Xia Fanxing had been signaling Mu Hanchen to say something.
But he remained silent.
Xia Fanxing had no alternative but to speak herself, "Grandma, about the child, I think..."
By then, Grandma Mu had already made up her mind, not giving Xia Fanxing a chance to refuse, "Alright, that settles it. From today on, you two will live in the old house. When you're pregnant, then you can go back to your own home. I'm tired, I'm going upstairs to rest for a bit. Fanxing, help me up, would you?"
Seeing that Grandma Mu's complexion wasn't good, Xia Fanxing didn't dare to contradict her and stretched out her hand to help her upstairs.
Once in the room, Grandma Mu kept coughing, clearly not feigning illness, but genuinely unwell.
Xia Fanxing tenderly poured her a glass of warm water, "Grandma, here, drink some water to soothe your throat."
Grandma Mu took the water and drank a few sips; it did seem to make her throat much more comfortable.
Then, she took Xia Fanxing's hand, her voice filled with affection, "Fanxing, rest assured, even if I die, I absolutely won't let Achen leave you."
Xia Fanxing felt a sting at her nose and gripped her hand tightly, anxiously saying, "Grandma, don't say that, you'll surely live a long and healthy life."
Grandma Mu, however, sighed softly, "Silly child, how many people in this world can really live to be a hundred years old? But I haven't lived in vain so far; at least I've seen Achen marry you. Handing him over to you, I feel relieved. My only regret might be that I don't know if I can wait until your child is born."
Xia Fanxing really couldn't bear to deceive Grandma Mu, and after much hesitation, she finally spoke, "Grandma, about the child, the two of us might really..."
Before she could finish, Grandma Mu interrupted, "Actually, I know all about what happened on your birthday."
On Xia Fanxing's birthday, she had sent someone over with a gift, and they had just happened to see Mu Hanchen rushing out of the house.
A further investigation had revealed the whole story.
Xia Fanxing had indeed been wronged.
What kind of married man ignores his own wife's birthday, only to meet with another woman?
Even if Xia Fanxing hadn't said anything, she was not one to swallow such an insult.
"Even if Liang Chuchu returned to the country, she can't shake your position. No matter what Achen thinks, I only recognize you as my granddaughter-in-law."
"When she saw Achen unconscious and not waking up, she was scared, not even bothering to notify anyone before fleeing abroad, as if afraid that the Mu Family would drag her down."
"Now that she knows nothing serious happened to Achen, she wants to come back and reap the benefits, which is simply delusional!"
A woman who couldn't stand by her grandson through thick and thin, she would never consent to them being together, even in death!
Xia Fanxing had not expected the old lady to be aware of what happened on her birthday.
Could she also know about her desire to get a divorce?
Suddenly, Grandma Mu coughed uncomfortably a few more times.
Xia Fanxing snapped back to reality, her face full of concern as she urged, "Grandma, you keep coughing like this, it will be too much for your body to handle. Let me take you to the hospital for a check-up."
Grandma Mu shook her head, seemingly indifferent, "No need, it's an old problem. Going to the hospital for a check-up won't make a difference, I'll just take some medicine later."
But her gaze was firm as she said, "So, Fanxing, don't worry about Liang Chuchu. As long as you and Achen are happy and have a baby, Grandma will be completely content."
Seeing this, Xia Fanxing didn't dare to bring up her wish for a divorce.
In this situation, she could only take it one step at a time.
She stayed with Grandma Mu a little longer and after seeing her fall asleep, Xia Fanxing left quietly.
Downstairs, Elder Master Mu had returned from outside and was talking with Mu Hanchen about something.
"Where's grandma?"
"She's not feeling well, Fanxing accompanied her upstairs to rest."
"Your grandma hasn't been feeling well recently, and the check-ups haven't revealed anything. You need to be careful not to do anything outrageous that might upset her, otherwise I won't let you off easy!"
Mu Hanchen frowned displeasedly, "What have I done?"
He couldn't understand what he had done to make both his grandmother and himself so dissatisfied.
Elder Master Mu asked angrily, "Has Liang Chuchu come back?"
"Yes."
"Did you go to the airport to pick her up yourself?"
"Yes."
Elder Master Mu clenched his fists, "Lost your mind, have you? Do you not remember how Liang Chuchu treated you back then? Yet you actually went to the airport to meet her. What are you trying to do, rekindle an old flame?"
Mu Hanchen's brows furrowed deeper, "Nothing happened between Liang Chuchu and me."
Elder Master Mu spoke out of sheer exasperation, "You better make sure that nothing has happened, otherwise you will have let down both me, your grandma, and Fanxing!"
Mu Hanchen was somewhat at a loss for words; he clearly hadn't done anything except pick up Liang Chuchu from the airport, yet it seemed he had committed a grave offense.
Just as he was about to explain, Xia Fanxing came down the stairs.
Elder Master Mu also heard the sound, and his angry expression softened into a smile as he said, "Fanxing, you're here."
"Yes, grandfather," Xia Fanxing greeted demurely.
Then Elder Master Mu spoke with a smile, "I've had the butler get your room ready. Tonight, you and Achen can just move right in."
"I'll go upstairs to check on your grandma. You two have a chat."
Faced with an awkward situation, Xia Fanxing thought about how she had been discussing divorce with Mu Hanchen in the morning but in the afternoon she had been arranged to move into the old house, sharing a room.
But she had always slept in separate rooms from Mu Hanchen!
