Between Blood and Business

The low, continuous sound of the office air conditioner made a nice background, and I sat at my desk studying the new layouts of Ferguson's house.

We had not seen the twins for almost eight weeks now and it had been two months since the eventful night that we thought they would arrive early.

Fortunately, it was merely a false alarm, but it must be said that it brought our preps up to full speed nonetheless.

Now, at 37 weeks, I was officially on maternity leave but I would come to work a couple of times in a week. It made me feel like a real woman yet again as everything else was surrounded by the circles of preparation for the baby.

There was a knock on my office door which brought me back from the cloudy state. "Come in," I said out loud forgetting that it could be anyone ranging from Lucas to maybe even Emily, who I had seen much more frequently than before.
