Legends and Songs of the Past

River Song sat on the ground crossed by a camp fire. Her two twin boys slept quietly in their tent close behind her. The day had gone by fast as they fished and hunted in the wild for food. In the evening they had sat by camp fire to enjoy an evening meal of roasted rabbit and fish.

The boys practiced their song language and magical craft with their wands. Their guardian had watched over them from the shadows not bothering them overall much but he was a silent figure the boys seemed to like.

When it was time for bed River Song sat waiting by the camp fire keeping it going while her precious little ones went to sleep quietly. Their light snores in the quiet night brought a sad smile to her face. She knew it wouldn't be long before she would not be long before she would have to send them away to school. The times were changing and getting more dangerous and now they needed teachers that could shape them into the warriors they would need to become.

James walked up to her camp fire with his invisibility cloak on tucked over his body. His staff was hidden adapted to the same magic in the cloak he wear while a dark figure watched closely.

James held up his hand sitting down on a camping chair on the other side of the camping fire. "Have you gotten on well?"

River Song chuckled and nodded. "Yes I have. Your Grandpa Harry has helped me and my children out well. He's a good man and very loyal. You are right to trust him so."

"When will you come to Hawks Landing?" James asked.

River Song shook her head. "Not now. Don't focus on me. Focus on your work. What would you like to learn tonight for your first lesson?"

James smiled. "I remember you using a form of song in your lessons with your sons. I would like to learn about how to use them."

River Song nodded. "I figured you would. It would be my honor to assist you. But I feel something is on your mind."

James leaned against his staff tapping his head against it. "Yes. I'm tired. I have to play a long game with an enemy that I have not yet seen that is watching me every step of the way and hovering over me and my family. I'm keeping all my cards close toward me but it still won't be enough."

"You will make mistakes and perhaps you have already. You still don't know his name. He has hidden himself well sense his arrival into our realm. I understand your problem. Patience. The answer to your question will come." River Song said.

James smiled. "No one has understood my thinking. But you do?" He said softly.

River Song bowed her head. "We see into the past the foundations for what the future will be! We follow the patterns to what the future could be."

James listened and watched as her words became alive visual spells spoken into reality that seemed to flow out of her body.

"Your magic is very beautiful. I don't understand why the western wizards documented it already." He said.

River song giggled in a musical tone that reminded him of high note. "Shall I you a story. Shall I tell you tale of kings and wizards."

"Please do. I'm interested in hearing something wonderful to hear."

"He was born of the elements. Touched by the ancient magics. On the isle of Morgan in the land of summer set and spring."

James frowned and became intently interested even as he felt the eyes of back-sight eyes. He subconsciously tapped his staff on the ground.

"He had many names. He was the blessed one of ancients the child of promise and joy. He travelled into the lands of man. He taught the lowly, small and great. The one who lived in the beginning of the age of the magi and elemental wusixa."

James nodded. "Go on!"

River Song raised an eye brow. She waved a hand at him to join her in song.

James sighed and rugged his neck. "Go on with your tale of a wondrous beginning." He sang.

River Song smiled and nodded. "He was our father."

"He was one to give us a name and teacher of the song of ancients. Small called him the Oracle of kings. Some named him the man of the mist. The people of the misty island called him Merlin."

James nodded. "Born of the mist. The Oracle of the king to come. The wise one of ancient lore. Was he real or was he a legend of peoples."

"Merlin walks the land again. The ancient one lives again. He has chosen his king. Camelot has risen again. The knights of the old order."

James smiled. "My thoughts mirror yours teacher of the magi way. But, this end like the tale of the king who is to come."

"New era has begun with the duel of the dragons announcing the return of the time of kings. Oh what wonders you will record your magi descendent of the one who slayed the dark Lord."

"To live outside of this story is a wonder to me. To record the events as they come into being before my eyes." He said.

"You live outside the tale of the dragons to record these events. A misty shadow follows you and battle yet to take place is in the storm over our heads." River Song sang.

James smiled as he heard storms rage over their heads. A bolt of lightning crashed down around them their area only to hit a dome of energy. He shook his head at the display as he began to rise. "It's never going to a dull moment for a while yet. Life has become more and more interesting. I'll have to conclude tonight's lesson plan. I got to get back to work. I enjoyed your song. When will you come to Hawks Landing?"

River Song smiled as a thunderstorm raged around them. "I will come when you have concluded your battles and your father builds the bridge for the magi."

James sighed. "It's going to be some time before all that happens. Do you really believe that Merlin really existed?" He asked.

River Song shook her head. "It's just a song for you to practice and something to annoy the back-sight who keep watching your every single hour of your life right now."

James laughed. "Thanks. I'll practice the song on my off hours. Do you know when I will be able to have my second lesson?"

River Song shook her head. "No I don't know the future. Though I expect I will have a few more grey hairs then I do now. I don't know if my magic will be as helpful to you as you might think."

James got to his feet bowing to her. "I intend to make the most of it as best as I can. Thank you again. I will strive to show the world how powerful the song language can be. Be well my teacher." He said and disappeared.

River Song smiled and looked back at her children as they looked at her. She knew the questions in their minds by the deep stares and hopeful innocent expressions. Her time with them was running out fast then she thought. She nodded her head.

"Soon. Not now but soon enough. Water Dragon's trials are about to begin. He must prove himself to the magi and live up to the name is has earned from the people of the east. Until then we all must be patient just little longer then expected."
