Chapter 06: Reassigned
Third Person's pov
Feldeon made himself inside a house and walked directly towards the kitchen for some water.
His clothes are smelly with blood and flesh so he removed his coat as he went outside again.
There, Deyal and the another two soldiers were piling up their dead comrades. "Is that all of them?" Feldeon asked and Deyal just cracked his neck and answered, "No. Ben was eaten completely."
The captain sighed, "Dammit. We've lost six soldiers this time."
One of the soldier tries his best not to shed tears infront of the captain. Feldeon noticed it so he deliberately looked away and looked around to spot on to someone. "Now where the hell is that guy now?"
"Who are you talking about, captain?" Deyal asked.
"That wall guard."
"He's there." Deyal pointed to the group of people, walking cautiously back into this blood-covered town.
Francial was with them and is leading the way, and Lowan was beside her two.
Feldeon stood full of curiosity while waiting for them to get near here, so Deyal also stood beside the captain with a serious look at the horseman. "You must be curious about him."
"I am." Feldeon answered, glancing at him. "but I needed to know his name first."
Lowan noticed how the captain and the other soldiers are staring at him so he deliberately jumped down from his horse and faced Feldeon before taking a salute.
"Name." The captain simply asked.
"Lowan Shelwell. South post Wall Guard, sir."
"It's captain. Captain Feldeon." The captain cleared before gesturing at the girl beside Lowan, "she's Lieutenant Francial.
"And that's Lieutenant Deyal." The captain continued as he pointed the man behind him who just nodded at Lowan. "Salvo, and Levan beside him. The other six of us died so you missed meeting them."
"I'm sorry for your loss. Captain."
"Now tell me what exactly happened up there? Where did the monsters came from and how did they even got inside the wall?"
Right then.
As the people started settling and mending to their houses, Lowan explained the whole thing infront of the Feldeon's squad in the most simplest way he could do.
After the story was told.
The captain caressed his chin as he his mind went into a deep thinking. "Where is this Senior Makoto right now?"
"His home was far west. Six kilometers away from the village where those monsters attacked first." Lowan answered, a bit thankful of how lucky that man was. "also. One of the wall guard posted with me from a far post got killed after ringing the alarm."
"Wait. So you're not the one who rang the bell?" Feldeon asked.
Lowan shook his head.
"That means you fought with them alone the whole time as they passed through you?" Deyal looks doubtful but Lowan nods.
"I tried to lessen their numbers as fast as I could."
"Really?" Francial butted in, "how many did you killed so far?"
"Is that important?"
"Just tell her." Feldeon said so Lowan thought for a minute and finally came up with an unsure answer.
"As far as I could recall. It must be more than twenty of them."
"Wow. You're so good." Francial couldn't stop from saying it with a straight look at Lowan.
Feldeon crossed his arm as he and Deyal silently stared at each other.
"Unbelievable." Deyal whispered.
Lowan looked down and heaved a deep sigh. "You're wrong. I'm still not that good. I let them passed my watch and let them kill a whole village as a result. I wished I could have done better in that situation."
Deyal scoffed. "You're telling us that you planned on not letting even one of those monsters get inside the wall in the first place, is that it?"
Lowan raised his gaze to him with a serious look. "I needed to. But still. I failed to protect them."
Deyal sighed and glanced to the captain, "What's wrong with this guy?"
"Wether you protected them or not. It doesn't matter." The captain said.
"No one can control a battlefield alone, especially with this kind of fight," Francial seconded, squatting down infront of his dead friend and gently pushes the open eyelids down before staring over his shoulder towards Lowan, "just be thankful you're alive despite everything that have happened."
Feldeon tapped Lowan's shoulder, "Still a splendid work, soldier. Now I need to go back to our Outpost to state a report for the Commander."
After the incident. And a whole week had passed.
The ruined village was left and no one dared on living there again after what happened.
Lowan on the other hand, decided not to live that village and cleaned the mess himself. Not that he could clean the whole place but he did what he can and continued his job as a wall guard.
The sun was again ready to rise and Lowan was already on his way to the wall for his shift. Several minutes later, he finally arrived at the top of it.
"Senior Makoto." He immediately called to the guy standing on a corner, but he eventually noticed that he's talking to somebody.
It's their Captain from the Wall Guard Squad. So Lowan made a salute for a greetings.
"So you're already here." The captain stated before handing a peace of paper to Lowan, "it's a special notice from Commander Fel of the whole Flederia Army."
Lowan's eyes squinted, opening the paper and reading it silently.
Makoto slid both hands inside his pocket with a gentle smile from his mouth. Waiting for Lowan's reaction about the news their captain just brought.
"Captain, what's the meaning of this?" Lowan asked after he read the notice.
"I know it's shocking, but orders are orders. You have been reassigned as the new recruit for Ival's squad. Captain Ival is from the Northern wall Outpost. Compared here. The north side of the wall is the most dangerous side of Flederia since it has the most damaged part of the wall. But thanks to Captain Ival. No entry of monsters could surpassed them for three years since Ival was assigned to that Outpost."
Makoto tapped both of Lowan's shoulder, "Looks like you're leaving this side after all. I knew this would eventually happen but I did not expect it to be this soon."
Lowan couldn't utter a single word from this news. He must not give out a sign of happiness. Deep down, he is excited.
"You'll leave now. Ival's squad is waiting for you."
Lowan saluted. "Yes, captain."
"Off you go. Officer Lowan Shelwell. The new Northern Wall Guard of the city of Flederia."
