Chapter 20: Lonely Cabin
We raced into the lush forest with Mr. Killian running with me in his arms and with Sir Jareth at the lead, hopefully leading us outside of the forest. Sir Jareth can be so unpredictable and we may end up in the middle of the ocean.
Slowly, the trees that we passed started to lessen. I can feel us moving slower as we head straight to the light peeking behind the trees. As we moved slower my vision also became clearer, it was no longer as blurry as it was before.
I released a huffed breath when Mr. Killian stopped running. My eyes slowly widened in shock as I scanned my surroundings. Everything is green. The trees, grasses, I might even mistake the dirt to be green. The tree trunks are also covered in green moss that seems to wrap the whole tree. I couldn't describe it nicer, because everything is beautifully greened, I won't be able to bring justice to this picturesque view that is in front of me.
It was like God just decided to pour all shades of green into the area and it resulted in a masterpiece.
We were on a cliff side of the mountain, in front of us were many more mountains that were so magnificent and healthy looking, no bald spot spotted on the mountain. a good sign. I thought that I was in Switzerland. There is a wooden cabin in the middle of it that just made everything like a picture out of a Bob Ross painting.
No, it's more beautiful than a Bob Ross's painting.
"I think we can stay here until tomorrow." Mr. Jareth said as he walked towards the door.
The cabin was small. It was made out of rocks and woods and there are potted flowers everywhere. The potted flowers were already overrun by the grass but it didn't make anything less.
He lifted the welcome mat in front of the door and then proceeded to lift every flower vase that was in front of the house.
I watched him with furrowed eyebrows as I wiggled my way out of Sir Killian's seat belt-like arms. Sir Killian on the other hand was staring at me with furrowed brows and decided to drop me into the ground when I wiggled, again, like a worm in his arms.
"I can't find it?" Mr. Jareth said and scratched his head in confusion and he looked around.
"Just go through the window," Sir Killian said as he scanned the house, "or through the chimney." He said and pointed towards the chimney.
I watched them with my mouth gape in shock. Are we planning to trespass on this peaceful cabin and wreak havoc inside? Now I became a trespasser.
I'm becoming everything I don't want to be with these two around.
To my surprise, Mr. Jareth took Sir Killian's advice seriously and decided to get inside using the window. Seconds later, he was already opening the door and welcomed us inside as if he were the owner of the house.
"Be comfortable, Irine." He said when I went through the door.
"Um, thanks?" I said as I smiled awkwardly at him.
The inside was so homey but it was obvious that nobody lived here for months with the thick dust all over the house. The plants inside were already dead too, thankfully, the plants outside were still alive or I would probably fall into coma caused by depression by the dead plants.
There is a small sofa set in front of a fireplace, a dining table with four chairs, and a small kitchen. There is only one room throughout the whole cabin. It also seems like there is no electricity inside because I haven't seen any electronic device a switch or a socket around the cabin.
When I was about to brush off the dust on the sofa, Mr. Jareth came towards me and pointed his hands towards the sofa, then, a gust of wind swept away all the dust in it. I gaped in amazement as my eyes twinkled.
It must be nice to have such a nice and convenient magic.
I won't get used to this magic no matter how many times they do it in front of me.
"Amazing right?" He said and sat on the sofa.
"That power is convenient." I smiled and sat beside him. "And amazing!"
"Yeah, I wish we could light this fireplace with magic too." He sighed "You should light this later Killian."
"What? You can't?" I asked in confusion. Aren't they supposed to be able to do magic? Supernaturals? They were supposed to be full of magic.
And, if Mr. Jareth can wield wind why can't he, not wield fire?
"We can't. We don't have the magic of fire." He said it as if I was supposed to know it.
He sighed, "I was disappointed when I learned that I can only wield one element. It would be so cool to wield fire! Or! Electricity!" He said in excitement.
"Stop it Jareth." Sir Killian said he was at the dining table with his phone out.
"Come on! You know how overpowered electricity is!"
"Yeah, and Irine is like a lost chicken beside you." Sir Killian said.
Mr. Jareth looked at me and he nodded in understanding. "You must be very confused. Don't worry, I will tell Sir Celestino to explain everything to you later. You can stay confused for now." He said and smiled reassuringly.
I nodded, confused by the whole magic thing and Mr. Jareth in general. I stayed confused and curious then a white cloth was suddenly waved into my face, so close that I almost ate it. I looked up and saw Sir Killian standing in front of me with a white cloth in his hand.
"You look like you swam in your formal wear." He said.
I blushed and looked down at my clothes. I was damp but not wet. Thankfully, it seems like my clothes dried a little with all the running that we did. However, I doubt my clothes will dry if I do run. It will probably soak with my sweat.
"Thank you, sir," I said and grabbed the clothes in his hands.
Well, it seems like Sir Killian does have a gentlemanly side that he hides. I mean, he did carry me throughout the whole travel. And when did he even find these clothes? The last time I looked at him he was busy with his phone.
I went straight to the bedroom. The bedroom is simple, it has a queen-sized bed, one cabinet, and a desk. There is also a huge window that overlooks the mountains.
I changed quickly and went outside to see them arguing in front of the fireplace, Sir Killian holding his lighter and Mr. Jareth holding two wooden sticks.
"This is not the time Jareth." Sir Killian said as if he were scolding a child.
"Let me try it! We'll see if I can light this fireplace with these two sticks!"
"I don't see why we can't just light it using my lighter. This is the easy way."
"I also can't see the reason why I can't light it myself. It's not even that dark yet I could for on this in just a few minutes and viola! A fire straight out of me!" Mr. Jareth stubbornly said.
"Oh god." Sir Killian groaned, "Irine is a human, she'll get cold, especially now that she's wet all over because the barrier decided to let her in!"
I could see the frustration on his face, his eyes glinting with so many things at once. Weird, behind the obvious irritation from Mr. Jareth I could see the worry, anger, frustration, and many more emotions that I could not name.
I felt my heart thumped and felt an invisible warm embrace brace my body. How could someone, so strange, be worried so much about me? A strange woman from his perspective too, I suppose.
"I'm not that cold," I said.
They both looked at me as I walked towards them in my new dried clothes, probably looking fresh out of the shower than from the heavy rain I just crossed.
"See? Let me rub these sticks together!" Mr. Jareth said.
Before he could not do whatever he intended to do, Sir Killian was already in front of the fireplace, a lighter in his right hand and a bunch of dried leaves in his left.
Then the fireplace was lit.
Mr. Jareth was gaping at him in disbelief and disappointment. Looking like a child who didn't get his way with his parent. It will look weird to any adult but Mr. Jareth suited it. Mr. Jareth was still grumbling as we sat in front of the fire. The sun was starting to set, disappearing behind the green mountains as the cold started to envelop us.
