Chapter 19: You guys?!
I squeezed my eyes shut as I fell from the tree. My heart thumped loudly at the thought of me dying.
Before I fell into the hard ground, a gust of wind enveloped me. The wind encircled my falling body which seemed to slow down my fall.
I opened my eyes wide. The circling wind was so clearly seen that I had to blink a few times to wrap my head around what was happening. The wind is so visible as the leaves twirl around me. Above, a gigantic man was falling from the light. I gasped and my eyes almost went out of their pockets.
Sir Killian was falling from the light source pretty fast! With that big body of his, I wondered who should I be worried about, the ground or him.
"Sir Killian!" I shouted as my hands automatically tried to reach out for him.
He turned his head towards me, shock and relief painted all over his face. He then looked below and frowned.
Before I could understand what he was thinking, I was enveloped by warm hands that caught me before I fell into the ground.
I breathed a sigh of relief and looked up to see Mr. Jareth smiling at me. He scanned my face for a moment and frowned.
"Mr. Jareth, I-"
"You're injured." His frown deepen as he stared at my wound.
"What?!" My head turned so fast that my wound ached.
I flinched and saw Sir Killian running towards us, worry etched on his face. Was my wound that bad to make my bosses worry about me? As far as I can remember and feel, it wasn't even that deep, though I was sure it sliced through my skin.
Before I could say a word, I was already being passed to Sir Killian who seems to be overly worried for me. He scanned my face thoroughly and glared at the wound on my forehead.
I blushed deep red as he continued to scan my face his grip on me tightening ever so slightly. I felt tingles explode to where his hands touched and my body wiggled automatically in response.
Why is he carrying me? I would prefer Mr. Jareth who was already looking around the forest to carry me instead of Sir Killian.
I managed to move my hands and tried to push his chest away, trying to make some distance between us as I tried to ignore the tingles in my palms. My push was nothing to him. He stood there like a sturdy wall.
I gaped at him and tried to push him again, this time with all the strength that I can master. He didn't even move an inch. My attempts to create a distance between us backfired as he pulled me closer to him.
I flushed a deeper red as tingles exploded throughout my body. How can he not even flinch? My strength was one of the things that I was so proud of, even though it brought me so much trouble. I can push a big man away from me with ease! How can Sir Killian not even move?
"Sir, I can walk," I said, almost stuttering as I stared into his deep blue eyes that resembled the ocean.
"I'm not sure you can, given the amount of scratches on your feet." He frowned, his eyes full of worry as he scanned my feet, that's quite exposed because my shoes gave up on me on my adventure in these forests.
"I'm also not sure if you can carry me around in these woods." I flustered, I'm aware of my weight. I'm pretty heavy and I don't want him to get exhausted when I can walk perfectly. "I don't think we're getting out of here soon"
"Don't worry Irine, Killian can carry us two without sweating if he wants to." Mr. Jareth smiled at me before grinning at Sir Killian. "Can you carry me too? Your back is still free."
I gaped at him in shock and turned to look at the irritated Sir Killian who was burning Mr. Jareth with his hateful glare. Will we be okay with Mr. Jareth constantly getting on Sir Killian's nerves?
I felt Sir Killian's hands at the back of my head and he gently pulled my face closer to his chiseled chest. My heart beat erratically in my chest I swear I can hear it. My face which was already red might just produce smoke that may help us get found in these woods.
I strengthen my neck so hard to not get my face splashed in his chest. Why was he doing this?! He was glaring at me the whole morning! Is this okay? Surely not! My boss carrying me in bridal style in the middle of the forest is just not normal!
He frowned and looked down at me. I stared at him wide-eyed.
Hello sir? Put me down will you?
"Sleep. You look exhausted." He said as if me sleeping with him as my bed is the most normal thing.
"Put me down, sir." I squeaked and wiggled, trying to untangle his octopus grip on me.
As I wiggled, an explosion of tingles surrounded my body. I tried not to gasp at the sensation and continued with my worm-like moves in an attempt to escape from his grip.
"Stop it." He looked at me as if I'm some child throwing tantrums.
I gaped at him in disbelief. I exhaled an exasperated sigh. There's no way I'm getting out of this man's arms. I guess I'll just have to be stuck in his arms while trying not to jump from those weird tingles.
"Where are we?" Sir Killian asked Mr. Jareth who was still looking around the woods.
"I'm guessing that we're somewhere in Europe." He said and smiled at us.
"We are in Europe?!" I asked, shock and disbelief written all over my face.
They both looked at me, their eyes were a mixture of worry and uncertainty. It seems like they were worried about my reaction to all of these magical out-of-the-world situations.
I looked away. This past few days, I've been encountering things that I haven't seen before. The ghost that scared the shit out of me, me teleporting in Europe, and my bosses just being strange in general.
It's not that I'm not surprised and all, I am very shocked. Who wouldn't be if you were suddenly teleported to some unknown woods?
My bosses are strange, yes. With all that chaos of me being able to read a fantasy book, all the commotion from those certain guests, those old-looking papers that they somewhat have, and Mr. Jareth just popping out of nowhere.
My bosses are strange, but I am strange too.
With my inhuman strength, as my aunt called it. I knew that something was wrong with me. I won't be able to forget the horrid look on my aunt's face when I crushed that dining table of ours when I threw a tantrum in third grade.
She was looking at me like I was a monster, and so I believed it.
Deep inside me, I knew that there is also something out there, much stranger and much more dangerous than me. A monster hidden among the humans.
And there they are, working in a big company like they were normal. Like they weren't monsters, like me.
Am I surprised? Not really.
Am I afraid? A little.
I actually feel a little bit relieved. Maybe, these people are not monsters. And maybe I won't have to be that monster.
"You are strangely calm about all of this." Sir Killian said as he looked at me with his deep blue eyes, observing my face.
"Oh well," I shrugged. "We got to be calm in strange times, don't we?" I said and smiled at him.
His stare lingered on my face for a moment before turning to Mr. Jareth. "Can we teleport here?" He asked.
He was not hiding it anymore.
"I'm afraid we cannot." Mr. Jareth looked at me, seemingly analyzing me. "Irene here is human and she may not withstand being teleported again."
"Her aura is already bleak. And she only teleported once." He continued, worry etched on his face.
"We cannot risk it." Sir Killian grumbled as his grip on me tighten.
My brows furrowed in confusion. What? Can they sense aura? I didn't know aura was a thing. My aura must be looking bad then.
"I suggest that we wait until tomorrow morning before we teleport again. She may recover her energy then." Mr. Jareth smiled at me.
"We have to get out of this woods." Sir Killian said.
The next thing I know, we were already running through the woods at an incredible speed. My vision was blurry because of how fast they are.
I had no choice but to hug Sir Killian's neck for dear life! I will surely die if I slip into his arms! He is faster than any sports car I've seen!
