Crisis?

After wandering outside for a year, he finally found an opportunity to join the strongest third-rate cultivation sect in this small region.

Before undergoing the talent test required by the sect, he had always thought that he would be a genius who was only born once in a thousand years.

But as the saying goes, "Great expectations often lead to great disappointment."

It turned out that Ren Ying, a person who possessed such an unexplainable innate ability, would end up with one of the worst root bones, a fifth-tier root bone.

Root bones were related to how far, and how fast you could progress in the cultivation world. A high-tier root bone would help by being able to reach a higher realm with half the effort and resource, while the low-tier root bone worked in the opposite way. Though different cultivation techniques required different time and resources, root bones still played an important part in one cultivation journey.

Luckily for him, his comprehension talent wasn't as bad as his root bone, a second-rate comprehension talent, that allowed him to bypass the sect rule, which normally would only take in a fourth-tier root bone or higher.

Comprehension talents were related to how fast you could understand something, such as cultivation techniques, cultivation methods, and many sub-occupations, like alchemy, weapon forgery, talisman crafting, and array drawing. This was the reason they accepted this guy in the first place.

After joining the sect, the old Ren Ying planned to use his innate pupil ability to seize other disciples opportunities, rose to the top of this small region, and took revenge against those bandits that massacred his village.

But fate was balanced, despite being blessed with an innate ability, his attribute, after testing, turned out to be an extremely rare one, a thunder type.

Due to its uniqueness, the thunder-type cultivation method and technique hardly existed. Even if they did exist, it was not something that the old Ren Ying could come across right now in this small region.

After 1 year of observing people, he managed to snatch 2 of his fellow opportunities, one being Rainfall Thunder, a cultivation method that could only be cultivated to improve his realm during the rainy time that thunder constantly befallen on earth.

The other one was a movement-type thunder technique called Thunder Trace. A technique that allowed him to move 1 mile per step, leaving behind a trace of thunder behind his path.

At this point in time, he had finally reached rank 1 in the middle realm, boosting his confidence greatly. Along with the fact that he had a little mastery over his movement technique, old Ren Ying decided to go out and snatch people's opportunities.

Unfortunately, during this journey, Ren Ying overestimated himself, which allowed his opponent to sneakily attack him and steal the so-called opportunity.

The visions that supposedly showed him what kind of opportunity awaited the so-called fateful person, weren't some future-telling skills. The visions would get cut off immediately, after the person found them. Not to mention, futures were always changing.

So, just when he was about to snatch away the opportunity, a soul attack released by a demonic cultivator, came flying at him from his blind spot. Somehow, he managed to barely escape back to the sect, by giving up on that opportunity.

Ren Ying ran back to his room, back in the sect, without any gain this time. When he arrived, he immediately went to his bed and fell asleep.

Little did he know that he wouldn't ever wake up again after this time...

...

...

...

Ren Ying could only look helplessly at the old memories of this body. After sorting out everything, he pondered.

Normally, in some novel that he read, the new soul would merge with the old soul that existed in the body before, thus giving the new soul a new identity or convincing them to believe that they're one.

This ended in an expected direction, such as accepting a new mom and dad, a new family relative, and stuff.

It's quite funny to Ren Ying, because those people wouldn't treat you the same if they knew that you possessed their family member, even if you treated them the same as the previous soul or even better.

Would you accept it? For Ren Ying, this was a no-no.

But in his case, he doesn't feel much, like the anger toward the unknown bandits that slaughtered the old Ren Ying village or the one who ambushed him, stealing his treasure.

Perhaps, instead of merging the soul all together, he devoured it. It made sense since the old soul was in a weak state, not to mention, that his physical state was a mess.

It was a common sense that everybody knew, that physical state was related to mental state and spiritual state. So thankfully, his soul devoured the other soul, rather than merging together, preventing countless troubles that could occur because of the unwillingness of the old Ren Ying.

Ren Ying snapped himself out of his thoughts and looked down at his current body.

Open wounds were everywhere, including the old battle scars, before he found himself transmigrating into this world.

Some protagonists would be facing a jade beauty right now, as they asked to cancel the engagement. To think that, instead of having this issue, Ren Ying would face difficulty with his body state.

He thought as his eyes lost its original color, 'How am I supposed to survive in this world with my current body state?'

Ren Ying knew that without enough strength, he could only be a mere pawn that would be discarded after he had no value left, so even if he didn't go out and court death itself, his life would still be at risk.

Only by being strong enough, could he take control of his own life and destiny.

And the only way that, Ren Ying could become stronger was to first heal his body. In order to heal or recover, his body back to its prime state, he would need to consume a healing pill made by an alchemist.

Thinking of healing pills, Ren Ying tried to find those so-called pills, by looking around the house, turning it upside-down, and even in the space ring that he wore on his pointy finger.

Inside his space ring, he could only find 2 manuals that the old Ren Ying practiced: 2 weapons, a one-star sword and a two-star sword, some sort of pill to boost his cultivation, and lastly, the foods he kept for when he traveled outside. The sight of healing pills was nowhere to be found.

He walked to the bed and sat down hopelessly, but Ren Ying suddenly realized that he had the innate ability to perceive people's opportunities.

"So when one door is closed, another one is opened, which is really true after all; I can finally heal this body and start cultivating." He said it while smiling excitedly and looking down at his body.

However, his smile froze upon seeing his body state, and a realization hit him.

"How would I go out and snatch people's treasures with this half-dead body?"

Ren Ying looked up, away from his body, and breathed in deeply.

The reason he didn't think of buying it straight from the contribution store was because he didn't have enough contribution points to exchange for it. The old Ren Ying rarely did any tasks that gave out a lot of contribution points, because he thought that the item that could be exchanged was not really worthy of his attention, he could always go out and snatch something better.

But why doesn't his space ring have a single healing pill?

Thinking of this, Ren Ying started to look into his memories and find out why the space ring contained nothing like the healing pills.

A while later, he finally found out why the old Ren Ying ended up dying.

It was quite amusing to think that the old Ren Ying, due to his special thunder attribute along with his movement technique [Thunder Trace], allowed him to possess an unmatchable speed, surpassing many of his peers, which turned him into an arrogant prick who thought that nobody in the same realm as him could ever touch or injure him.

Included was the fact that, no one had ever managed to touch him since he acquired the [Thunder Trace], which made him think that the healing pills had no use for him.

Ren Ying could only look into those memories with pity; after all, some people who had no mentor had to learn everything by themselves, whether by experiencing it themselves or learning it from other people's experiences.

Regrettably, the old Ren Ying was an arrogant guy, who refused to learn from other people, he chose to learn everything by himself, yet this time the consequences were more than what he could handle, resulting in him dying unjustly without accomplishing his goal and taking revenge just like that.

Another memory that gave Ren Ying hope was of a random disciple opportunity that the old Ren Ying had accidentally taken a peek at. In his memory, he could see that the random disciple had gone out on a mission for contribution points.

Through ups and downs, he luckily obtained a two-star pill mainly used for healing one's body.

This was exactly what Ren Ying's body needed in order to heal back to its prime state; after all, his body was not ordinary when compared to his peers, thanks to him being born with a special pupil that constantly drained and damaged his body.

As for the one-star pill, it would have no effect on him at all due to the strength of his physique.
