A piece of Hawks Landing

James was walking by himself on the ranch checking to make sure the wards had held and thinking about how to make new wards when he felt him. He froze. He stood still. "Grandpa Harry?" He said.

"Hello. James." Grandpa Harry spoke to him. "I had a talk with your parents and they explained somethings. So you've had a bit of ah-" He stopped because James turned into his arms and hugged hims.

Harry sighed and petted his back. "Oh dear. You've had a dream huh?"

James nodded. "Yes. I have." He said and then rubbed a hand down his face as he stepped away. He sighed. "Yeah. Yeah. But, it's over now. Are you coming inside?" He asked.

Harry shook his head. "No. I just need to know something. Did I do right by you and Angus?"

James nodded. "You did. I still plan on keeping my promise to you about-" He said.

"No." Harry said. "I just want you to live your life and make it a happy life. You can take care of yourself now."

James sighed. "Your leaving."

Harry nodded. "I have to go now. It's better that we start changing things around until that bastard is taken out. I'll be around but it's your time. I'm proud of you." He said.

James nodded. "Thank you and I love you." He said.

Harry smiled and "I love you too James. It's dinner time your family is waiting for you." He said and disappeared.

James sighed. "Your right. Time for dinner." He said apparition into the living room of the house. Mara grinned at him and walked over toward him and hugged. He held her close laughing.

"Oi." Dago said.

James froze and turned and stared at Dago. "How's it going mate?"

James took him in a tight hug. Dago laughed and pat his back firmly.

"I missed you mate. Happy birthday. I thought I would drop by and bring you a present." Dago said grinning at James.

James looked at his friend. "Thank you for coming to my birthday dinner." He said.

"Come on son. It's time for dinner." Angus said from dinning room at the head of the table.

James walked toward the table with his arms around both Mara and Dago. He smiled seeing his mother Ava sitting next to Angus.

Mara and Dago took their seats while James took off his gun belt and hung it on a hock that had appeared on the wall next to him. He walked over and sat down.

Angus smiled at him. "Happy!" He said.

James nodded chuckling. "Yeah. I'm very happy right now. My favorite people are all in one room and house. I'm happy." He said.

Angus nodded. "Good. I made a promise to my boss but my family comes first." He said.

James nodded. "Keep your promise dad. It's fine. I planned to be a spell engineer in school and now I want to learn how to craft magical weapons and items and possible expand the family business." He said.

"You also wanted to be a the president of the congress and obtain power." Ava said.

James shrugged and started to serve himself himself ham, biscuits and several other items. "Yeah. Now I'm doing something different. It is what it is." He said.

Both Ava and Angus both shook their heads and waved for Dago and Mara to start eating. James turned to Dago. "What's going on bro?"

Dago grinned. "I saw the secret you and Mara made. How did you do it?"

James shoveled food into his mouth and ate before he spoke. "I didn't do anything. You'll see soon enough. Your a real genius you know that?"

Dago grinned. "I know it for sure, mate. Mara gave me a general idea about what happened." He said.

James shook his head as he finished. "For the most part nothing has happened and now whatever happens is up in the air. One thing we need to do is get protection good around here. Oh. When your parents called you back I think you should go." He said.

Dago nodded. "Yeah. I hear you. But, like you said everything is different now. Mara told me about the project. I think we should consider finishing it." He said.

James shrugged. "I don't care anymore it. It failed and now that I'm on the other side of it I can careless about it. You got the information do with it what you will." He said.

Dago snapped his fingers and nodded his head to James. "How did you do it?" He asked.

James put a finger to his lips. "I'll tell you later when we're in dad's workshop." He said.

"Oh about that." Angus said.

James looked up at him. "What's up dad?" He asked taking a drink from his cup.

Angus smiled. "Nick. He wants to meet you." He said.

James stared at him. "He just asked to see me? Out of nowhere." He said.

Angus nodded. "So do you want to see him. Either way you go I'm fine with giving him whatever answer you like." He said.

James was quiet. He tapped a finger to his cup. "Okay. I'll see him. Not here. I think it would best he never comes here." He said.

Angus sat back in his seat but then he nodded. "Okay. I can set it up for tomorrow!" He said.

James stared at Angus. "Dad. It's only once and I'm not meeting with the others at all. I don't have any interest in politics at all now. All I'm interested in is doing what I do best and my people." He said.

Angus stared at him. "I hear you. You'll have to convey this to him though to make sure he understands your position on it." He said.

James nodded. "Yeah. I think that would be best to do it. Whatever thing you got going with Cole is your business." He said and pushed away from the table wiping his mouth.

