Chapter 13 Believe It or Not

Xia Fanxing unnaturally averted her gaze, as she did not want Mu Hanchen to notice that she was sneaking glances at him.

It was so embarrassing.

But it seemed that Mu Hanchen had no intention of letting her off the hook, "Come here and help me dry my hair."

Xia Fanxing stood up and habitually took the hairdryer he handed her, just as she was about to press the button, she suddenly realized something was amiss.

Why was she so obediently helping him dry his hair?

She should be keeping her distance from him now!

"What are you standing there cold for, blow it?" Mu Hanchen was growing a bit impatient.

Xia Fanxing's heart sank, and she returned the hairdryer to him, "Dry it yourself."

She used to see him come out of the shower, using only a towel to rub his hair carelessly a couple of times, not even drying it thoroughly, which easily could catch a cold.

Worried about his health, she took the initiative to offer drying his hair for him.

He did not refuse.

So one thing led to another, and it became a habit.

But now, in their current situation,

Mu Hanchen was a bit unhappy, "What's wrong with you now?"

She wouldn't cook for him, nor would she dry his hair.

Did she so desire to sever ties with him?

Xia Fanxing lowered her eyes, her voice indifferent as she spoke, "I think it's better if we keep our distance. We can put on an act in front of Grandpa and Grandma, but otherwise, let's not interfere with each other."

"Oh, and Liang Chuchu called you while you were showering, you might want to call her back later."

She did not want Mu Hanchen to think she deliberately answered his call in secret without telling him.

Mu Hanchen was not interested in Liang Chuchu's call.

He felt it necessary to have a proper talk with Xia Fanxing.

But before he could speak, his phone rang again.

Whatever was said on the other end, Mu Harchen's expression grew more and more severe.

The moment he hung up, his gaze towards Xia Fanxing also carried a hint of sharpness, "What did you say to Liang Chuchu on the phone?"

Xia Fanxing sensed his grim expression, but she honestly replied, "I didn't say much, just told her you were showering and that you'd call her back later, what's wrong?"

"She attempted suicide."

"What!"

Xia Fanxing's heart lurched with disbelief, could it be that because of her few words, she had attempted suicide?

That was taking one's life far too lightly.

But from the look on Mu Hanchen's face, he seemed not quite willing to believe she had said only those few words.

He did not say anything more, though. Quickly changing clothes and grabbing his car keys, he left the bedroom in haste.

Elder Mu from the next room heard the commotion and wrapped himself in a coat to investigate, just in time to see Mu Hanchen descending the stairs.

Realizing something was wrong, he immediately called out to stop him, "Stop right there, where do you think you're going so late, instead of sleeping at home?"

Mu Hanchen spoke in a hurried tone, "I'm going out to handle something, I'll be right back."

Elder Mu quickly came down the stairs, grabbing Mu Hanchen's wrist with a grim expression, "What's so urgent that you need to go out in the middle of the night? If you don't explain clearly, you can forget about leaving."

"Liang Chuchu attempted suicide, I'm going to check on her."

"What does her suicide have to do with you? You are not allowed to go."

Elder Mu did not like Liang Chuchu. Whether she lived or died was of no concern to him.

He certainly did not want her to disrupt his grandson's night.

"Grandpa, a human life is at stake, I'll explain it to you later." Not wanting to delay any further, Mu Hanchen struggled out of Elder Mu's grasp and tried to leave.

Elder Mu was insistent and would not let him go so easily, "If you must go, then take Fanxing with you."

He then shouted up the stairs, "Fanxing, Fanxing, come down quickly, go see if Liang Chuchu is dead or alive with him. If she's dead, help with the arrangements; if she's not, come right back, don't worry your grandmother."

Xia Fanxing had also changed clothes by then. Even if Elder Mu hadn't said anything, she would still have gone.

She wanted to see for herself whether Liang Chuchu had tried to end her life over some trifle.

She wouldn't stand to be wrongly labeled a "murderer" out of the blue.

When Elder Mu made a demand, there was no room for objection.

So Mu Hanchen could only take Xia Fanxing with him to the hospital.

The two were silent the whole way there.

One did not ask any more questions, the other did not offer any more explanations.

When they were about to arrive at the hospital, Mu Hanchen suddenly spoke up, "When you see Chuchu later, explain the phone call to her properly, don't upset her."

Xia Fanxing felt particularly stifled in her heart, "Why should I explain?"

She hadn't done anything wrong, what was there to explain?

Mu Hanchen's voice was somewhat hoarse as he said, "She has moderate depression, she's sick. Consider it a good deed, just appease her."

Xia Fanxing's lips curled into a cold smile, "What does her depression have to do with me? When I answered the phone earlier, I only said those two sentences, whether you believe it or not."

As they spoke, they arrived at the hospital.

Mu Hanchen parked the car and turned to her with instructions, "Fine, if you don't want to explain then don't. Wait for me in the car, I'll go up and see her."

But Xia Fanxing got out of the car and followed Mu Hanchen, "I'll go with you, otherwise, if this really results in a death, I won't be able to clear my name even if I'm innocent!"
