This was the first time in a long while they had eagerly anticipated the coming of a full moon. The night came like every other night, and the men brave enough to take up the task positioned themselves strategically at various points in the village. They waited for what seemed like forever, hoping silently that it would turn out right. They had placed their hopes in a hunch. A mere speculation from what they had seen that night, and the inscription of the floor. The brave kid, at the brink of death wrote the words 'Silver Bullets' on the ground.
A sharp sound came from a distance, signaling the arrival of the beast. The men sprung to their feet, the sleepy ones more alert than ever before. Eyes widened, guns ready, they waited patiently as it drew closer to them. They still had the element of surprise to their advantage, and they didn't want to lose it. For all they knew, the crazy animal had insane speed and if it knew of their plans there was no stopping it. The beast approached cautiously, as if sensing the aloofness in the air. Targeting the first house, closest to the entrance of the village, it dashed forward.
Ember was all chills at this moment. She had been so engrossed that she didn't realize she held her breath. She still couldn't find the relationship between her dreams and this story Nana was narrating, but she was already hooked. They had finished eating for quite a while now, but were still at the dining. Any distractions would ruin the brilliant atmosphere.
"Don't stop, I'm enjoying it; although I don't see how it relates to my dreams though" She voiced, noticing her grandma pause to watch her movements.
"Hmm, you'll see the correlations soon" Nana retorted continuing her story.
With the speed of wind, and strength like nothing they've seen before, it charged toward the house bringing it down with one strike. The scenery sent shivers down spine. Beads of sweat formed on their chins amidst the coldness of the night, and even the bravest of them was sore afraid. But they couldn't stop now. The memories of loved ones they've lost to its vicious attacks haunted them, and until they took revenge, they would not be satisfied. In a swift move fueled by anger and fear of the unknown, someone mustered the courage to take the first shot. The great beast stopped in its tracks. The sound of the gun had alerted it, and it reacted just in time to escape what could have been its death. The bullet grazed past it, but the momentum with which it passed left the animal injured. It grunted as blood seeped from its wound, just below the thigh and a little above its knee. Blood!!! Yes!!! That was all the confirmation they needed. Silver bullets worked! But the battle was far from over now. In fact, they had to be more serious if they wanted to finish it off completely this time. Its foot was significantly weakened, and though unlike before, it still possessed an insane amount of strength and speed. Readying itself for its next charge, it turned to face the direction from which the bullet came. Scared for his life, the man who had shot it ran out of his hiding place, towards the nearest house to seek abode.
The animal covered the distance between itself and the fleeing figure in one swift moment. The others watched fearfully as it caught up with him, knocking him to the ground with one strike. He shouldn't have come out of hiding, but this was no time for regret. Sensing the presence of more people, the beast paused momentarily, standing over the unconscious figure of the man who had dared to injure it. It growled, becoming more angry and impatient with each passing second. Remaining still for a while, it gave some of them the chance to have a clean shot. Since it was too fast, they resulted to firing simultaneously so if it dodged one, another would hit. About five shots were fired at once, while the rest followed. Shrieking, it dropped to the ground beside its previous victim.
'A glimmer of hope; the beast was down. Had they won? Was this the end of this season of terror?' different thoughts coursed through the village heads mind, sitting where he was positioned. He was plagued with mixed feelings. It was his son who had injured the beast at first, and all he could do now was to hope for his safety. He had lost his first son, his heir to the beast in the past, when it attacked their home. Bravely facing it, even when he knew he wouldn't win, his son had died tragically. He had accepted his fate that time, but losing another son would be too great for him to bear. They remained in their hiding place for what seemed like eternity. Waiting for who would first check out the body of the beast. No one dared to step out, for all they knew the beast was full of surprises. Surprisingly, the kid who had been knocked down by the creature regain consciousness and opened his eyes to the sight of the beast that fell beside him.
He shrieked, confused as to how the beast got beside him. "Was it dead?" he thought to himself, struggling hastily to get up. What happened…? Where was everybody? He muttered weakly, trying to process the situation. He was surprised as to how he had survived the animals blow. Now standing on his feet, he took a closer look at the animal, before slowly moving away. In what seemed like split seconds, he heard the sounds of gun fire, and felt a sharp pain on his neck. With teary eyes, he dropped to the ground, blood spurting from the wound on his neck. He sank back into unconsciousness and the last image on his mind was his father, who had fired the gun.
