Back In History

Once inside, her grandma suggested they talked over dinner, as it would be a long conversation. Settling down after dinner had been served, Ember was anxious to know what it was her Nana wanted to talk to her about. At least she could ascertain that it had something to do with her dreams, but she didn't know what it was yet. "Our lineage, right from the beginning of time, always had unique abilities." Began her grandma, in a rather serious tone that before. Ember loved stories, and she enjoyed being told history, so she was eager to hear this one; the bonus was it had to do with her family too, so she paid attention to every word. "It was a primitive era, where humans had just begin to set out, separating themselves into factions, and settling amongst people with similar interest. Initially all humans lived together in a vast settlement, sharing things amongst themselves like it should be. But things began to change when the population increased significantly. There was constant shortage of food, and war broke out frequently amidst the people. The people were forced to find their parts as individuals, some in groups, as the expanse of land they occupied together was no longer enough for them. Our ancestor then, moved out with his own party in search of a new home, a place to settle. They toured for days, as newbie adventurers who had never left their settlement before, wandering toward the east, carefully and cautiously. After days, or months of wandering, they finally arrived at a place, where they deemed fit to settle, and make their home. There was celebrations in the camp, when it was announced that their days of wandering about were finally over. The people rejoiced and even their leader felt fulfilled, having accomplished this great feat of establishing his own village. Little did they know that their joy would be short lived, as where they had decided to settle, was home to a creature…" Her grandmother paused, took a bite out of the food in front of her, and then continued again. "This creature, known for its barbarity was not quickly noticed on time by the joyful villagers.  It happened that after a while, a child would go missing from the village, and then even adults began disappearing. Puzzled by the turn out of events, the villagers gathered in a meeting, to decide how they were going to put an end to the sudden disappearance of people. Virtually every single home had lost a person or two, and the whole village was affected. It was treated as a matter of urgency, as the once lively village had now become a shadow of its self, where even adults were afraid to move around in the night." No one knew what had happened to all those people, or how they had disappeared. After a few more unusual disappearance, a connection was made to all other disappearance. These people all vanished on the night of a full moon. They were a step closer to solving this mystery, but they were still not happy. Whatever took their people had caused them too much pain, that it had stolen their happiness too. Everyone learnt not to walk around on the night of a full moon, and peace returned to the village. The villagers stopped missing, and the village was becoming lively once again. But it was for a moment, as tragedy struck, more brutally this time around. Apparently whatever had been taking these people had become addicted to it, and with the new knowledge of the villagers, it had been starved for too long, and they were definitely going to feel its wrath. The next full moon came, and everyone was agitated. Movement was reduced to its barest minimum, and all doors were shut. Then

Came the night, when the moon shone brightly, in its full glory and splendor, which was the moment tragedy struck. The village was assailed by a creature, and only a few houses were left untouched. The morning sun came the next day, shining brightly on the gory sight. It was a bloodbath, the village would never recover from. Wailing and distant cries could be heard from the next house, and every man was bothered

With his own problem. The village was plunged into another bout of mourning, and the coming days after the incident were the worst. The entire community was in a standstill, the village head was confused, and afraid…why would this happen. Most of those that caught a sight of the creature were dead, some others that it didn't kill were petrified that they never recovered, and were not able to able to talk about what they saw. Things could not go on like this… this could not continue. Something had to be done to curb this occurrences once and for all, but no one was courageous to go looking for the beast, not to talk of confronting it. Sadly, they waited patiently for the next full moon, resigning to faith. Most families mustered the courage to move away from the settlement, before the last one of them would be destroyed, while the others who thought they had lost too much already, resigned to faith and stayed there anyway. The next full moon came like every other night, cold and bright, the villagers shut their doors in terror. This creature came as usual, in its menacing manner, heading for the nearest house. "Bang!!!" the sound of a gunshot was heard from a distance, a teenage boy was in view, with a Dane gun in his hand. The beast grunted and stopped in its tracks, but didn't seem hurt. It turned to face the direction where the shot came from, its green eyes shining under the litted sky. "Bang!!! Bang!!!" The boy fired two more shots, hoping that the beast would just drop dead. As if being energized by the shots, it charged toward the boy, slashing his throats, in an instant, with a speed that shocked those that dared to peek through their window. The boy had lost his family to the beasts attack, and he had nothing else to live for. He had vowed to kill the beast, even if it would take life out of him in the process. His rage had turned to fear at the face of death; when the beast charged toward him, he noticed a silver lining around the beast's neck, something like a necklace. Some few others too had noticed it, as that was the first time they would see the creature for that long. It ran away the instant it killed the boy, leaving his body there in a pool of blood. Even after the beast had left, the people still hesitated to come out of their houses till it was morning. Burying the child properly when morning came, the people felt empowered by his actions, and with the knowledge they had, they now possessed an advantage over this creature. Forging bullets from silver, they earnestly wanted for the next full moon, hoping to end this terror, once and for all. This was the first time in a long while they had eagerly anticipated the coming of a full moon. The night came like every other night, and the men brave enough to take up the task positioned themselves strategically at various points in the village.
