CHAPTER 14: FOURTEETH HOUR

After we kidnapped Scarman, it was down to brutal questioning. At first, he was playing hardball and was acting like a tough Alpha male, who thinks he has what it takes to take punishment from Jackson. He did try to hang on, but after three minutes, he was singing like a canary. We then did more research and background checks on the information he was giving us and I have to say, it put things into perspective as we found out that the unknowns were using some professionals within different industries to blackmail them into doing their bidding. One such individual was Mr Jones and with this information, I can finally find a way to stop Bakari and the unknowns from taking over the criminal narcotics underworld. I needed to meet Clarise and her husband and sort out this issue before it spreads like cancer. The first order of business is to first protect Mr Jones from the grip of the unknowns. This time I sent Jackson to tail him as me, Joe and Kenneth investigated Mr Jones and his connections to the unknowns.

Meanwhile, I gave Layla a task to investigate Akili the info broker and find out anything that he may know about the trafficking that is happening within the land port and also within the five-star hotels that were linked to both Frank and Mr Cruz, plus the building that Frank didn't want to design because of its tie in with the unknowns.

The next day I went to visit Clarise again and I wanted to understand more about Jones and his whereabouts. She then started to tell me about how Mr jones has been misbehaving and that he has been acting strange since his last convention. After every two years medical practitioners of all types come together and discuss the medical industry, meet medical engineers and other inventors on the latest technology and trends and talk about the growth of medicine for a better future. This was something that Jones was looking forward to but after the convention, he came back a changed man.

From the information given, I decided to send it to Kenneth to look further, but this time I would accompany him, to continue his usual sleuthing. At first, I thought he would oppose it and realised that something was wrong, but he turned out to be very happy and felt like he needed me to be together with him.

"This is gonna be awesome boss dude," Ken said enthusiastically. We are gonna be badass cowboys just like before."

"Hold your horses, don't get too cocky and overly excited," I stated calmly, we have to be very careful.

We started to investigate the list of attendees that went to the convention. I intended to find any of the unknown agents we got your information on, after attacking one of their bases and also if any important figures were connected to the unknowns. After perusing through some of the information, Kenneth found Daudi Chacha's name and Also Cruz Limited presented in the information as an investor company.

There was an underground actioning program, where the rich elite were betting on illegal pharmaceuticals and one of the drugs that were presented there were drugs that was repurposed as a drug that can be used to take down your enemies without them realizing it. It was initially a drug that was used to cure people of very tough diseases that can affect their lungs and heart. It was a wonder drug and it was developed by Jones.

He had cracked the initial stages of making the drug work but he only needed money from investors to realize his dream. He can make the promise to her mother and himself of making sure that people who suffer from cardiovascular diseases won't suffer as much and could easily get access to the drug considering the accessibility of people getting medication has become difficult due to how expensive it can be.

All that hard work he was seeing first-hand being treated like a weapon and sold to the highest bidder. His drug was turned into a weapon. This made him feel depressed and had no choice but to take measures in his own hands. He started to slowly report the unknowns to the police. At first, he was spotted until his case reached Johnson and Michael.

 Chacha was there to poach for new highly valued businessmen and later decided to make Mr Jones one of his clients, who wasn't of great affluence but was able to someone to join the law firm. But it so turns out later own when Unknowns started to notice Mr jones, Jones himself decided to go to Chacha for some legal advice. When Jones then meets Chacha again, Daudi then gives him subpar advice that doesn't reassure Mr Jones. This is when Mr Jones noticed that Daudi was part of the unknowns, especially when he stated the unknowns catchphrase, which is something that Daudi recognised when he was talking to one of the employees of Cruz Industries.

"Well Mr Jones, You don't have a strong case to take down Cruz and his company, so have to make a deal with them," Chacha stated convincingly.

"One thing you need to understand Mr Chacha is that I don't compromise with anyone, especially when it comes to work," Mr Jones stated firmly.

"Well Mr jones, this time you have to bend your own rules a little, take what you can and crush what is remaining," Said Mr. Chacha enthusiastically.

Mr jones was shocked by Chacha's statement when he realised that even his lawyer was corrupt and compromised. He had no choice but to collect his composure and find another way. Daudi though realized he was made and threatened Mr jones that if he continued his reputation would be tarnished and he would be a pariah to society. He was also told that his wife would die if he continued to snoop around where she was not wanted.

That's when Mr Jones had a call about Lisa returning to the office by his unknown agent, after hearing Lisa enter her office since it was bugged. Daudi then walks out Mr Jones and tells him to remember what is at stake, if he wants to continue fighting Cruz. Mr Jones left distraught and couldn't believe his life's work as been tarnished to that level of extent. He decides to keep most of the things secret and it pained not only him but his wife.

Returning home, Mr jones realized that his entire house was bugged with both camera's and listening devices and that he has no chance of stopping the unknowns. That's when me, Kenneth and the gang hatch a plan to help Mr Jones. First, I had to meet with Clarise in the office again and then inform her to rope Mr jones into a disclosed location where the unknowns haven't cast their shadows yet. Next, I then present Mr jones with the evidence we gathered about the drugs and how he lost control of it. Then I told Mr Jones and Clarise to move to Taj City, where they would be under police witness protection under the DBI and then stay there for a while until everything was cleared. This will help secure both of them and to not raise suspension, they pretended that they were on a long overdue holiday. We then initiated the plan to make it happen and then Mr jones became adamant about not leaving his work, and his life behind for a new one and that he was ready to fight.

I had to reassure him that he would continue with his work, especially considering his idea was discovered by Dr Miles Emerald who wanted to work with Mr Jones. I also told him that he would get his drug back and begin to help the patients he has always wanted to help. The plan was then set in motion

and it was going smoothly until the hiccups started to arrive.

The unknowns started to notice that the cameras they set up in Mr Jones's home were in a recorded loop and that the bugs were just picking sounds and conversations that were already recorded beforehand. The unknowns also had spies at the hospital and they were also monitoring the two individuals. It was then that they realized they had been spotted and they had to take action. This then turned into a cat-and-mouse chase to secure the safety of the couple's safe passage. I also told Alice to reduce the number of people who knew about the protection detail as her unit might be compromised, and she didn't believe it until we got into a fight at the safe house where we were preparing to take the couple to Taj City. Turns out the security detail that Alice had was a spy working for the unknowns. The security of the couple was becoming less secure and I wasn't going to let anyone die.
