An Unfamilliar Forest

Chapter 18: An Unfamiliar Forest

I groaned in pain as my butt hit the ground with a loud thud. Thankfully, it was my butt that hit the ground and not my head. I don't want to die yet when I haven't even discovered my boss's secrets! And I haven't even got my first pay yet As far as I can observe, with my intelligence that competes with AI, I am sure that there is something sketchy about my bosses. Heck! Even the company is sketchy!

Why would a well-known company, around the world, establish its headquarters in the middle of an old town that is around a big ass forest that I am now lost in!?

And what was that light?!

I'm sure it teleported me! It just teleported me!

I can't believe I just got teleported by some strange white light that seems to be the gates of heaven! A week ago I would have been teleported by my aunt outside of the apartment and now I'm being teleported by a strange light that I thought was already fetching my soul!

Horrified, I pinch and touched my face to make sure that I'm still in my body and I'm not just a soul sprawled to the ground like a starfish that is lost in the forest.

If I didn't bump at that weird ass tree branch that popped out of nowhere I would probably already be at the dorm lazing around while reading or watching some movies. That must be it right?! The branch must have been the trigger to this weird ass situation!

It isn't raining here. The soil is moist but it doesn't look like the rain has been here at all. I'm probably really far from the town or I might not even be at Drifida. The trees around me seems smaller and different too.

Me not being at Drifida is the worst-case scenario. Though in this situation it is probably the one closest to the truth.

I'm dead.

"Hello!" I shouted as I tried to sit down, feeling nauseous from that teleportation thing.

My voice echoed deep into the forest. Shouting is probably a bad idea. I probably attracted every kind of danger that can possibly kill me in this forest.

I groaned and stood up, holding unto a tree for support.

Around me is a luscious green forest. The trees are much smaller but higher. All the grass and ferns are the biggest I've seen in my life. The old trees are covered with moss and almost the entire forest is covered with thick fog.

It doesn't look like someone will pass by here anytime. My chances of getting found are probably as low as the chance of me winning the lottery. I can't see past the thick forest. There is no sign of civilization near me. The only light source that I can see is the full bright moonlight.

There was no path around me. Nothing that I can follow that will hopefully lead me somewhere. The trees, however, were tall and seemed easy to climb. I'm no expert at climbing trees but I may have been an expert in climbing ladders and windows. I pretty much just climb my way down the building whenever I want to get away from the apartment when I was a rebellious teenager.

Even though it has been years since I practiced this expertise of mine and my expertise was not tree climbing, I believe that I can easily pull it off as long as I can grab something to pull myself up.

I walked around and looked for a taller tree. The one that is easy to climb and is dry enough for me to not slip and fall to my death.

Hopefully, I can see more up above the tree. And it must be safer above than below, right? Most of the wild animals that I know can't climb trees, except for bears though.

There are no bears here, right?

I can tell that I'm in a pretty tall tree when I made it at a high point. I sat at its thick branch as I look around me. The forest seems to stretch for miles. I can't see any proof of a person living anywhere near here.

Where in the hell in Drifida I am? That teleportation portal did a job on me huh. Teleporting me to a forest of all the places around the world. It could have teleported me to Japan, I would love to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Or it could have teleported me to some city where I can at least get help. But no, it decided to teleport me in the middle of an unknown forest.

It's not that I know some forests.

I sat and leaned my back towards the tree. The setting sun is clearly visible in this place. Thankfully, I got to the top of the tree in no time. It's probably already dark below, with the tall trees covering the sun.

Relaxing at the branch of a tree. I recalled the things that transpired before I was sucked by that white light that teleported me.

I was walking home because I didn't catch the bus, thanks to those week loads of paperwork. As if my situation of me walking home wasn't already bad, the heavy rain started to pour and I was struck by that weird ass branch that seems like it teleported in front of me.

I touched my forehead and instantly winced when I accidentally touched the wound. The blood seems to be dried now. I won't have to worry about losing too much blood.

Then I was just lost and then I was already deep into the forest. Which! Is super weird. I didn't even take that many steps! I'm positive that I encountered something fishy. And there are those illuminated mushrooms too! Those were not natural at all! I think. Or is there a glowing mushroom? And then someone called me!

Sir Killian!

I heard him shout! He told me to stay put. Which of course I did, don't wanna get fired by my boss. But that light sucked me in the minutes I stayed put! I probably should have run to his voice though.

Ugh, Irene, you make all the wrong choices.

But the good news is, Sir Killian knows that I'm missing and that I was sucked by that teleportation magic. He did see me get sucked by that light right?

Or did he not?

I groaned and shut my eyes close. This is so frustrating. And here I was trying to keep my cool with all this weird shit happening around me.

I'm so dead.

Why is this happening to me?! I just wanted a normal office life. With the work overloads, work gossip, and work nights. This is probably at the top of my list of the worst job that I got.

Don't get me wrong, the job is good, my bosses are nice, the environment is the best, and the pay is at the top, but! The weird things that started to happen as I stay here are just the worst!

First the ghost, and now I'm teleported to god knows where. Probably in some weird ass place too.

As I complain in my mind, a sudden burst of light appeared before me.

I flinched, too hard.

The next thing I know I was already falling at the tallest tree I've ever climbed in my entire life!

Now, who just teleported here? I wondered as I watch a figure falling from the burst of light.

Is this light another teleportation magic or is this really the heavens calling for me?
