The Knight King

It was late night when James came awoke suddenly. There was no sound anything to alert him. He just felt something was wrong. He got up rolled out of bed dressed in a T-shirt and pajama pants and grabbing his wand and heading out of his room. He found Angus standing in the hallway with nothing on but his pajama pants and the peacemaker in his hand.

He glanced at James once before heading downstairs without looking back. James followed behind him and said nothing. Angus had his weapon aimed at the front door.

James followed suit pointing his wand at the door.

The door swung open. A tall man with midnight blue hair and dressed in a black suit stood in the opening. He didn't walk through. He just stood in the opening staring at Angus with a smile.

"You have strong wards inside your house. Did you invent them yourself." He asked.

Angus stared at him saying nothing.

"Aren't you going to invite me in?" He asked in a strange voice.

"You can-"

"Be quiet!" Angus said calmly and silenced James from talking. Angus stared at the man. "You broke through the wards I had on my property. I'll have to take care of inventing some wards to keep out beings such as yourself. I find it rather surprising Mr. Wells could get a ancient one such as yourself to come around to doing his bidding."

The man shrugged. "Long ago, in the times of kings I was a knight for hire for kings. I got changed then I became a knight king for your breed of humans. Service is what I am best at though I do have my own little kingdom and alliances to keep. What are you?"

Angus titled his head to the side. "I am Angus Potter to my friends and family. To others I am called by a different name."

The man nodded. "Dragon of the West. I was called upon to visit you and have a chat. I also had questions about what type of mortal wizard would be called the Dragon of the West. What is he?"

"He is my father, the most powerful bad ass wizard of the modern era." James said and then blinked and stared at the man. "The man that told you to come here was setting you to fall on your face. My Dad is very much a real fire breathing dragon and you are very much allergic to fire and light. My Dad uses both against his enemies." James said.

"Damn it." The man cursed.

Angus stared at the man. "Looks like you came unprepared. You can leave." He said staring at him.

The man frowned at him. "Hmm. You don't attack me though. Why? If you are so formidable and capable then why don't you prove you dominance over me. I don't understand you." He said in confusion.

Angus shrugged. "I don't play by your games. I'm a simple man. Your Daddy told you back in the day you never cross a man with power for one and you never touch his family. So far you haven't touched my family to my knowledge. So we cool. You attempt to step over my line I'm going burn you and everyone else that's coming looking to be mad about me doing the most logical course of action of any man would take when his family is threatened. It is what is bro."

Angus stared at the other man. He nodded his head. "Yes. My father did in fact tell me those words of advice long along. I have attempted to keep those words of wisdom for centuries until tonight. So you have no intention on attacking Mr. Wells as I was led to believe?"

"You would be correct about that. I also told his people that I am honor bound to take him out if he endangers the safety of the magi community or attacks the President directly then he won't be worrying about whether I'm coming to see him. He won't see me coming until he steps over the wall and realizes he's dead."

"The President of the magi congress is your king?" The man asked.

"Yes." Angus said.

The man stiffened and looked angry. "Understood. I am Edger Alabaster Dupree. I apologize for coming to your home at this late hour. I was mislead."

Angus nodded. "Good evening to you then. No hard feelings on my part. Every man makes a mistake here and there. It takes a real man to own up to it. I respect that."

Edger flinched but nodded and turned on his heel walking quickly back the way he came muttering to himself angrily.

James turned to Angus. "Dad. You do know Mr. Dupree is a vampire?"

Angus nodded stiffly. "Yes. I realized that son."

"How did you know about his father saying those words? Did you see them?"

Angus shook his head. "Your mother sent me a letter that we might be getting a visitor soon that was sent by Mr. Wells. She gave me the details on his past that might be useful in handling Mr. Dupree."

James stared at Angus. "Dad. When are we going to handle Wells. He just sent a vampire to kill us." He said.

Angus narrowed his gaze. "We can't touch him right now son. It ain't time." He said.

James frowned at him. "Why? What aren't you telling me? Who is he connected to that is restricting you from going after him?"

Angus shook his head. "I can't tell you. I gave my word to someone to keep his secrets. But your a back sight. You'll learn soon enough why my hands are tied right now. But really the answer is pretty obvious if you think about the question when you go to sleep tonight."

"What question is that?" James asked.

Angus smiled. "What was my last meeting with the Court of Owls about? That will give you an interesting memory to look at. Time for bed son. I'll see you in the morning."

James turned to go up stairs but looked back to see Angus wave a hand the door closed. He stood where he was.

Angus waved a backward hand. "Go on son. I'll go to bed later. I have somethings I have to think about and you need to get your rest for tomorrow for your job interview at your mother's company."
