Don't Rush to Die

Born didn't want Emerson to throw his life away.

During their time together, Born had come to appreciate Emerson's unique charisma. He was carefree yet meticulous, capable of keeping secrets.

Born already considered Emerson a crucial part of the base.

He walked to the combat vehicle and removed the tarp covering it.

The squad had already assembled behind him.

The logistics team filled the gas tank, loaded crates of crossbow bolts and ammunition onto the vehicle, and everything proceeded smoothly.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the Starry Night Laboratory.

A massive horde of zombies was attacking the tank team.

Emerson stood on the tank, continuously firing at the zombies with his submachine gun.

The tank roared, blasting a path through the zombie horde.

As they neared the Starry Night Laboratory, Emerson realized something strange.

The zombie horde, about 1000 meters from the lab, showed no intention of approaching it. Instead, they seemed like a zombie wall, protecting the lab.

The lab's searchlights scanned the surroundings, and the entire building was brightly lit.

Solar panels and a few wind turbines were visible on the side, indicating a small power station.

This was completely different from the conditions at the exhibition hall.

The exhibition hall could only provide power intermittently, relying solely on generators.

"Charge, charge, get inside, and we'll be safe!" Emerson roared.

After losing seven or eight men, they finally broke through the outer perimeter of the Starry Night Laboratory.

Here, the zombies seemed to be afraid of something, not daring to come closer. They scattered, continuing their aimless wandering.

Emerson surveyed the area and noticed several unidentified metal barrels.

One team member approached a barrel, which immediately emitted loud banging noises, startling the member into kicking it.

In the distance, a few figures suddenly appeared, standing silently atop the high metal barrels.

Emerson frowned and asked, "Are you from the Starry Night Laboratory?"

"I am Major Emerson from the military," Emerson announced.

However, his only response was a cold electronic voice.

The two metal barrels beside them suddenly began to shake.

"C55, C56 thawing, program initiated, imminent release, please be aware, please be aware."

The next moment!

The barrels abruptly split open, and two tall zombies emerged.

They had eight tentacles each, which spread out and flailed menacingly around them.

The tall zombies had large iron masks covering their entire heads, giving them a fearsome appearance.

Their left arms appeared to have undergone some surgery, fused with long blades.

"Program initiated, commence intruder eradication!"

The tall zombies began to move, each step causing the ground to shake.

With a flick of their tentacles, they sent two team members flying, blood splattering everywhere.

Clang, clang, clang!

The team members fired their guns, but the bullets bounced off the iron masks, creating blinding sparks.

Emerson's arms suddenly bulged.

"Arm enhancement, double strength!"

Emerson had an enhancement-type ability, which he had learned to use to reinforce parts of his body.

He rushed at one of the tall zombies, tearing off several tentacles with a swift motion.

Then he leaped behind the zombie, trying to rip off the iron mask.

Meanwhile, the other tall zombie went berserk, charging around and shooting its tentacles like machine gun bullets, piercing the team members' bodies.

Emerson was so focused that he didn't see the zombie's blade arm coming.

With a squelch, Emerson was impaled, falling to the ground as blood flowed freely, staining the grass.

All around, his team members screamed in agony.

The C55 and C56 zombies were slicing through them like they were nothing. Only those with awakened abilities could hold them off for a moment.

But even that only delayed their deaths slightly.

"Damn it, I am a major! I order you to stop, stop!"

Emerson kept shouting, but his threats were powerless.

The figures standing on the barrels remained silent, exuding a cold indifference.

Just as it seemed the entire team would be wiped out, several figures suddenly appeared on the tank and then entered it.

Rat-a-tat-tat!

The rapid-fire sound of a machine gun echoed, and zombies fell in large numbers.

Boom!

A shell flew and struck C55, the explosion's shockwave flinging Emerson away.

The cold electronic voice sounded again.

"Alert, alert, C45, C46, C47 thawing, commence intruder eradication."

Three more barrels opened, and similar tall zombies emerged, marching forward with heavy steps.

In an instant, lightning flashed, illuminating the surroundings.

"Still alive?"

"If you aren't dead, get your men to control the tank and take cover inside, providing long-range fire support."

Emerson struggled to lift his head and saw Born with a slightly teasing expression.

Groaning in pain, Emerson slowly stood up and looked around.

He saw about ten people in maid outfits rushing out, engaging the five tall zombies in combat.

And these combatants were just the regular team members.

Mia and the others sprinted towards the figures standing on the barrels.

Emerson hadn't expected Born's women to be so formidable.

While the tall zombies cut through his team like butter, they struggled against the maids.

When thrown by the zombies' tentacles, they quickly got back up and charged again, full of vigor.

From afar, precise crossbow bolts provided long-range support.

This team's combat capability surpassed even the elites in the military.

Only the elite assault squads from the military could compare.

"You sly devil, you've been hiding your strength, haven't you?" Emerson said, spitting out a mouthful of blood.

A medic rushed over to tend to Emerson's wounds.

Meanwhile, more barrels began to open.

These zombies all had designations starting with 'C' followed by two numbers, indicating their formidable strength.

"Damn it, the Starry Night Laboratory is getting harder to deal with," Emerson muttered. "Our previous intel suggested they were just well-armed and had some ability users. Now they've got biochemical weapons too."

Emerson's eyes flickered, lost in thought.

Born snapped his fingers.

A flash of white light appeared.

A figure in a sailor uniform, wielding a long sword, dashed out at incredible speed.

Her sword seemed longer than her height, dragging on the ground.

With a flash of white light, a tall zombie's head rolled to the ground almost instantly.

The attacker was Teri.

Teri smirked coldly, lifting her sword to strike again. But just then, the tentacles behind the tall zombie started moving once more.
