Chapter 116 - His Weakness.

The night sky loomed over Savannah, stars tiny and hard to see against the dark. She slumped against the taxi seat, her body worn out from a week of non-stop work at the hospital. Constantly on her feet, she felt completely drained. The steady drone of the engine and the soft music from the car radio filled the air, but all she could hear was her own heavy breathing.

For two weeks straight days, she dove headfirst into her job. Hospital hallways were always busy—patients kept coming, surgeries never stopped. She lost track of how many hours she spent in the operating room. The worried faces of family members stuck with her. They were all hoping for good news, praying their loved ones would get better.

Blaze did all he could to help her. He brought her food when she forgot to eat, made sure she got some rest, and kept telling her to take care of herself. But he couldn't get her to take a real break.

"Ana, you don't have to do this by yourself." he said, worried. "Let me make arrangements for you. You should take some time off—you've earned it."

She looked at him with tired but determined eyes. "I can't, Blaze. They need me—the families, the patients. I can't just leave them like this."

So she kept going, driven by how much she cared. Now, sitting in the backseat of the taxi, every part of her body hurt, and her mind was screaming for a break. Her eyes closed, trying to catch some sleep, but the bumpy road and the car's vibrations wouldn't let her find even that little bit of peace.

The taxi finally stopped, jolting her awake. Savannah opened her eyes slowly; everything was blurry at first. She saw the big iron gates of the mansion with two guards standing at attention on either side. Relief washed over her when she realized she was finally home.

The driver got out and opened the door for her, but Savannah had trouble moving. Her limbs felt heavy, like they were filled with lead. It took all her strength just to step out. The cold night air hit her hard, sharp and unforgiving.

She looked up at the mansion. The place looked impressive with lights shining warmly from inside. But instead of feeling comforted, she felt overwhelmed by the distance to the front door.

The guards recognized her right away and opened the gates without waiting. She gave them a weak nod, not able to speak. Her steps were slow and wobbly as she walked through the gates into the yard.

Once inside, she stopped, her body unwilling to move further. Her vision swam, and her knees trembled beneath her. Closing her eyes, she swayed slightly, her breathing shallow. She took a deep breath, willing herself to keep going.

"Just a little further." she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Summoning what little strength she had left, Savannah took a shaky step forward. The guards inside watched her with growing concern, their confusion evident as they exchanged glances. She staggered toward the stairs, each step feeling heavier than the last.

The chilly wind bit at her exposed skin, making her shiver uncontrollably. She rubbed her arms, but it was futile-the cold seemed to seep into her very bones. Reaching the base of the stairs, she paused, staring up at the daunting flight ahead.

Her legs felt like jelly, and she knew climbing the stairs was going to be tough. Still, she put one foot on the first step, her body shaking from the effort. She stumbled, losing her balance, but grabbed onto the cold metal railing just in time.

She climbed slowly, one step at a time, each move slow and strained. The wind was howling, and she gritted her teeth against the cold. By the time she made it to the top, she was breathing hard and couldn't see clearly anymore.

She reached for the door, her fingers shaking. But before she could knock or open it, her body gave way. Her knees buckled, and she started falling backward, everything around her going dark.

Thankfully, strong arms caught her just in time, pulling her into a warm hug. The smell of cologne and a panicked voice cut through the fog.

"Ana? Ana!" Blaze's voice was urgent, filled with worry.

She tried to speak, to tell him she was fine, but no words came out. The last thing she felt was the warmth of his chest and the steady thump of his heart before everything went dark.

Just in time, he caught her, pulling her limp body into his arms. Her head lay against his chest, and he could feel her faint, steady pulse. He felt relieved, but worry still creased his face.

Arthur and Elijah behind him stood still, both stunned silent. Saw their boss who had a worried visible. They saw—usually so calm and cool under pressure boss, now showing raw emotions. They had worked with Blaze for years, and he had always been the picture of control, even during the toughest business crises. But now, his love for Savannah was clear in every move he made.

Blaze checked her over, trying to wake her up, but she was out cold. Her pulse was normal, but something wasn't right; she felt hot all over.

Blaze didn't waste a second carrying Savannah into the big house. He walked steadily but tensely, feeling how light she was in his arms even though the seriousness of it all weighed him down. With each step, it felt like time was dragging on, and his urgency grew.

Her head lolled against his chest as he climbed the grand staircase. The only sound was her shallow breathing. His face showed pure worry, his lips pressed tight, and he seemed totally different from his usual calm self.

"Call the doctor. Now!" Blaze said firmly.

"Yeah, boss." Arthur answered right away, pulling out his phone. He headed out, talking on the phone to make everything happen.

Elijah, usually so calm, froze for a second seeing Blaze holding Savannah like she was the most important thing to him. Elijah had never seen this side of their boss before—a guy who had power over lots of people but was now all about one woman.

His head was spinning as he tried to match the man he thought he knew with the one right in front of him. Blaze wasn't just worried; he was deeply, irrevocably in love with Savannah.

Blaze got to Savannah's bedroom and carefully laid her down on the big bed. His mind was a mess with worry, frustration, and this strong feeling to protect her. She felt way too hot, and her usual bright face was pale and clammy. He pushed a strand of hair out of her face, showing how tired and worn out she looked.

