmm, I shouldn't be the one to approach him... You guys handle getting the information from Capote."
"Why?" Stelle asked.
Asta glanced around and lowered her voice. "Think about it. As the acting stationmaster, if I start investigating Arlan's whereabouts in front of all these staff members, it'll make him, the head of the Defense Division, look really unreliable!"
"Wow, Asta, you're really meticulous," Stelle nodded in agreement. "If only you weren't so tsundere."
Asta: "Hey, what's that supposed to mean?!"
Stelle and Gu Tang made their way to Capote.
Capote continued his speech passionately, "There remains a faint glimmer of light in my heart, guiding me forward! That light is your happy smiles!"
The fans around him displayed blissful expressions, shouting in unison, "Ah—Bo-Master cares about me!"
"Ew!" Stelle grimaced, feeling a shiver down her spine. "This is so disgusting. Can I punch him?"
"Hold on. Let's get the intel first," Gu Tang said with a blank expression.
Capote noticed the two of them and flashed a flamboyant smile. "Ah, Mr. Gu Tang and Miss Stelle. Long time no see. How have you been? I'm a bit busy right now, so if it's not urgent, can we talk later?"
"It actually is urgent." Gu Tang explained the situation to Capote.
"Captain Arlan? We did meet recently, but if you're asking me to reveal his whereabouts..." Capote paused deliberately, allowing the tension to build among the crowd, then suddenly shouted, "I refuse! I have sworn on my life: Capote will never reveal Captain Arlan's secrets to anyone!"
"Oooh—! That's our Bo-Master!" the fans cheered, clapping excitedly.
"Cut the crap and spill the info, or I'll pull all your hair out and turn you into a bald head," Stelle said, cracking her knuckles with a menacing look.
Her principle was simple: if violence could solve a problem, there was no need to consider any other approach.
"Wait a minute! Are you planning to get rough?" "If that's the case, we, the Bo-Master Fan Club, won't stand idly by!" "That's right! We'll always stand with Bo-Master!"
Capote's fans surrounded Gu Tang and Stelle.
Then, the other staff members in the room all came over, outnumbering Capote's fans tenfold and surrounding them in turn.
These were Gu Tang's fans.
"... ..." Capote started sweating, and so did his fans.
"No worries. Our love for Bo-Master won't waver, right?" A fan wearing a Bo-Master T-shirt said to another person wearing the same shirt, trying to boost morale.
Unexpectedly, the other person smiled, then tore the Bo-Master T-shirt into two halves.
*Rip!*
"I Love Bo-Master" turned into fragments, falling to the ground.
Revealing an "I Love Gu Tang" fan T-shirt underneath.
Gu Tang: "?"
Stelle: "?"
Asta: "?"
"Don't lump me in with you guys. I'm just infiltrating your fan club to gather evidence of your negligence... I've always been a fan of Lord Gu Tang!" The fan raised his head proudly, stating confidently.
