Chapter 3: High Speed Car Chase

"Slow down Re!! Are you trying to kill us?" Maya yelled holding on to the van. "Relax May. This is probably the most fun thing you've done all week." I replied as the van swerved and swayed across the bumpy road.

"Take a left turn he..." Luca began but was cut off by the swift turn of the van. "Okay, now take a right turnnn." Luca said again but was cut off... Again. 'Uggh' Luca groaned holding his tummy. "I think I'm gonna puke." He said clasping his other hand over his mouth.

"You lady, you drive like a maniac. I knew they should have never assigned us this mission."

"Oh would you quit being such a wuss." I clapped back.

"Hold on people. We're making our way on to main street." I announced making a right turn as the van thudded into the the road. "After them! I swear all of you are dead if these kids manage to escape with that flash." The 'mean man with lack of threatening expertise' commanded his crew.

"Omg! I'm so excited, my first real life high speed car chase." I squealed but my excitement dwindled a little when Matthew began talking. "You know the drill Andrea, this is completely different from driving in the woods. There are actual people here so drive carefully and don't hit anyone. You can't risk crashing." Matthew warned.

"Aww so you care?" I swooned sarcastically. "Don't flatter yourself, I only care because I'm in here with you." "Puh-lease would you relax. When have I ever put anyone's life risk?" I countered. "You know what? Don't answer that question!" I said turning back at him.

"Focus on the road Andrea!!" Luca yelled and I looked forward, quickly steering the van to another lane in order to prevent us from crashing into the car ahead of us.

The road was immediately sent into a frenzy with the loud, blaring honks of cars.

"Who taught you how to drive lady? Get off the road!!" The man driving the car I almost hit , yelled at me screaming a bunch of questionable words.

"Who taught you how to drive? Get some manners dude." I yelled back.

'Bang' a bullet whizzed through the air and broke through my door glass. I quickly reclined my seat, as the bullet flew over me and out through the window. "Oh my gosh, they... they just tried to kill me." I mummered to myself and looked out the window to see a man on a motorcycle dangerously swerving through traffic, giving me death glares.

As annoying as it is, Matthew's right. This isn't like our regular missions where we had to stop shoplifters and inexperienced robbers. This is a life or death situation. I couldn't keep acting recklessly and putting my team in danger, I had to be like Luca- I had to be serious and calculative.

I locked in my seatbelt and properly positioned my stun gun on the left side of my spy suit, observing my environment. There was heavy traffic on the road and they were only able to get to us because they were able to maneuver their way on their bikes.

We'd only be able to get away from them if we went under instead of on the highway. Right now the traffic light is on red and everyone is moving slowly, trying to get infront of each other. If we stayed here for even a few minutes longer, it'd be long enough for us to get captured, tortured and killed.

I had to do think of something and quick. 'How am I going to be able to clear the hold up quick enough?'

"Okay team, the gang is closing in on us and there's currently no where to go. We can't shoot out here in the open or risk getting exposed so here's what we're going to do." I started debriefing.

"Luca, I need you here at the front for directions. Matthew, I need you to use your computer to hack into the traffic control system and make the traffic lights green. Maya, you need too..."

"Don't worry about me, I know what I'm going to do. I'm going to make this idiots pay for trying to shoot a bullet through my best friend's head." Maya cut me off, reloading her gun.

"Well okayyy, I guess you're going to do that and I'm gonna get us out of here. Safely." I added winking at Matthew and he chuckled a little and smiled at me. "Okay team, let's go." I yelled.

Maya crawled to the passenger seat of the van and swing out of the window and on to the top. "Why didn't you just follow the back door?" Luca who was sitting in the passenger seat asked visibly annoyed. "Because I can't risk exposing us an open fire, duh." Maya replied not caring to look back at him.

"Okay the traffic lights go green in 5 seconds and when it does, sound the alarm. In 3.." Matthew counted down and I locked in.

"... 2" I revved the van.

"...1" I slammed on the accelerator and pushed the button that turned on the fake ambulance sirens.

And we sped off on the cleared out road for the 'ambulance'. I drove exactly as I planned, going under and following Luca's instructions.

And just as expected, the men were very close to us and followed us with the intention of surrounding us.

"Turn left, turn right, take another right turn here. Luca called out directions and I swerved past the cars following the zigzag direction patterns.

"Guy coming at you from the left Re." Maya shouted.

"Hey it's the guy who tried to shoot me." I said pulling out my stun gun but just as I was about to shoot, he was suddenly hit by something and knocked off the road.

"Maya!!!"

"What? I told you he was going to pay. " I shook my head, smiling myself.

"Shit." Luca suddenly said "What's wrong?" I asked. "You're supposed to take a turn here but the road's blocked." "Well you know what they say 'where we're going, we don't need roads." I said and drove the van off the road and down through a ditch.

"Damn it. I can't believe they're still following us." Matthew said frustrated. "Oh c'mmon really? Okay guys, I can't drive us out of this. So new plan, here's what we're going to do. We need to ditch our disguises and crash this van. Then we jump out towards the left side and escape from the woods. Everybody good with that? Great?" I said.

"Wait what?!" Matthew, Luca and Maya asked simultaneously

"Get ready!!" I yelled going back to driving recklessly, increasing my speed. "Are these kids crazy? They're going to kill themselves." The path became darker and darker as I drove further in which was a good thing considering they won't be able to see us jump out. "In five, four, three, two, one. Everybody get out!!" I yelled and kicked open the car door and jumped out. I landed hard on the ground rolling on the floor.

I moved back as the van lit up in flames. "Everybody okay?" I asked pushing myself off the damp grass. "Yup I'm alright. " Luca said with a groan. "I'm fine." Matthew said coming out from behind me. "Wait, where's Maya? Maya? Maya!" I panicked, tears threatening to flow from my eyes.

'Oh no! What if I had just killed my best friend?' "Maya? Maya? Where are you Maya?" I screamed choking on my tears. "Ugh. Would you stop screaming, you're gonna make my headache worse. I'm fine okay? I'm here and I'm alright. " Maya said pushing a tire off her and standing up.

"Oh my God Maya." I gasped and ran to her, enveloping her in a warm hug. "Oh my God, Maya you're bleeding." I said examining her. "Relax, I'm fine, it's just a little blood now let's get outta here before we get seen."
