Pigment Competition

It was finally the day of departure for Matteo. He had streamlined his luggage to just two suitcases. His siblings accompanied him to the airport. Alessia's eyes welled with tears as she hugged him one last time.

"Take care and do your best. Whatever happens, we'll be proud of you."

"Thank you, sis. Take care of yourself, and you too, Lisa."

"Win," Lisa said, holding up his hand in her fist.

After the final goodbyes, Matteo proceeded to board the airplane. It was a 13 hours journey to Canada, where the competition was hosted.

Matteo stepped off the plane, stretching his tired muscles. The long flight had left him stiff. He felt his body tingle with excitement as he took a deep breath of the Canadian mild oceanic air. He glanced around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings of the airport. Clutching his passport and hoping his nervousness didn't show, he moved towards customs.
