Chapter 8 – Midnight Party [1]

Kiara yawned lightly and rubbed her eyes. She was tired, unlike him who didn't seem tired at all.

"How are you still awake? I am so sleepy now."

"Haha, well... I am used to staying up late." He smiled wryly at her question.

'Writing at night makes me feel at ease compared when I am writing with the sun out. Though I have to sacrifice my sleep thanks to that.'

"I guess you are a gamer or something." She shrugged her shoulders, "I always fell asleep after playing a game for an hour. I am the type to work my body out rather than sit in the same place."

A casual chat between two people in this apocalypse. Vale found it strangely relaxing, unlike his initial reaction when he was alone and everything had yet to happen.

But his enjoyment would be short-lived.

Shouts and screams could be heard from outside. Constant explosions rang in their ears, making them grimace a little bit. At that moment, a loud roar could be heard nearby, shaking the whole building and causing both of them to stand up.

Vale picked up presence from outside. They just appeared without warning, causing him to grip his sword tightly and ran to the nearby window. After looking outside, he frowned.

Kiara also didn't stay silent after watching him. She took out her sword and followed him.

"What happened?" She asked, arriving at the window.

Once she looked outside, her question was answered.

Monsters. Starting from a small green-skinned monster to a giant snake and a large demon. Two of the faceless Mage Vale killed earlier were also here with their red eyes glaring at them.

"Hahaha, it seems the apocalypse wants to end the day with a bang." He laughed, his right hand gripped his sword handle tighter. "Step back a little, Kiara. Let's get out and fight them. Staying inside a building is bad news. We have to defeat them as quickly as possible."

Kiara nodded her head in understanding, "Alright."

She didn't know why he asked her to step back when they were about to go out. However, when his hand suddenly moved, she understood why.

Flash.

Vale unsheathed his sword faster than Kiara could react. It was an unbelievable speed that she didn't think was possible for a human to achieve. And in an instant, the wall in front of him slowly fell outside.

It was not just a small hole either. Vale had slashed a huge gash on the wall that reached from the roof to the bottom of the floor.

"Alright, let's kill them." He said casually as he jumped down.

Kiara was dumbfounded, but she followed suit right away.

Landing on the ground, he looked at the horde of monsters in front of him and looked at his status, especially his Qi.

Qi: 9

The result of its never ending use was visible. In a day, he increased his Qi by 4. It almost doubled when he had just awakened it.

'Great.' He thought, looking forward. His lips tugged up into a small smile as he charged toward the monsters, swinging his sword as he went. 'Just great.'

In less than a second, he arrived in the middle of the horde and lowered his stance.

"One-edged Sword Style, Thousand Blossom Fall!" He roared out as he slashed his sword outward, creating countless slashes that tore through the monsters nearby.

A wave of wind spread out from his slash, sending most of the monsters flying back. Their bodies were torn apart and blood splattered everywhere. Then, he dashed toward the monsters that were still standing and attacked again.

"Skill: Quick Slash!" Kiara didn't stay silent. She chanted her skill. Her wooden sword moved like a flash of lightning, cutting through the nearby monster effortlessly. "Wow, damn! He's really strong. I was so stupid to ask for his sword from him."

Monsters' corpses littered the field as white aura flickered on his sword. Vale looked around. Even when he killed a lot, there were still too many monsters for them to fight.

At that moment, he heard wind being split and instinctively raised his sword.

Clang!

Ice-cold steel clashed with his sword, causing him to frown lightly. The blade was not a simple sword but a scythe. A skeleton stood in front of him, wielding a huge scythe in its bony hands. The scythe was covered in a strange red aura, which wasn't Qi or Mana but something else.

The skeleton growled and swung its scythe again, aiming at Vale's neck this time.

He dodged and prepared his counterattack. However, he stopped at the last minute as he heard the roar of a giant demon above him. A large claw was coming at a speed faster than he had expected.

In that situation, he finally used his Qi. His muscle tensed up and his body became lighter. He put strength in his grip and twisted his sword in a horizontal slash, unleashing a powerful energy blade that pushed the claw back and even created a gash on the demon's palm.

Vale exhaled audibly and jumped backward, avoiding another scythe swing from the skeleton.

As soon as he landed, he sheathed his sword and lowered his stance once again.

"Drawing Art, Reversing Heavens!" He shouted out as he unleashed his fastest speed yet.

The sword in his hand was unsheathed and the Qi on it exploded, creating a white slash that ate everything in front of him, including the skeleton and the demon that was still attacking him from above.

"Ah... Ah?!" Kiara was shocked at the scene in front of her.

She was barely able to fight against one monster when Vale single handedly fought against multiple monsters and even a demon with an insane regenerative ability.

It was like watching a god descended from the sky and slayed all monsters in front of him.

Suddenly, the demon roared out in pain. Its body was twisted and deformed, with blood spurting out from every part of its body. It looked like it was about to explode until it finally did.

A huge explosion erupted in the air, creating a huge crater in the field and a blastwave that blew away everything in its path.

Vale was able to dodge it as he landed next to Kiara.

"How are you doing?" He asked as he surveyed the surroundings. The monsters were thinned considerably. There was no sign of magic being launched at them, which meant the two Mage monsters were probably killed from the attack he unleashed.

"I'm good." Kiara said as she shook her head. Her body was bruised and slightly battered, but she was alive. She had just cleared out a small group of monsters when Vale killed the skeleton and demon all by himself. "Say, aren't you too strong?"

"Strong? I guess so." He smiled lightly at her question. "Although, I believe the battle is not over yet."

"Eh? Why?" Kiara looked around and widened her eyes in horror.

"The boss is here."
