VENGEANCE IN THE SHADOWS

Morgan couldn't shake the anger that had surged within her when she saw that drunk Guy harassing Emily at the bar. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw him smug face, and heard his slurred threats. She knew she couldn't let it go. The next evening, while Emily was at work, Morgan decided to track him down. She remembered the bar he frequented and the group of friends he hung out with. It didn't take long for her to find him again. The city was big, but some people were predictable

Morgan parked her car a few blocks away from the bar and walked, keeping to the shadows. She saw him outside, laughing and smoking with his friends. Her heart pounded, but she forced herself to stay calm, to think clearly. She waited, watching from a distance, until he finally, separated from his group and staggered into a dark alley, presumably to relieve himself. This was her chance. Morgan followed him,her steps silent and measured. She approached as he fumbled with his zipper, unaware of her presence.

"Hey", she called out,her voice low but firm. He turned surprise and annoyance flashing across his face "you again?. What do you want?". Morgan didn't waste time with words, she stepped forward and punched him hard in the gut, making him double over in pain. But before he could recover, she pulled out a heavy wrench from her bag, smashing it into his kneecap with a sickening crack. He screamed, falling to the ground clutching his shattered knee. Morgan kicked him in the ribs, flipping him onto his back. She straddled him, wrench in her hand, her eyes cold and merciless.

"You made a mistake last night", she hissed "Touching Emily. Threatening her. No one does that and gets away with it", the guy's eyes widened, fear replacing his drunken bravado. "Hey I didn't mean anything by it. I was just drunk-". Morgan swung the wrench down onto his other knee, silencing him with another agonized scream. She didn't stop there, she raised the wrench again and again, breaking bones and reducing his legs into a pulpy mess.

Blood pooled around them, but Morgan's rage wasn't sated. She dropped the wrench and pulled out her knife, leaning close to his ear. "You don't deserve to live". She plunged the knife into his side, twisting it slowly, his screams turned to wet gurgles as she carved a jagged path up to his chest, ensuring maximum pain. She watched his eyes roll back in his head, his body convulsing with each thrust of the blade. When he finally went still, Morgan stood, covered in blood but feeling a grim satisfaction. She wiped the knife clean and slipped it back into her pocket, glancing around to make sure no one had seen. The alley was empty. She had chosen her movements well.

As she walked back to her car, Morgan felt a strange sense of calm. She had protected Emily once more. No matter what it took, she would always keep her safe. When she returned home, Morgan made sure to get there before Emily. She settled on the couch and turned on the TV, flipping through channels absentmindedly.

Soon, the front door opened, and Emily walked in with a smile. "Hey, how was your day?" she asked, oblivious to the dark deed Morgan had just committed.

Before Morgan could respond, the news anchor's voice caught Emily's attention. "Breaking news: A man was found dead earlier today in what appears to be a brutal attack. Authorities are investigating..."

Emily gasped and turned to Morgan. "Did you hear about this?"

Morgan smiled back, pulling Emily into a gentle hug. "Yes, I did. And honestly, it's good that he's gone," she said softly but firmly. "He won't be able to hurt anybody anymore."

Emily's face fell, and she pulled away slightly, her eyes filling with sadness. "But... he didn't deserve to die, even after what he did yesterday."

Morgan's smile faded a bit, but she remained resolute. "Sometimes, the world is better off without certain people".
