As Naruto eliminated teams left and right, not by killing them but by using the power of Hakai—the Power of Destruction. This power eradicated every essence of their being. Even Shikamaru's team wasn't spared; they simply ceased to exist. As Naruto advanced, he killed off various Konoha teams, including Kabuto, who was an annoyance. Finally, Naruto arrived at a scene where Orochimaru was about to kill his siblings. Although there was no love lost between Naruto and his siblings, he wasn't going to let Orochimaru have them because they were his prey to hunt.
Naruto confronted Orochimaru, who barely escaped with his life. When Minato arrived, he found Menma, Naruko, and Sasuke unconscious. Minato quickly took them to the tower since they already had the scrolls needed to pass. Naruto arrived at the tower, annoyed that one of the teams had escaped him—Team 8, including Kiba, Shino, and Hinata. He had killed off all the Sound teams and others present, with only Gaara's team managing to escape.
As Naruto opened his scrolls, two Jonin appeared, surprised to see him. Asuma Sarutobi and another Jonin, likely Kurenai, were there. Kurenai was relieved to see her team safe. Naruto glanced at Hinata, Kiba, and Shino, planning to deal with them later. Asuma spoke up, "Well, congratulations, you've passed. Go to that room and wait there; the preliminary exams will start soon."
Minato was worried about the lack of competitors who made it to the tower. He hoped the clan heirs were safe; otherwise, it would cause unrest. Menma and Naruko, after using the three-tailed chakra, didn't remember anything. With Orochimaru present in the exam, things weren't looking good for Konoha. Minato had hoped the clan heirs would make it, or the council wouldn't be pleased.
Minato sighed, looking towards Naruto. Despite his efforts to have teams eliminate Naruto, he still made it through. With so few teams left, there was hardly a need for the preliminary exams, but they had to conduct them for formality. Minato announced the importance of teamwork and friendship between nations, then started the preliminaries.
The first match involved random Genin, followed by a fight between Hinata and Kiba. Although Hinata was skilled, Kiba managed to take her down. Naruto faced a random Genin from the Sand, easily defeating him with a shockwave. Minato sighed, knowing these preliminaries were just for formality. He noted the teams that made it to the finals and mentioned the missing teams.
Minato spoke up, "Since so many of you made it, we have to cut down the numbers. Do your best in the preliminaries."
As the preliminary matches concluded, Minato addressed the remaining Genin, "The finals of the Chunin Exams will begin in one month. Train well and develop new techniques. Show the Will of Fire."
Minato flashed to his office, joined by Kushina, Jiraiya, and Tsunade. Jiraiya reported, "Minato, Orochimaru has infiltrated Konoha and the Forest of Death."
Minato nodded, "I already have information about that. After giving Sasuke the curse mark, he fled, but I don't know why. I thought he would seize the opportunity to harm Menma and Naruko."
Jiraiya shook his head, "You never know with Orochimaru. He always has other agendas."
Minato vowed to get rid of Orochimaru.
As Guy and Asuma arrived with unreadable expressions, Guy, almost in tears forgetting about his YOUTH, said, "Lord Hokage, you have to help us. We cannot find our Genin in the Forest of Death."
Minato felt a sense of dread as he looked at Asuma, who shook his head. "I tried, Lord Hokage. Even with the help of sensors, we couldn't find them."
Minato quickly acknowledged the gravity of the situation. "Let's go. After all, the children we're talking about are clan heirs, and their safety is the highest priority."
Time skipped, and the atmosphere in the council room was tense. For the first time in the history of Konoha, the council room was silent. Minato finally stepped into the room with a somber expression. It was dark and dead quiet as he took his seat. He looked around to see the hopeful faces of his old friends like Shikaku, who even appeared desperate. Inoichi was openly crying, and many other clan heads who had children in the Chunin Exams were looking away.
Minato took his seat, and after some time, several Jonin and ANBU arrived. This team consisted purely of sensors. Asuma Sarutobi stepped forward. "After 10 hours of complete searching through the forest, we found no traces—only this." He handed Shikaku a headband with some blood on it.
Shikaku grabbed the headband, tears leaking from his eyes. He couldn't believe it. He knew there was a chance, but he had hoped his son would come out alive. "Why? Damn it, why? They've only been Genin for six months. Why did they even enter the forest for the Chunin Exams?"
He slammed his face into the table. Similar thoughts ran through the minds of many clan heads. Inoichi stood up and vanished, appearing in front of Asuma. He raised his fist and slammed it into Asuma's face, knocking him to the ground. "Damn it, it's your fault! Why did you even let them enter the Chunin Exams? They were only rookies!"
Asuma looked away, unable to respond. Hiashi Hyuga, though he wouldn't say it out loud, was relieved that Hinata came out of the forest alive. The other clan heads who had lost their children were now looking at those who hadn't with anger.
Before the situation could worsen, Minato spoke up. "You all need to calm down. We must understand the situation and find a solution."
