Message from an unknown number

[At first, let me apologize for updating very late. Due to some unavoidable circumstances lately, I wasn't able to connect to the internet. I am having issues being online because of the bad connection. But I hope it will be gone soon. Thankfully I was able to connect today and decided to update. Though the connection is poor I'll update more chapters soon when the connection is more stable. Thanks for your patience and for being with me.]

It was a long day and by the time Eve returned to her dorm it was already evening. In the afternoon when the class ended she and Emily went to the library for a group study.

After the incident in the restroom both her sleepiness and drowsiness flew out of the window but she was not able to focus on either of the classes. Thankfully Emily was such a bubbly character who helped Eve to have her focus back and explained everything that was taught today in their group study.

After the group study, Emily asked her about how she ended up being Victor's research assistant and she told her about the morning walk incident. After hearing everything she was unimpressed and advised her to share everything if she ever got in trouble with Victor.

Now that she was back exhaustion took over her again. She dropped the bag to the side and plopped down on the bed. She stayed like that for a while. Her mind replayed today's incidents and she closed her eyes when remembered the gory scenes and people's agonizing screams.

When she remembered Victor's words her eyes snapped open and a small smile appeared on her lips. She sat upright and got down from the bed and opened the window of the lakeside.

The view today was breathtaking. There was a crescent moon in the sky which was reflecting on the water surface of the lake and casting a silvery glow everywhere.

She closed her eyes when the gentle breeze blew in her way and caressed her face. Her forest green eyes took in the view with awe but failed to notice that she was being watched.

Someone was sitting on a branch of an old tree watching her. It was Victor. He had a hunch from the first that Eve had something peculiar about her. That's why he was keeping an eye on her. But from today's incident, he had an inkling that she is no mere human. What she saw was a glimpse of the tragic past.

Today he went to the archive of the university and checked on Eve's records. There was nothing he could find more about her other than the basic information. He learned that she was an orphan and from St. Peter's Scholar's Garden orphanage. He sent one of his trusted fellows to get more information about her and about the place where she lived.

Her soft features were highlighted under the moonlight and the beauty of her forest-green eyes was more prominent. He was looking at her and suddenly an idea popped into his head and his lips curled. He took out his phone from his jacket pocket started typing a message and sent it to Eve's number.

When he was checking her records he found her phone number there. Eve was enjoying the view but her eyes snapped towards her phone when it beeped.

She grabbed it from the table beside the window and saw a message on the display. It was from an unknown number which said- "What are you looking at so attentively?" As Eve doesn't have Victor's number saved on her phone it came as an unknown number.

A frown came upon her face after reading it. "Who are you? And how do you know what I'm doing?" She texted back. After some time she received a message again which said, "It's not important to know who I am. What is important for you to know is you're being watched."

Her eyes widened after reading this. What on earth was happening with her? As if she was swimming in the sea of troubles. She screamed internally.

"Are you the same person who sent me the warning letter yesterday?" She typed and sent it guessing this unknown person could be the same one who sent her the letter. Victor frowned when he received the message.

He sent her a message again which said - "For your kind information I'm not the person whom you're guessing me to be. Care to share what the letter says? "

"Why should I share when I don't know who you are?" She replied. He smirked in amusement seeing her response. "Then why you're talking with me when you don't know who I am?" He texted her back with a rolling eyes emoji.

When she saw the text her lips pursed thinking about blocking the number but before she could do anything another text came immediately: "Don't you dare think about blocking this number. If you do so there is a penalty waiting for you."

Seeing the person could read her mind, her eyes widened as if they would bulge out of their sockets. Eve was getting so much nervous about what to do after seeing it.

"Why? What will you do?" She typed and sent it.

Victor was watching her replies in amusement. "Curious, aren't we?", he murmured then texted, "If I can watch your every move and tell what you're doing or what you're thinking, just think about, what I can do to you other than that." When Eve received the response she gulped.

"Okay, I won't block you. But at least please tell me, how can you see me what I'm doing right now? Are you outside at this moment?" She sent the message and looked outside the window looking for the person. After a while, came a response- "Yes."

"Huh, just yes?" She murmured, disappointed with the short reply. Then she texted, "Are you a boy or a girl?", and sent it.

Sometimes later she received a response that said - "That's enough chit-chat for today. It's already near the curfew time so go and sleep. But keep your windows open with lights on and stay awake if you wish to serve detention tomorrow."

Eve rolled her eyes after reading the response. She looked out and searched for the person one last time but couldn't find anyone. She closed her windows and then pulled the curtains.

After she closed her windows Victor jumped down from the branch. A smug smile played on his lips as he went to his dorm. He surely does know how to kill the curiosity of a curious cat.

After freshening up and changing into pajamas Eve went to bed and turned the lights off. Soon she drifted off to sleep but no nightmares came. So she slept soundly for the rest of the night unaware of what awaits in the future.
