NEW GIRL(3)

Kate opened her eyes while lying on the bed,she was ten minutes early for her alarm clock to ring. She couldn't catch any sleep this night because of what was happening today.

Maybe she could just pretend that she wasn't feeling good and she could stay home sick. Her alarm clock finally rang but she still didn't stand up from the bed,her eyes bloodshot and she knows she won't even be able to fall asleep even though she tried.

Her door was knocked upon before it started opening little by little "Baby,are you awake?" It was Natasha whispering "Yeah mom".

"Okay,good. Won't you start getting ready for school today?".

Suddenly,Kate burst into a coughing fit. She sat down on the bed coughing loudly and painfully,"Mom,I don't feel so good,I think I should stay home today" Then she coughed again,too exaggerated to be real.

Her mask was seen right through, she opened one eye to see her mom's expression and it was worry. Insistent, she fake coughed one last time "I don't feel good mom".

"Darling,if something is going on with you,you can...".

She wasn't going to have this talk with her mom,never. She don't want to feel awkward after it "Everything's good,I was just kidding" She hurriedly interrupted. Her mom's expression didn't change nevertheless"Are you sure you're okay,did something happen yesterday at school?".

She wanted to say 'yes,it was horrible' and explain all that she went through but she couldn't bring herself to say it,she had never felt that kind of attachment with her mom. Her mom has never be around and available for her, it was always work,same goes for her dad.

Yes,they give her everything she needs,it's still not enough and she was tired of trying to get their attention when it was certain that their job means a lot to them.

"No mom,everything was fine. No need to get worried".

Natasha nods but the worried look never leaving her face "Okay,get dressed. Evan is coming over at eight".

Hearing that,Kate groaned so loudly lying down back on her bed "I don't know why you guys have to set us up like that. Two of us can never be friends".

"How would you know that when you've never given him the chance?".

She had so many responses but none could come out of her lips,she didn't want to ruin the good boy act he had going for her parents because she wasn't as evil as him.

She had shaken her head telling him to reject the offer yesternight but of course,like the jerk he was,he had to accept it. He hated her as much as she does but he still agrees to driving her to school everyday and back.

"Nevermind mom,I'll get dressed right away" Natasha smiled and left the room. Kate took her pillow and pressed it on her face before letting out a pained scream.

"Good morning Mrs Troy" Evan was here,ready to pick Kate up for school. Natasha smiles "Good morning to you too,Kate will be down in a minute".

"All set"Kate emerges from the stairs,she jogged to the front door and pecked her mom "See you later mom" Without sparing another glance at Evan,she ran outside and went to his car yelling "Hurry up,I don't have all day".

Natasha looked embarrassed "don't mind her,she behaves childish sometimes".

Evan offered her a tight-lipped smile and a nod before walking in the direction of his car "Get in" He says and went to the driver's seat. She enters the passenger seat and fastened her seat belt.

Neither of them spoke on the drive to school.

The school came into view and soon he was parked in the parking lot. Evan opened the door and began coming out when she held his sleeves in panic "Aren't you like going to tell me not to talk to you in school and pretend like we don't know each other".

He jacked his wrist away from her hold "You're getting out of my car,it's certified that we know each other. Just avoid answering any personal questions relating to me" He came down from the car and slammd the door.

She closed her eyes and breathe in and out twice,giving her enough morale to come down from the car. She could already feel the eyes on her from inside the car,so she just walked into the school brushing past Evan who cooly walked to the school.

"Did she just come out of Evan's car?"

"What was she doing in there?"

"Do they know each other?"

"Damn,this new girl is quick"

"She should be ready to face Ember"

Kate ignored the comments and walked to her class,her head held high,she took strides like she was on a runway. It was all in disguise of her rather palpitating heart beneath her chest.

Today,she was early which she was grateful for. The class didn't become silent on her arrival but she knew that most of them were staring at her,she made her way to her new friends and sat beside Micheal tired. "Hey,didn't get enough sleep,am I right?" Ken said empathetic. Kate nods "Yeah".

"I feel like you should know this,we're writing a test today,it's like a ritual or something,we do it every second day of resumption. It's just questions based on our last semester. I shoulda told you yesterday, am sorry" Ken says pouting her lips and giving Kate a remorseful look.

Kate took in some breath and released it,this school keeps getting better and better "I can lend you my notes for practice" Ken added feeling bad for Kate.

"Thanks,I'd appreciate that" Even though, she won't be able to get anything in within this short amount of time,she still collected the note and flipped it open.

It was Junior year notes,same thing she was taught in her previous school and tutor lesson at home.

Two hours later,they were done with the test and back to normal classes,the results was going to be pasted tomorrow on the notice board with ranks,Kate was sure she aced it maybe not good enough to reach the top ten but she won't be bottom either.

Kate and Evan exchanged glances in the hallway, more like,Kate glared at him and he ignored her by passing right by her.

"You rode in with Evan today" Thomas stated during lunch time. This time,they didn't sit at 'their table' but at another table farther from the eyes of the students.

Ken kicked him in the foot under the table "What was that for?" Thomas exclaimed in pain.

"It's none of your business,if she wanted to talk about, she would have".

"Fine,am sorry Kate. You don't have to answer that if you don't want to" Thomas apologised but there was still curiosity in those eyes of his looking expectant at Kate.

"It's no problem actually..." Then she remembered that Evan warned her not to say anything about their personal lives and it would be too much of an hassle if they find out that their parents are trying to set them up,so she said "He spoilt my car,so he's giving me a ride till it's all fixed".

Ken's eyes widened "I didn't know about that,was it after school? Or this morning?" She asked surprised.

"After school yesterday but don't say anything to anyone,I don't want anybody to know,okay?" They all nodded,Thomas even went as far as zipping the imaginary zip on his lips,locking it and throwing away the key,then he gave her a thumbs up.

She giggled "Great" They didn't speak anymore and ate their food in silence.

It was during the last class that Kate took an excuse to use the restroom. Being a new student was the problem right now,she doesn't know where the restroom was located and she was fucking pressed. Her legs clamped together while she walked in a funny way,reading the labels on each door.

She realised her mistakes of not asking someone to give her a grand tour,she wished she held her map with her right now.

Still looking at the doors at her sides,her eyes locked with Evan's. He sighed in frustration probably wondering why they kept meeting each other in different circumstances.

He was with Ember,while he began to leave,Kate eyes widened. She couldn't let him go,she called out "Wait Evan" She didn't care if people in their classes heard her which they probably did but she was too pressed to concern herself with that. She couldn't embarass herself by urinating in public.

Evan and Ember didn't stop walking,pretending not to hear her nor hearing her hastened footsteps. She rushed towards them and held Evan's sleeves "I also don't wish to speak to you but I need your help please" Ember stared at her like she was some piece of shit but Kate couldn't care less,wait,she would if she wasn't so pressed and their weren't the only students in the hallway.

"We're going back to class,let him go" Ember said sounding snotty.

"I didn't speak to you,did I?..." Kate countered back with anger laced in her words,she stared back at Evan and hung her head low "I just need directions to the restroom and I'll get out of your hair".

"It's the other way around,walk straight and turn right..." Evan coldly said.

Looking grateful,Kate furiously thanked him and turned to follow his directions not doubting if he's wrong or not "New girl..." He called after some seconds, Kate turned and stared at him "Don't make it an habit of holding my sleeve" After saying his piece,he left with Ember to God knows where.

What were they doing together in the first place?,that was the first question that popped into Kate's head as she watched them walk away.

The urine had been held on for too long that she no longer felt it,but she wasn't going to hold it. She turned away from them and went to the said directions that was instructed.