James turned reaching for his gun belt buckled it up around his waist. He tied the holster strap around his thigh. He checked the magazine in his peace maker. "Dago. You staying over for the night?" He said.

James put the magazine back in his peacemaker looking up toward him. Dago studied him. "You are a lot different from the last time I saw you mate. I'm going to stay over for a few days and then head back to my family." He said.

James nodded. "Come on. I'll show you to the my dad's workshop and we can talk on the way over." He said and Mara got up with him.

James smiled and walked to the front door. He walked outside looking around. He was walked in silence keeping his eyes wandering.

"You seem on edge a lot mate?" Dago said.

James nodded. "I am. If Mara has told you anything about what happened then you'll understand we spent a bit of time just having jackasses popping up making a stink." He said.

"Still though. You got to chill a bit mate. You came out on the other side." Dago said.

James sighed but said nothing. His senses were alert and he couldn't stop moving his head. His people were out in the open and needed protection.

"Honey can you do something for me?" Mara whispered.

"Anything you need love. Just ask me baby girl I got you." James said coolly.

"Holy shit!" Dago said. "What the fuck happened to mate."

"Be quiet Dago." Mara said. "Sing for me."

James took a breath and still fell in the air as magic burst out. Dago's mouth fell open as he felt it all being driven to one point around James.

"We flew the skies

on clouds of our own creation.

We crafted fantastic wonders in the skies.

We were the guardians of the new age.

These where our dreams.

A wonderland of imagination.

Everyday was a rush of fulfilment.

A puzzle to solve.

A new stage to push past.

We flew the skies

on clouds of our own creation.

We crafted fantastic wonders in the skies.

We were the guardians of the new age.

Low the sands of time flowed through our fingers.

Our time was but for short breath.

Our mission was doomed from the start.

We flew the skies

on clouds of our own creation.

We crafted fantastic wonders in the skies.

We were the guardians of the new age." James said.

James ended him his song as he opened the doors to the workshop. Dago and Mara quietly. He looked at their fallen faces and he smiled.

"It was a good dream. Now it's time for us to live in reality." He said closing the doors he turned back to them with something in his hand.

Dago blinked and stared at the strange ball of mist in his hand. "What is that?" He said.

"A memory of a dream you helped create bro." James said. "I was able to save it. It is how I was able to bring back the memory of the library."

"Me?" Dago snorted. "The way I heard it from Mara you were the-" He said.

"Dago. We couldn't have done anything with you, Mara, my dad and mom. But, you created a things. These are your ideas. Take it!" James said holding it out to him.

Dago stared at him. "Your giving this to me. Are you sure?" He said.

James took Dago's hand and put into Dago's palm. "See if you can improve or update on the ideas you crafted. I was also able to save your notebooks. Those are all yours to do with however way you want just careful though our enemy is still out there." He said.

Dago nodded his head. "Okay. I'm going to need a white board bro." He said.

"You already came up with the idea. It's in the library. Just use your wand to draw on it." James said.

Dago looked at him. "So I can publish the works I came up with in my name?" He said

James nodded waving him to the locker. "Go ahead. I don't care. Hell, if you had suggested that idea that might have saved me from getting fucked up. Go on. I really don't give a damn now." He said.

Dago fixed his eyes on James. "So we flew in the skies and the things we dreamed of creating the world killed us for it. Is that what happened?" He asked.

James stared at him. "It was my fault. You didn't do anything wrong. I got so wrapped up in the dream that I didn't see that-"

"-The world wasn't ready to push the boundaries of the magic." Dago finished.

James again shook his head. "No. It really was my fault. I had advanced and the things I was doing started scaring people. They sent assassin to kill for it?" He said.

Dago stared at him. "Did you start killing people? Were you trying to take over the world?" He said.

"I did people." James said.

"James!" Mara said.

James groaned. "Okay. I killed people that were trying to kill me or people that hurt you. But, I was becoming a problem by the stuff we were inventing here. People in power saw me as arrival so they decided to-"

"-So were they right though?" Dago asked.

"What?" James said.

Dago shrugged. "Were they right about you wanting to gain power to take over the world. Was that ever your dream. Our dream. To take over the world? What was our dream?"

"To create a better world. To push and advance magic no one has ever seen or imagined. For a bit of time we flew in the skies brother. We succeeded. To create something wonderful."

Dago nodded and held up the magic of Hawks Landing. "Then it was worth it. We have this. You can remember where we went. We can start over a different way." He said.

James stared at him. "I got to go for walk." James said turning and quickly pushing the door opened and walking outside."
