Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Delegating

Mr. Darren led the eight of us to the meeting room. That was where my uncle and other team supervisors delegated their teams and came up with strategies on how to pull off missions.

Normally, I'd have been a bit nervous about meeting my uncle after my near fail and our less than perfect execution of the mission but I was still fuming from my heated exchange with Tiffany to bother.

She was just so infuriating.

She had been here for less than an hour and was already making trouble.

I had only met her for at least, a bare minimum of five minutes and she'dalready managed to get under my skin.

We all sat down at the long rectangular table that covered at least eight foot and waited for my uncle to arrive. Which he did after about thirty minutes of waiting.

"Sorry I'm late darlings, analysing the information Andrea and her team had managed to retrieve took longer than expected." He said in a cheery, bubbly voice as he entered the room, that made me wonder what he could possibly be so happy about.

As custom, we began to rise to greet him but he quickly interjected, now standing in front of us. "No time for greeting kids. Andrea, I need your full report on the Weller mission."

Everyone turned to me as if they were expecting something from me. I could feel my cheeks reddened. "You mean now? Like now now or later now?" I asked. "I need it now Andrea." Uncle replied.

"Umm... okay." I said nervously as I rose up from my seat, the nerves finally kicking in. " I... I'd like to think we completed the mission successfully. We retrieved what was required and all returned safely and in one piece. On another note... the assigned vehicle blew up and we have one casualty."

I didn't dare mention that we were almost exposed and captured.

"It sounds like you were being reckless again Andrea. What do I always tell you? You have go think before you act. The money to pay for these vehicles doesn't grow on trees and you even managed to get your friend hurt." Mh uncle scolded.

Tiffany snickered and whispered something to the girl sitting next to her.

I knew from her expression that she was definitely going to make fun of me for this later. She would have probably done it since if not for the fact that there was an authority figure in the room.

The thought of someone mocking me for my mistakes made my blood boil and my uncle's scolding was defined not helping the situation.

If anything it was adding more to my guilt.

"I know but Maya getting hurt wasn't my fault it was complete by accident." I defended myself.

"That's true but as a hunan being with a working brain and the leader of your team and the mission, you could have easily prevented it. Andrea, I made you team leader because I thought you could learn a thing of two about responsibility and your actions have consequences.

I thought that with how uniquely bright and skilled you are, you would definitely succeed but you haven't done a good job proving me right. If more 'accidents' like this keep happening I would have no other choice but to replace you. Understood?"

"Yes sir." I replied quietly proceeding to take my seat.

I felt embrassment, guilt and like I had let down everyone.

I wish I had never tried to defend my self. That didn't help my case at all.

It only added to the list of things Matthew was probably going to make fun of me about later.

"Now back to work kids. We de-encrepted an analyzed the data Andrea and her team managed to get from Wayne Corps secret base and got out next clue." Uncle said pressing the button on the table that turned on the screen behind him.

"As you all know, Wayne Corps is the largest automobile company here in Arizona but they also have a deep involvement with the criminal underlords, wolves." He said using the screen to further explain what he was saying using pictures.

"Wayne Corps sponsors the wolves and in return they get the valuable technology the wolves get from their raids. But it seems this case goes deeper than it's made out to be, when we tried opening the other files, a virus got leaked into our system and it crashed.

Wayne Corps is definitely hidding something and your job is to find out what that is? You need to find more information to prove wolves connection to Wayne Corps."

"You need us to get past their security and infiltrate their base of operation." Skylar exclaimed with utmost certainty.

"Yes. I thought that was very clear young man." Uncle bluntly stated.

"But Sir, how are we going to infiltrate such a powerful company. If they are truly involved with criminals, their security will be top notch; it will take years for us to even gain the trust of the boss much less get the information we need." Tiffany pointed out.

Which is definitely the smartest thing she's said today.

"You, what's your name?"

"Tiffany, sir."

"Well, Tiffany that's an excellent point but it's not something to worry about. Mr. Wayne has a son named Cadel and Cadel actually went to school with you kids. He was in your grade Andrea. You should remember him Andrea because it seems he was strongly attracted to you back in highschool. I'm sure he would love a blast from the past from his unrequited love. Don't you think so Andrea?"

"That's a great idea boss."

I said eagerly in an attempt to please him.

"It's a good thing you agree Andrea, otherwise you wouldn't have made this mission." Uncle said without the slightest bit of warmth. I guess he's still mad, I almost messed up the mission.

"Wait, you really mean that? I can lead the next mission?" I asked excitedly.

"No you can't. Where did you even get that crazy idea? You really think I'd let you led this mission after you messed up the last one? Ofcourse not Andrea, Tiffany will be leading the mission this time. She seems like a very smart girl."

"Really? Thanks boss. I promise I won't let you down."

Tiffany said with the biggest smirk ever.

A simple no would have sufficed but instead uncle had to humiliate me infront of everyone and give Tiffany my spot!?"

I was fuming with rage.

"You better not, we can't afford another close call. You can choose whoever you want to come with you but Andrea is crucial to this mission so she has to come." Uncle replied.

"Ok sir." Tiffany replied, still grinning like the idiot she is.

"Before I was rudely interrupted, in order to infiltrate Wayne Corps you'll need new identities and as luck would have it, Mr. Wayne's kid is looking for a new bodyguard since his last one mysteriously went missing. Andrea you're going to be that bodyguard. Cadel is holding interviews on Saturday so you need to be prepared.

However we do need Cadel to remember you do everyone but you will be given new identities. The rest of you will be given your roles after you've been chosen."

Uncle discussed the mission further, giving us more information about the Wayne Corps before finally dismissing us.

That was the worst experience I had ever had with my uncle ever and I have a really bad premonition that things are about to get worse.
