Jodie was awoken by a tight pain in her chest. It could be best described like her heart was about to get ripped out of her chest. Clutching at it, she sat up straight and squinted against an angry ray of sunlight that had sneaked into the room through a small gap in between the brown window drapes.
Ares was nowhere in sight, and she wasn't sure he'd eventually joined her in bed after their very lengthy conversation last night. She'd spoken a lot about her old pack life and almost slipped up twice on her most recent secrets. The whisky they had during the chit-chat was partly to blame. It made her tongue feel a little too loose and her head a little too light. Thankfully, reality set in when he commented on how suitable the night was for a run in the woods. She'd declined the offer with the excuse of a headache and went to bed after he insisted he would handle cleanup so she could go in to rest.