Her breathing was shallow, her eyelids fluttering like she was stuck between being awake and super tired. Blaze quickly pulled the thick blanket over her, tucking it tight around her frail body. He walked over to the thermostat and turned it up, making sure no cold air could make things worse.

The usually calm guy gritted his teeth, his worry turning to anger—at himself for not realizing how much she had been pushing herself. He held her hand, squeezing it firmly but gently, silently promising to make sure she never got this bad again.

Blaze sat in a chair next to the bed, holding Savannah's hand tightly as if he could keep her here just by touching her. His mind was spinning with a million thoughts, each one more frantic than the last. He had seen her push herself to the limit for weeks, staying at the hospital and refusing any breaks.

She had always been the one who put others first, the one who cared for everyone but herself, and now she was paying the price.

"You're so stubborn, Ana." he muttered under his breath. "Why do you always have to push yourself to the limit?"

There was a soft knock on the bedroom door, and he got up to open it. It was Arthur, holding an ice pack. Blaze took it and closed the door behind him.

He pressed the ice pack to Savannah's forehead, but it didn't do much to cool down the fever that had her burning up. She looked so weak at that moment, her usual energy totally gone.

Her skin, normally soft and smooth, felt really hot to the touch. He couldn't understand how she had pushed herself so hard without taking a break, how she had let work consume her. Even though she was dedicated, it was clearly taking a toll on her body and mind.

Arthur's words rang in his ears: "Ms. Miller needs rest, Boss. She's been working way too many hours at the hospital."

Blaze had asked her not to overdo it, but she being so stubborn, she told him she'd be fine.

He leaned down and gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead, still holding her hand. "I'm sorry, Ana." he whispered, his voice choked up. "I should've made you take a break. I should've seen how much you were struggling." His throat felt tight, and his chest hurt with guilt.

Savannah's heartbeat was steady but weak, a fragile rhythm that only calmed Blaze for a second. The doctor would be here soon, but he couldn't shake the feeling that it might already be too late. What if Savannah was beyond help?

There was another knock on the door. He got up and went to open it.

Arthur stood in the doorway, looking serious but calm. "The doctor's here, boss." he said softly.

Blaze nodded without looking up, his eyes fixed on the woman he loved. "Let him in." he said, his voice rough.

A moment later, the doctor came into the room. His face was hard to read as he looked around. "Mr. Baldwin," the doctor said, greeting him as he had known Blaze for long, his one of the trusted doctors. He gave a slight nod and glanced at Savannah. "How is she?"

Blaze looked up, his eyes full of worry. "Her fever won't go down. She's really hot, but she's not responding to anything. What's going on with her?"

The doctor walked over to the bed and checked Savannah's pulse and temperature. He frowned as he took it all in. "She's really exhausted and dehydrated. But that's not all." he said. "Her body's in shock. She's been pushing herself too much for too long. Her immune system is weak, so she's more likely to get infections, even small ones that wouldn't usually bother her."

Blaze felt a chill of panic when the doc mentioned infections. "Is she gonna be okay?" he asked, his voice shaking with fear.

The doc didn't answer right away. He checked Savannah's vitals again, his brow all scrunched up. Finally, he turned to Blaze. "She needs immediate care, fluids, and nutrition. I've given her some IV fluids and antibiotics, but she has to take a good rest for a few days. If she doesn't rest, her condition could get worse. She needs proper care now."

Blaze nodded seriously. "Whatever it takes." he said firmly, keeping his voice steady even though he felt like he was about to lose it. "I'll make sure she gets the best care possible."

Blaze loved Savannah with a depth that was undeniable.

The doctor told the staff to set up an IV drip and some medicine. Blaze watched as they got everything ready. When the needle went into Savannah's arm, his heart tightened, but he didn't look away. He just couldn't.

For the next few hours, Blaze stayed right by her side. He wouldn't budge from the room, even though he was getting tired. He couldn't leave her, especially since she was so weak. He didn't think anyone else could look after her like he could.

As the night went on, Blaze sat in the chair next to the bed. He leaned his head against the headboard and kept a close watch on Savannah. He was close to her, looking closely at her. It calmed his worried mind.

Sometimes Savannah would move a little, her eyelids flickering like she was trying to wake up, but she was still too weak to really come around. Blaze would gently run his fingers through her hair and whisper soothing words to her, letting her know she wasn't alone. "I'm here, Ana." he'd murmur, his voice barely a whisper in the dark room. "I'll never leave you."

She let out a tiny breath, and for a second, Blaze thought he felt her fingers twitch in his hand. It wasn't much, but it was something. It showed that she was still fighting, still hanging on.

When the first light of dawn came through the window, Blaze finally let himself close his eyes for a bit. He hadn't slept a blink, but he couldn't relax completely until he knew Savannah was going to be alright. She had always been the strong one, and now it was his turn to be strong for her.

With her hand still clutched tightly in his, Blaze leaned back in the chair and watched over her, silently praying that she would pull through, that she would wake up and be okay. And this time, he would make sure she didn't have to fight alone.
