Edgar made his way through the Walker office building. he made his way into one of the rooms where none other than Eron Walker was seated. On either side of him were Daniel and Adira who were arguing over something. Eron looked up to see his brother. He stopped what he was writing and walked across his desk to welcome the older Walker.
"I was not expecting you," He said as he pulled out a chair.
"Neither did I plan to," Edgar admitted. "But a few people came in to submit their requests to participate in the tournament,"
"More fighters? This year's tournament is about to be quite the event,"
The tournament that was about to take place was intrinsically tied to the history of Minar. When it was first held, it was done as a means of distracting people from the dilemma of the calamity that followed the Moonfall event. It was decided from then to be held every three years. Every year the tournament was to be held, the patriarch of the Walker Family would select a random family member to organise and head the event. This year, Eron was the one who was selected.
"I am sorry about this," Edgar said as he handed over a bunch of documents. "I know father has been putting you through it, even after the Ebon Shroud incident,"
"It is to be expected," Eron sighed as he took the documents. "I have more to prove since I am just his adoptive son,"
"But you are still his nephew, and he has no reason to spite you,"
"Well, it does not feel as though," Eron opened the first document he was handed.
"I hope you don't have to go too thoroughly through these," Edgar said. "I'd rather you used your time for something more important,"
The dark-skinned man raised an eyebrow.
"It is a necessary procedure," He replied. "I cannot have individuals with certain kinds of criminal history for the safety of other participants,"
"...You are right. Forgive my ignorance,"
Eron went through the documents meticulously. There were a few names he was familiar with, some of which he was surprised to see. He was not even aware the Silver Bulwark was in Minar and his participation in the tournament was just as surprising. As he continued through the document, Eron's eyes darkened. He closed the documents and set them aside on his desk.
"I take it you are somewhat familiar with the individuals detailed in this file,"
"Naturally," Edgar smiled.
"Then why would you accept applications from people tied to that group?" Eron asked.
"I don't see how that is a problem. None of them seemed to have any particularly deep connections to them, so I took no issue with it,"
"A 'insignificant' connection is a connection nonetheless,"
"Then you will deny them their right to participate because of the sins of others?" Edgar asked. "What you are truly looking for are murders who kill without remorse so you can prevent their participation and prevent the death of others. None of the people have any criminal indictments. They should be fine to fight, no?"
"Yes," Eron scowled. "They are,"
"Excellent!" The older Walker smiled. "I will see you at home. Have a nice rest of your day,"
Once Edgar was gone Eron fell into his seat. The younger Walker could not help but be suspicious of his brother's insistence to have those people fight, and so many of them at that. There was little could do about it though. Without a certain kind of criminal background, he could not ban their participation, and without participating himself. A light sparked in his eyes as an idea came to mind.
"Daniel, Adira," He called. The two ceased their argument.
"What is it?" The bearded man asked. "You want to spar?"
"Think about something besides fighting for once, man," Daniel said.
"What did you say, you little brat?!"
"Settle down you two," The white-haired man said. "I need you to help me with something. "How do you feel about taking part in the tournament?"
Daniel and Adira's eyes widened with excitement.
"Are you serious?" Daniel asked. "I thought you said we couldn't join because we're close to you?"
"The situation has changed. I need people amongst the participants to watch a few people," He handed Adira the documents Edgar brought. "You can just participate as regular contestants. I just need to watch those people,"
"And the wish?" Adira asked.
"If you are able to win my family is obligated to grant you whatever you desire, should you win,"
"So I get to fight and I get to ask for doom buggy?!" The dark-haired boy exclaimed. "Awesome!"
"What would you wish for?" Eron asked Adira.
"Isn't it obvious? A rematch! You versus me but this time I'll win,"
"Of course you would," He smiled.
A ringtone rang throughout the room, calling the three's attention to Eron's communicator. The Walker pulled out his device to see who was calling. It was none other than Lola. Adira and Daniel began to smile deviously as they cooed at a now-blushing Eron. He quickly walked out of the office and answered the call.
"Hey Eron," Lola greeted. "How are the preparations for the tournament going?"
"Hey Lola," He replied. "It has been going really well so far. With this, everything will go smoothly,"
"That's good to hear. I wish I were able to see it through,"
"I could arrange for you to come over if you'd like,"
"You know I do, but I can't leave Meiden right now. The orphanage needs me more than ever, especially with the math competition the children are preparing for,"
"I know..." Eron sighed. "I really wish father had not picked me to do this. I would be with you in Meiden instead of here,"
"Don't worry about it too much," Lola giggled. "When we're both done, we'll have each other to spend all our time with,"
"Y-yeah," He stuttered with a red face. Lola giggled again.
"Alright then. I'll call you later. Bye,"
"Bye. Later,"
Eron put his communicator into his pocket and tried to calm his beating heart. He was still of the opinion that fighting Adira was an easier task than talking to Lola. Once he was calm, he went back into his office to continue the documentation required for the tournament.
